  1. Ambassadors of the game: do famous athletes have special obligations to act virtuously?Christopher C. Yorke & Alfred Archer - 2020 - Journal of the Philosophy of Sport 47 (2):301-317.
Do famous athletes have special obligations to act virtuously? A number of philosophers have investigated this question by examining whether famous athletes are subject to special role model obligations (Wellman 2003; Feezel 2005; Spurgin 2012). In this paper we will take a different approach and give a positive response to this question by arguing for the position that sport and gaming celebrities are ‘ambassadors of the game’: moral agents whose vocations as rule-followers have unique implications for their non-lusory lives. According (...)

Creating a Multidisciplinary Bioethics Ambassador Program at a Comprehensive Cancer Center.Amy E. Scharf, Liz Blackler, Konstantina Matsoukas, Monique C. James, Amy Thomas & Louis P. Voigt - forthcoming - Cambridge Quarterly of Healthcare Ethics:1-11.
The Ethics Committee at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) developed a Bioethics Ambassador Program (BAP); a yearlong educational program to assist clinical and non-clinical staff develop the skills to identify and address common burgeoning ethical issues that can arise during the provision of care to patients with cancer. The goal was to provide greater awareness of the role and services of Ethics, particularly at the institution’s geographically-diverse outpatient care centers and to better-instill a culture of preventative ethics. The Ethics Ambassador Program: A Grassroots Approach.Kristin Furfari - 2020 - Journal of Clinical Ethics 31 (3):252-258.
The Ethics Ambassador program at the University of Colorado Hospital was born from a desire to encourage earlier ethics consultation, with the goal of providing timely, effective, and patient-centered ethics support. The selected Ethics Ambassadors are individuals from multiple roles across the hospital who receive regular education to serve as an ethics resource for their respective units or specialties. As embedded individuals, they are better able to recognize the unique needs and challenges of their units and provide relevant ethics (...)

Creating Ambassadors of Planet Earth: The Overview Effect in K12 Education.H. Anna T. van Limpt - Broers, Marie Postma & Max M. Louwerse - 2020 - Frontiers in Psychology 11:540996.
The Overview Effect is the commonly reported experience of astronauts viewing planet Earth from space, and the subsequent reflection on, and processing of this experience. The Overview Effect is associated with feelings of awe, self-transcendence, and a change of perspective and identity that manifest themselves in taking steps towards protecting the fragile ecosystem. In the current study, we investigated whether the Overview Effect can be obtained in school children when simulated using virtual reality and whether the effect has a positive (...)

From Old World Syndrome to History: Understanding the Past in Askold Melnyczuk’s Ambassador of the Dead.Olha Poliukhovych & Heather Fielding - 2019 - Kyiv-Mohyla Humanities Journal 6:91-113.
Askold Melnyczuk’s novel Ambassador of the Dead narrates the process through which a second-generation, assimilated American learns to comprehend the Ukrainian historical experience of his family and their generation. This article argues that the novel is centrally concerned with Nick’s learning process: as he begins to better understand his parents’ generation, he transforms his own identity. As a child, Nick is unable to see Ada — his friend’s mother, who is haunted by traumatic experiences — as anything other than (...)

    Knowing Holbein’s Objects: An Object-Oriented-Ontology Analysis of The Ambassadors.Zoran Poposki - 2024 - Open Philosophy 7 (1).
This article investigates the tenet of Object-Oriented Ontology (OOO) that art, like philosophy, is a form of cognition different from literal knowledge by applying key OOO concepts to the analysis of the Renaissance painting The Ambassadors (1533), a double portrait by Hans Holbein the Younger (1497/98–1543). The Ambassadors is found to exemplify the key principles of OOO in its treatment of objects and their relationships. Through an OOO lens, the painting becomes not merely a literal representation of the subjects and (...)

    From Iliadic Integrity to Post-Machiavellian Spoils: James's The Ambassadors.James Duban & Jeffrey M. Duban - 2023 - Philosophy and Literature 47 (1):1-23.
Abstract:This study links Homeric and Machiavellian outlooks in Henry James's The Ambassadors. We first relate Lambert Strether's embassy seeking Chad's return to Woollett to what Alexander Pope famously designated the "Embassy to Achilles," i.e., the Achaean effort to induce Achilles's return to battle. Achilles impassionedly rejects the embassy's hypocrisy; he will not be bought. We then find Chad Newsome conspiratorially excluding Strether from the family fortune via intended marriage to Mrs. Newsome. Contrary to Achilles's forthrightness and integrity, Chad and his (...)

Frontline Employees as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Ambassadors: A Quasi-Field Experiment.Laura Marie Edinger-Schons, Lars Lengler-Graiff, Sabrina Scheidler & Jan Wieseke - 2019 - Journal of Business Ethics 157 (2):359-373.
As past research has identified frontline employees as the primary communicators of a company’s CSR, this paper reports on a large-scale quasi-field experiment aimed at gaining a deeper understanding of the levers of successful in-store, point-of-sale, CSR communication. In cooperation with a large international retailer, the authors analyzed the effects of varying in-store CSR communication strategies in 48 unique stores, combining data from a customer survey, company records of customers’ real visits and purchases, and interviews with store managers. Taking into (...)

Diplomatic personae: Torquato Tasso on the ambassador.Michele Chiaruzzi - 2022 - History of European Ideas 48 (5):481-498.
ABSTRACT This article examines Torquato Tasso’s Il Messaggiero [The Messenger], by focusing on the political subject matter, as discussed in the final part of the text through an imaginary dialogue, that is, the figure of the ambassador, the framework of his office and its relationship with power. Tasso’s dialogue features the nature of the ambassador as a figure incarnating his own ‘self’, while simultaneously representing his prince and acting on his own behalf within a specific political context, an (...)

Life satisfaction is a research hotspot in positive psychology in recent years. This study uses overseas students as subjects and attempts to examine the effect of place attachment and student life satisfaction on Mainland Chinese students’ word-of-mouth recommendations and their Ambassador Behavioral intention. A survey was systematically conducted in six institutions in Macao. The results of 312 valid data indicate that place dependence has a positive influence on place identity; place identity and place dependence have a positive influence on (...)

Tacitus for the instruction of ambassadors: Vera’s Enbaxador(1620).María Concepción Gutiérrez Redondo - 2025 - History of European Ideas 51 (1):27-42.
Juan de Vera’s El Enbaxador (1620) was one of the main treatises on the role of the ambassador in Early Modern Europe and the first one published in Spanish. At the time, Spain was no exception to the influence of Tacitus as a significant ancient author to inspire the political practice of the age. Juan de Vera, a nobleman and writer, soon an ambassador and entitled count, incorporated his own reading of Tacitus into El Enbaxador. Justus Lipsius, the (...)

Reading the quran: The lessons of the ambassadors of mystical Islam.Patrick Laude - 2007 - Sophia 46 (2):147-162.
This paper highlights the contributions of three major Islamicists, Louis Massignon, Henry Corbin, and Frithjof Schuon, to the understanding of the Qur’ân. Their works point to the epistemologic primacy of the contemplative and esoteric dimensions of the Book. Its linguistic texture and modalities are here understood as expressing the very limits of language, the proportional reciprocity between the actualization of inner meaning and spiritual fruition, and its ultimate metaphysical substance. These principles and their spiritual consequences may constitute the best antidote (...)
