    Geistesleben im 13. Jahrhundert.Jan Aertsen & Andreas Speer (eds.) - 2000 - De Gruyter.
The 13th century is often regarded as the epitome of the Middle Ages. The present volume aims to demonstrate new perspectives in research into this century. The main topics in the book are questions from the fields of theoretical and practical philosophy, theology, the history of institutions, problems in literature, art, learning and education, and cultural contact. This 27th volume of the Miscellanea Mediaevalia contains the papers delivered to the 31st Medievalists’ Conference held in Cologne in September 1998, (...)

    (1 other version)Maimonides’ Demonstrations.Josef Stern - 2001 - Medieval Philosophy & Theology 10 (1):47-84.
It is well known that Maimonides rejects the Kalam argument for the existence of God because it assumes the temporal creation of the world, a premise for which he says there is no “cogent demonstration (burhan qat'i) except among those who do not know the difference between demonstration, dialectics, and sophistic argument.”Moses Maimonides, The Guide of the Perplexed, trans. Shlomo Pines (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1963), I:71:180. All references are to this translation; parenthetic in-text references are to part, chapter, (...)

  16. Are Aristotle's energeiai states or events?Ludger Jansen - 1997 - In Georg Meggle & Julian Nida Rümelin (eds.), Analyomen 2. Philosophy of Mind, Practical Philosophy, Miscellanea. pp. 369-375.
In 'Metaphysics IX.6' (1048b 18-35) Aristotle presents a test to distinguish between "kinesis" and "energeia," based on relations between the perfective and the imperfective aspect of the verb. This passage has been interpreted as drawing a linguistic distinction between classes of verbs (e.g., stative verbs) by means of a linguistic criterion (Ackrill, Graham). But such an interpretation is in conflict with the text. Aristotle's test must, therefore, be understood as a metaphysical criterion between items in the world (rather than lingual (...)

Handlung und Verantwortung. Mackie's Rule Put Straight.Ralf Stoecker - 1997 - In Georg Meggle & Julian Nida Rümelin (eds.), Analyomen 2. Philosophy of Mind, Practical Philosophy, Miscellanea. pp. 357-364.

  19. (2 other versions)Is Narrow Content the Same As Content of Narrow State Types Opaquely Taxonomized?Alberto Voltolini - 1997 - In G. Meggle (ed.), Analyomen. Proceedings of the 2nd Conference “Perspectives in Analytic Philosophy” Volume III: Philosophy of Mind, Practical Philosophy, Miscellanea. De Gruyter. pp. 179-185.
Jerry Fodor now holds (1990) that the content of mental state types opaquely taxonomized (de dicto content: DDC) is determined by the 'orthographical' syntax + the computational/functional role of such states. Mental states whose tokens are both orthographically and truth-conditionally identical may be different with regard to the computational/functional role played by their respective representational cores. This make them tantamount to different contentful states, i.e. states with different DDCs, insofar as they are opaquely taxonomized. Indeed they cannot both be truthfully (...)
