ObjectivePost-traumatic stress disorder may affect individuals exposed to adversity. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is an evidence-based trauma-focused psychotherapy for PTSD. There is still some debate whether the eye movements are an effective component of EMDR. The primary aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of Eye Movement Desensitization treatment in reducing PTSD symptoms compared to a retrieval-only active control condition. We also investigated whether PTSD symptom reduction was associated with reductions in depression and anxiety, and improvements in (...) quality of life.MethodologyAdult PTSD patients were recruited at public psychological services in Jakarta, Bandung and Cimahi, Indonesia. PTSD was diagnosed with the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 disorders. Participants were randomized into: EMD or retrieval-only. EMD consisted of clinical history and treatment planning, preparation, assessment, EMs, closure, whereas retrieval-only consisted of the same elements except EMs. Data were collected at baseline, 1-week post-treatment, 1-month follow-up, and 3-months follow-up. Outcome measures included the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5, Hopkins Symptoms Checklist-25, and the World Health Organization Quality of Life–BREF. Data were analyzed with linear mixed model analysis in R Statistics.ResultsAlthough there were main effects of time indicating reductions for both EMD and retrieval-only in PCL-5 and HSCL-25 scores, and improvements in WHOQoL-BREF scores at T1, T2, and T3, no significant differences in PCL-5, HSCL-25, and WHOQoL-BREF total scores between the EMD and retrieval-only groups at T1, T2, and T3 were found.ConclusionWithin a clinical sample of PTSD patients in Indonesia, both EMD and retrieval-only was associated with reductions in symptoms of PTSD, anxiety and depression, and improvements in quality of life, although EMs did not add to the efficacy of the treatments. Postoperative complications of extracting impacted third molar teeth often include pain, trismus, and facial swelling. Recent studies have explored the application of dexamethasone to lessen this inflammation following surgery. We used a systematic review and meta-analysis in this investigation to assess the efficacy of dexamethasone. in reducing postoperative complications. Article searches were conducted using PRISMA guidelines in four electronic databases: Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, and Google Scholar. The keywords were selected according to the data search strategy. The PICO framework (...) (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome) was used to organize this systematic review and using SIGN (Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network) bias assessment. The study used a visual analog scale to assess postoperative pain. The dose of dexamethasone used varied between 8 mg, 1 ml intravenously and 0.3 mg/kg. The results showed variations in the duration of analgesic use and the number of analgesic tablets required. Overall, the use of dexamethasone after third molar surgery was shown to reduce edema and trismus. However, the response to pain reduction was variable. This study concludes that intramuscular, pterygomandibular injection, sublingual, and submucosal administration of dexamethasone can produce better therapeutic effects than conventional postoperative care for extraction of impacted third molar teeth. In particular, During the healing phase swelling, trismus and edema are significantly reduced. (shrink)

Considerable demand for academic research and publications is not a new subject of discussion in the academic field. In Indonesia, there is increasing challenge and pressure to conduct scientific publications, making it a very competitive field for academics, particularly for lecturers and postgraduate students. The present study examines Indonesian scholars’ perceptions of academic publishing as a demand from institutions and the government, as well as their understanding of academic misconduct. We conducted a survey with open-ended questions to 55 scholars. The (...) results suggest that Indonesian scholars are knowledgeable about academic publishing and believe that this obligation is inevitable and beneficial for them. To what extent academic misconduct in publications falls under their understanding, though, is still unclear. When presented with information on academic misconduct, in particular using unethical publication services, they show an ambiguous and inconsistent manner, as if the misconduct is understandable. Interestingly, they also reveal other ethically dubious behaviors that appear to be common among Indonesian scholars. The findings indicate that the issue of academic misconduct is still addressed ambiguously by using publication demands as a scapegoat to justify certain unethical publication practices. (shrink)

The article is combined of six chapters authored by these who voiced their experiences with social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemics in various contexts, but mostly centered on psychological, sociological, and ethical aspects. Authors, mostly psychologists and philosophers, were invited to describe their perspectives on the sense and practice of social distancing in times of pandemics. Their reflections seek to demonstrate various perspectives related to subjects’ novel self-experience, social situatedness, and their dealing with conventions and habits altered through the pandemics. This research explores the adaptation strategies employed by Betawi traditional art performers in Jakarta amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the transition to the "New Normal Era." Through direct observations, comprehensive literature reviews, and structured questionnaires disseminated to 211 Betawi traditional art performers, this study investigates how performers have adjusted their practices to adhere to health protocols while continuing to preserve and promote ASEAN's intangible cultural heritage. Statistical analysis, including Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), was employed to assess (...) the relationship between performers' adaptability and various latent variables such as conformity, innovation, ritualism, retreatism, rebellion, authority (AUT), education (EDU), tools (TOOL), health protocols (HEAP), social media (SOCMED), and suitability of performance (SP). The results indicate that Betawi traditional art performers have demonstrated resilience and flexibility by leveraging digital platforms, embracing innovation, and diversifying their income sources. These adaptive strategies not only contribute to the preservation of intangible cultural heritage but also align with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). Furthermore, the study underscores the broader implications of Betawi performers' adaptability for ASEAN countries, highlighting the promotion of cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue, and economic prosperity within the region. Overall, the findings emphasize the importance of supporting and sustaining traditional art forms in the face of evolving societal challenges, ultimately enriching the cultural landscape and fostering regional solidarity within ASEAN. This article aims to analyze the relationship between intellectual capital and innovation through market orientation in the Indonesian film Industry as a creative economy in the new economic age based on information intensification and creativity with superior ideas, knowledge and competencies of human resources. To collect data, a questionnaire was used. Out of 65 populations of film companies, by random sampling, 56 were selected as representative samples. The Partial Least Square Structural Path-Modeling (PLS-PM) was used to test the hypotheses. The (...) research outcomes revealed that intellectual capital, market orientation, and innovation are fairly high. Intellectual capital has a positive effect on market orientation and innovation. Market orientation mediates the effect of intellectual capital on innovation. Intellectual capital may directly affect the innovation of the Indonesian film industry and through market orientation. Human capital, structural capital, and customer capital must be strengthened to support customer orientation, competitor orientation, and internal integration of the company, so that innovations in products, processes, and strategies can be increased. This study implies that the innovation will develop more with the pertinent intellectual capital and suitable market orientation. (shrink)

A growing body of evidence suggests that two distinct forms of group alignment are possible: identification and fusion (the former asserts that group and personal identity are distinct, while the latter asserts group and personal identities are functionally equivalent and mutually reinforcing). Among highly fused individuals, group identity taps directly into personal agency and so any attack on the group is perceived as a personal attack and motivates a willingness to fight and possibly even die as a defensive response. As (...) such, identity fusion is relevant in explaining violent extremism, including suicidal terrorist attacks. Identity fusion is theorized to arise as a result from the sharing of personally transformative experiences with other group members, however evidence for this relationship remains limited to date. Here, we present a pre-registered study in which we examine the role of transformativeness and perceived sharedness of group-defining events in generating identity fusion. We find that both of these factors are predictive of identity fusion but that the relationship with transformativeness was more consistent than perceived sharedness across analyses in a sample of Indonesian Muslims. Purpose: It has been argued in literature that culture has significant influence on the education implementation. While it is undeniable that education quality is the most important in the education implementation, many attempt to ensure quality assurance at all levels of education. Hence this Study investigates the culture approach in Quality assurance in Elementary School. Design: A Qualitative approach was applied in this study. Using explorative research with a naturalistic phenomenon exposure in Elementary school in Bangkalan city, Madura Island, East (...) Java Province, Indonesia. Data collection using in depth interview while data analysis using descriptive with deductive methods. Findings: Teachers showed a strategic approach with an integrated culture in quality assurance as the students’ good grade is the focus of the teaching. Support system in developing a more cultural, independent, self-reliant approach in teaching to achieve good quality in education is needed. Teachers perceive themselves doing well in their job, however teachers need close guidance and support when undertaking quality assurance assessment. (shrink)
