Abstract

Jenseits gesellschaftstheoretischer, essentialistischer oder naturwissenschaftlicher Deutungen soll der folgende Beitrag die kulturgeschichtlichen Hintergründe unserer heutigen Zugänge zur Homosexualität zu Verständnis bringen. Dabei zeigt sich gerade der Zusammenhang von Homosexualität und Krankheit als Schlüssel zu wesentlichen epochalen Übergängen der Neuzeit, durch welchen nicht lediglich Homosexualität, sondern ebenso die wissenschaftliche und professionalisierte Medizin als sinngenetische Entwürfe deutlich werden. Der Zusammenhang von Homosexualität und Krankheit zeichnet sich derart ab als unabgeschlossener und wechselseitiger Prozess der Aufklärung zweier teils gegenläufiger Emanzipationsbewegungen angesichts der Diskriminierungsinstanzen Kirche und Strafrecht.Beyond the opportunities of social theories, natural sciences, structural determinations or essential interpretations this essay is to establish understanding of the backgrounds and conditions of our contemporary perspectives of homosexuality by a historico-cultural way. Thereby it is especially the correlation of homosexuality and disease, which has to be considered as a key to crucial transitions of modern age and which illuminates not only homosexuality but also academified, scientized and professionalized medicine as transitory concepts of common sense. The correlation of homosexuality and disease is in such a way an open and mutual process of enlightenment of two partly counterrotating movements of emancipation in the face of the discriminating authorities: church and penal law
