Michel Foucault gilt weithin als ein Denker der Macht. Doch ist das ein recht einseitiges Etikett, das der Breite seines philosophischen Horizonts nicht gerecht wird und die eigentliche Stosskraft seiner diskursiven Interventionen verkennt. Demgegenuber wollen Foucaults Studien die Machtverhaltnisse stets als Spiele der Freiheit erkennbar machen, die fur die reale Praxis der Machtausubung konstitutiv sind. Somit sind Freiheit und Macht untrennbar miteinander verflochtene Erscheinungsweisen sozialer Krafte. Die Macht funktioniert als eine Problematisierung der Freiheit, die ihrerseits die wichtigste Voraussetzung der Machtausubung (...) darstellt. Die Autor/innen dieses Bandes, die so unterschiedlichen Forschungsgebieten wie etwa Rechtswissenschaft, Gender-Studies, Technikphilosophie angehoren, befassen sich mit Foucaults Analytik der Macht unter der Voraussetzung einer verborgenen Genealogie der Freiheit. Daraus ergibt sich ein vielfaltiges Bild der Korrelationen zwischen Macht und Freiheit in den diversen historischen Feldern epistemischer und politischer Praktiken. (shrink)

It explores the philosophy of Samkhya, which is based on nature and spirit, also found in Vedantic knowledge, and synthesizes it with the knowledge of spiritual well-being found in modern literature to conceptualize the roles of the direct, mediating and moderated mediation relationships of different Vedantic personality types, spiritual well-being and family structure with consciousness for sustainable consumption and its (...) three dimensions of environment, society and economy. Embryonic development in Drosophila melanogaster begins with a rapid series of mitotic nuclear divisions, unaccompanied by cytokinesis, to produce a multi‐nucleated single cell embryo, the syncytial blastoderm. The syncytium then undergoes a process of cell formation, in which the individual nuclei become enclosed in individual cells. This process of cellularization involves integrating mechanisms of cell polarity, cell–cell adhesion and a specialized form of cytokinesis. The detailed molecular mechanism, however, is highly complex and, despite extensive analysis, remains poorly understood. Nevertheless, new (...) insights are emerging from recent studies on aspects of membrane polarization and insertion, which show that membrane components from intracellular organelles are involved. In addition, actin and actin‐associated proteins have been heavily implicated while new evidence shows that microtubule cytoskeletal elements are mechanistically involved in all aspects of cellularization. This review will draw on both the traditional models and the new data to provide a current perspective on the nature of cellular blastoderm formation in Drosophila melanogaster. Postcolonial criticism has repeatedly debunked the ostensible neutrality of the ‘world’ of world literature by pointing out that and how the contemporary world – whether conceived in terms of cosmopolitan conviviality or neoliberal globalization – cannot be understood without recourse to the worldly event of Europe’s colonial expansion. While we deem this critical perspective indispensable, we simultaneously maintain that to reduce ‘the world’ to the world-making impact of capital, colonialism, and patriarchy paints an overly deterministic picture that runs the risk (...) of unwittingly reproducing precisely that dominant ‘oneworldness’ that it aims to critique. Moreover, the mere potentiality of alternative modes of world-making tends to disappear in such a perspective so that the only remaining option to think beyond oneworldness resides in the singularity claim. This insistence on singularity, however, leaves the relatedness of the single units massively underdetermined or denies it altogether. By contrast, we locate world literature in the conflicted space between the imperial imposition of a hierarchically stratified world (to which, as hegemonic forces tell us, ‘there is no alternative’) and the unrealized ‘undivided world’ that multiple minor cosmopolitan projects yet have to win. It is precisely the tension between these ‘two worlds’ that brings into view the crucial centrality not of the nodes in their alleged singularity but their specific relatedness to each other, that both impedes and energizes world literature today and renders it ineluctably postcolonial.
