  8. Taking Parenting Public: The Case for a New Social Movement.Enola G. Aird, Allan C. Carlson, David Elkind, William A. Galston, S. Jody Heymann, Wade F. Horn, Bernice Kanner, Juliet B. Schor, Raymond Seidelman, Theda Skocpol, Ruy Teixeira, Cornel West, Peter Winn, Edward Wolff & Ruth A. Wooden - 2002 - Rowman & Littlefield Publishers.
Taking Parenting Public makes a compelling case that parenting has become dangerously undervalued in America today. It calls for a new investment—both personal and public—into the work of raising children and argues that we are all "stockholders" in the next generation. With a foreword by Sylvia Ann Hewlett and Cornel West, Taking Parenting Public crosses boundaries to bring together thinkers from diverse fields spanning the political spectrum. It features contributions from distinguished experts in economics, political science, public policy, child development, (...)

Art of Philosophy: A Selection of Jerzy Perzanowski's Works.Jerzy Perzanowski - 2012 - De Gruyter.
Jerzy Perzanowski s ideas were based on an original blend of logic and ontology in what he called onto/logic, where the slash is meant to suggest a quotient of ontology by logic. Perzanowski began as a logician, his early works being on modal logic, then gradually shifted his interest to logical philosophy, meaning not so much philosophy of logic as philosophy informed by logic. Perzanowski was a rare breed of analytical philosopher who thought that a philosophical theory of everything (...)

The possibility of a more realistic interpretation of quantum mechanics.Jerzy Rayski - 1973 - Foundations of Physics 3 (1):89-100.
The old-fashioned concept of state is shown to be inadequate and misleading. Replacing it by a concept of information and taking advantage of the invariance of the mechanical description under time reversal puts the problems of the interpretation of quantum mechanics in a new light. A more realistic interpretation appears to be possible. Moreover, a new explanation of the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen paradox is presented, too.

Chciałem Go pożegnać. Kilkakrotnie próbowałem napisać choć parę słów. O Nim samym.

Errant letters: Jacques Rancière and the philosophy of literature.Jerzy Franczak - 2023 - New York: Peter Lang.
Jerzy Franczak comprehensively presents Jacques Rancière's thought by emphasizing the relations between politics and literature. The detailed analysis considers the context of modern aesthetics and political philosophy, which is why the book introduces further protagonists, such as Louis Althusser, Michel Foucault, Pierre Bourdieu, or Jean-François Lyotard. Franczak first reconstructs Rancière's original philosophy of literature so as to then immediately apply it in readings of select world literature masterpieces by Gustav Flaubert, Max Jacob, Bertold Brecht, Vladimir Nabokov, and Philip Roth.

Logical comparability and conceptual disparity between Newtonian and relativistic mechanics.Jerzy Giedymin - 1973 - British Journal for the Philosophy of Science 24 (3):270-276.
The present note is intended to draw the reader's attention to the analysis of the relation between Newtonian Mechanics and Special Relativity Mechanics (henceforth to be referred to as NM and SRM), given by Philipp Frank, one of the classics of Logical Empiricism (in Frank [1938]). Frank's analysis of the relation between NM and SRM is interesting in many ways. Firstly, it shows clearly that problems of disruptive changes and of conceptual disparity were known to and discussed by Logical Empiricists (...)

    Theory of rejected propositions. I.Jerzy Słupecki, Grzegorz Bryll & Urszula Wybraniec-Skardowska - 1971 - Studia Logica 29 (1):75 - 123.
The idea of rejection of some sentences on the basis of others comes from Aristotle, as Jan Łukasiewicz states in his studies on Aristotle's syllogistic [1939, 1951], concerning rejection of the false syllogistic form and those on certain calculus of propositions. Short historical remarks on the origin and development of the notion of a rejected sentence, introduced into logic by Jan Łukasiewicz, are contained in the Introduction of this paper. This paper is to a considerable extent a summary of papers (...)

Introduction: Perspectives on Cold War Science in Small European States.Matthias Heymann & Janet Martin-Nielsen - 2013 - Centaurus 55 (3):221-242.
With this introduction we aim to illuminate Western Europe's place on the map of Cold War science and, specifically, to draw attention to the differences in and the diversity of Western European Cold War science in comparison to the United States. By discussing narratives of Cold War science in small states and asking how they fit into the European condition, we suggest that the fact of being a small state affects the conditions for and the scope of Cold War science. (...)

Grammatik, Logik, Und Psychologie: Ihre Principien Und Ihr Verhältniss Zu Einander.Heymann Steinthal - 2012 - Cambridge University Press.
The German linguist and mythologist Heymann Steinthal taught at the University of Berlin and was especially engaged with Wilhelm von Humboldt and his linguistic works. He was a co-founder of the Berliner Gesellschaft für Anthropologie, Ethnologie und Urgeschichte. This innovatory volume, published in 1855, draws a connection between the disciplines of linguistics and psychology, and further relates them to the issue of logic. The three parts of the book deal with the nature of grammar, its relation to logic and (...)

Science and convention: essays on Henri Poincaré's philosophy of science and the conventionalist tradition.Jerzy Giedymin - 1982 - New York: Pergamon Press.
Science and Convention: Essays on Henri Poincare's Philosophy of Science and The Conventionalist Tradition contains essays concerned with Henri Poincare's philosophy of science, physics in particular, and with the conventionalist tradition in philosophy that he revived and reshaped, simultaneously with, but independently of, Pierre Duhem. Separating five essays as chapters, the book discusses the main ideas of the philosophy (Essays 1 and 5), traces at least some of its historical background (Essays 1, 2, and 3), and provides some of its (...)

    On The Concept of Pleasure.Ezra Heymann - 2015 - Apuntes Filosóficos 24 (46).
We distinguish between the Aristotelian conception under which pleasure is understood as the feeling of the accomplished exercise of the active tendencies of a living being, and a conception according to which the search for pleasure or the removal of uneasiness determines every activity. Freud is considered as a representative of this second conception and more often than not he presents himself in that way. However, we find conclusive statements in Freud’s work according to which the principle of pleasure, considered (...)
