This issue of the journal "Ukrainian Religious Studies" is based on the honor of the Ternopil, a young scientist-religious scholar in Ukraine and beyond Natalia Gavrilova. This person is dear to my heart, the years of my scientific and private communication are connected with it. Her loss to me can not be filled by anyone and can hardly be expected.

The issue of inter-denominational understanding has been relevant to Ukrainians for many centuries. During the discussions the idea of ​​proclaiming the Ukrainian patriarchate was crystallized. According to the clergy, this would resolve the existing inter-denominational contradictions. However, the problem has become more political than religious. The emergence of such a powerful structure in Ukraine was opposed by the Polish authorities and the Polish-Latin clergy, as well as by the Russian government and its Orthodox Church. For Catholic Poland and Orthodox Moscow, (...) the establishment of an independent church in Ukraine was associated with state formation and signified a sharpening of the Ukrainian issue. The need for the spiritual revival of the Ukrainian nation does not lose its relevance due to the complex and painful process of becoming an independent Ukraine. For centuries, spiritual filling of personality has been under the influence of religious factors, as religion and the church have occupied a significant place and left their informative footprint in many areas of human existence. They determined the directions of spiritual development of society, affirmed social values ​​and priorities, influenced the socio-political, economic and (...) cultural relations. Joining the discussion of the participation of church institutions in the secular education system, it should be noted that the spiritual health of the nation today is formed not only under the influence of denominational factors. The article describes the course of the Soviet-Vatican negotiations, analyzes from the point of view of the differences of value orientations of its subjects.

The desire to overcome the split of Christianity in 1054, which laid the foundations for the formation of two religious systems - proclamation and Catholicism, initiated the signing of the Lyons, the Ferraro-Florentine and Berestea Unions, which created a special model of the Church. Subsequently, such Churches felt the pressure of Romanization, which further strengthened the Orthodox persuasion of the desire of the Apostolic See to subordinate the Orthodox Church. The mutual alienation between the Catholics and the Orthodox was deepened (...) in the eighteenth century, when the Congregation for the Spread of Faith by the special decree in 1729 banned "communication in sacris". The doubts of the Catholics in the grace of the Orthodox churches had a reciprocal reaction from the patriarchs of Constantinople, Alexandria and Jerusalem, who in 1755 issued a joint statement calling them heretics all who were outside the Orthodox Church.
