BackgroundThe therapeutic effect of deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the subthalamic nucleus (STN) for Parkinson's disease (PD) is related to the modulation of pathological neural activities, particularly the synchronization in the β band (13–35 Hz). However, whether the local β activity in the STN region can directly predict the stimulation outcome remains unclear.ObjectiveWe tested the hypothesis that low-β (13–20 Hz) and/or high-β (20–35 Hz) band activities recorded from the STN region can predict DBS efficacy.MethodsLocal field potentials (LFPs) were recorded in (...) 26 patients undergoing deep brain stimulation surgery in the subthalamic nucleus area. Recordings were made after the implantation of the DBS electrode prior to its connection to a stimulator. The maximum normalized powers in the theta (4–7 Hz), alpha (7–13 Hz), low-β (13–20 Hz), high-β (20–35 Hz), and low-γ (40–55 Hz) subbands in the postoperatively recorded LFP were correlated with the stimulation-induced improvement in contralateral tremor or bradykinesia–rigidity. The distance between the contact selected for stimulation and the contact with the maximum subband power was correlated with the stimulation efficacy. Following the identification of the potential predictors by the significant correlations, a multiple regression analysis was performed to evaluate their effect on the outcome.ResultsThe maximum high-β power was positively correlated with bradykinesia–rigidity improvement (rs = 0.549, p < 0.0001). The distance to the contact with maximum high-β power was negatively correlated with bradykinesia–rigidity improvement (rs = −0.452, p < 0.001). No significant correlation was observed with low-β power. The maximum high-β power and the distance to the contact with maximum high-β power were both significant predictors for bradykinesia–rigidity improvement in the multiple regression analysis, explaining 37.4% of the variance altogether. Tremor improvement was not significantly correlated with any frequency.ConclusionHigh-β oscillations, but not low-β oscillations, recorded from the STN region with the DBS lead can inform stimulation-induced improvement in contralateral bradykinesia–rigidity in patients with PD. High-β oscillations can help refine electrode targeting and inform contact selection for DBS therapy. (shrink)

우암 송시열선생의 학문과 사상이 잘 나타난 자료 중 하나로는 우암선생이 찬서한 금석문을 들 수 있다. 조선시대 주자의 성리학이 일반화 되어가고 주자가례의 실천으로 묘갈 건립이 차츰 활발해지고 있었다. 그 시기에 우암선생이 묘갈 찬서에 적극적으로 참여하여 송자대전에 수록된 비갈의 수만도 500여기에 달하고 있다. 이 시기에 많은 수요에 부응하여 학문과 덕망이 높은 우암선생에게 비갈문을 받으려는 사대부들의 청탁은 자연히 많아질 수밖에 없었다. 우암선생이 찬서한 금석문 중에 송자대전에 수록된 비 중, 신도비가 97기이고 묘갈과 묘표가 354기나 된다. 송자대전에 누락된 비갈로 20여기를 찾아 볼 수 있다. 이들 (...) 비갈은 주로 남한의 각 지방에 분포 되어 있고 북한에도 다소 분포되어 있다. 신도비와 묘갈은 대부분이 건립 되었으나 묘표의 상당 수가는 아직까지 세워지지 못하고 있다. 세워지지 못한 비갈은 갑자기 집안이 몰락했거나 벼슬이 낮고 가세가 어려웠거나, 후손이 다른 사상으로 전환된 경우이다. 조선시대 비갈의 건립이 가장 활발했던 시기인 1650년경을 전후하여 지금까지 중국식의 양식과 형식에서 우리 고유의 조선식 비갈 형식이 정립되기 시작하였다. 신도비에서 쓰던 이수와 귀부를, 이수 대신 가첨석을, 귀부 대신 농대석을 사용하기 시작하였다. 묘갈도 원두형에서 가첨석을 쓰기 시작하여 갈에서 비의 형식으로 정형화 되어 갔다. 비문도 이수에 두전을 쓰던 것을 가첨석을 쓰기 때문에 비신의 이마부분에 전액을 쓰는 조선식으로 바뀌었다. 묘표와 묘갈을 구분하여 세우던 것을 가첨석을 쓰면서부터 혼용형으로 바뀌어 갔다. 우암선생의 금석문 중 신도비는 60% 탑본이 되어 있고 묘갈과 묘표는 20% 밖에 탑본이 되어 있지 않다. 비갈의 소재지가 대부분 알려져 있지 않아 수립 여부와 소재지를 파악하는 일이 우선적으로 이루어져야 하겠다. 송시열은 68세가 되던 1674년(현종 15) 무렵, 제자들과의 강론을 바탕으로 삼아 호연장에 대한 주자의 주석을 보충한 글인 「浩然章質疑」를 저술하였다. 송시열은 不動心의 근원으로서 勇의 개념을 精粗의 차이에 따라 血氣之勇과 義理之勇으로 구분하였다. 그리고 養氣의 방법인 ‘勿忘勿助’의 의미에 대하여, 天理의 보편성을 설명한 『중용』의 ‘鳶飛魚躍’과 동일한 것으로 파악하였다. 또한 知言의 문제의식을 『대학』의 格物致知와 결부하여 논하였고, 養氣 또한 誠意正心의 의미로 이해하였다. 즉 송시열은 ‘存天理 去人欲’이라는 성리학적 명제를 바탕으로 삼아 ‘格物致知 = 存天理’, ‘誠意正心 = 去人欲’으로 파악하였는데, 이때 ‘存天理 去人欲’은 단순히 형이상의 차원에 국한된 것이 아니었다. 따라서 知言(=格物致知=存天理)과 (...) 養氣(誠意正心=去人欲)의 문제 역시 현실의 차원에서 재해석될 수 있었다. 송시열은 義理之勇과 血氣之勇의 차별성을 對淸復讎의 방도에 관한 자신과 효종의 차이로 해석하며, 즉위 이후 군비확충에 집중하던 효종의 북벌계획을 血氣之勇으로 비판하였다. 또한 養氣의 방법인 ‘勿忘勿助’ 역시 청나라에 대한 복수가 하루아침에 실현될 수 있는 것이 아니므로 천천히 추진해야 마땅함을 지적하며, 義理의 배양이 북벌계획의 전제임을 강조하였다. 또한 義理를 토대로 삼아 詖·淫·邪·遁한 말들을 구별하는 知言의 문제의식을 衛正學·斥邪說이라는 명제와 동일하게 해석하는 가운데, 尹鑴를 비롯한 남인들의 탈주자학적 학문태도를 비판하며 知言의 개념을 동원하였다. 요컨대, 「浩然章質疑」를 중심으로 한 송시열의 浩然之氣論은 개인의 수양론 차원에서 형이상학적 의미를 중심으로 전개되어 온 그간의 논의를 탈피하여, 17세기 후반 尊中華·攘夷狄 및 衛正學·斥邪說이라는 현실적 논리로 전환되었다는 점에서 그 특징을 찾아볼 수 있다. 직(直)사상은 유가철학의 종지요 심법이며 지결이라 일컬어진다. 『주역』에서 ‘경이직내’라 하였고, 공자는 『논어』에서 인간의 태어남은 직이라 하였다. 맹자도 호연지기를 직으로써 기른다고 하였다. 정명도는 천지사이에 정정당당한 직이라 하였으며, 주자는 성현이 상전한 심법은 직 한 글자라 하여 유언으로 남겼다. 조선의 유학자 가운데 구봉 송익필은 제자인 김장생에게 「김은자직백설」의 글을 주면서 직에 대해 전승하고 있다. 이러한 직은 기호유학의 송시열, 권상하, 윤봉구, 김원행, 박윤원, 홍직필, 전우 등 근대 기호유학자들에게까지 사승(師承)되어 전해지고 있다. 고려 말부터 조선의 유학자들이 직에 대해 언급하고 있지만, 대부분 『주역』과 『심경』에 대한 설명에서 벗어나지 않는다고 할 (...) 수 있다. 그러나 본 연구에서 고찰한 바, 구봉 송익필로부터 기호유학으로 전승되고 있는 직사상은, 공·맹·정·주의 직사상을 온전히 담고 있으면서도, 이름, 호, 자, 서재명 등에 직에 대한 자신들의 견해를 붙여서 상전(相傳)하고 있다. 이런 특징은 스승과 제자 사이에 학문의 요체를 상전하는 학문적 수수(授受)방식이라 할 수 있으며, 특수한 전승(傳承)방식을 지니고 있다고 할 수 있다. 이런 점에서 조선유학자들 가운데 공·맹·정·주의 직사상의 맥은 구봉 송익필이 계승하고 있으며, 또한 그를 비롯하여 기호유학에서 학문적 특수성을 지닌 전승방식을 지니면서 근대 기호유학자들에게까지 사승(師承)되어져 온다고 할 수 있다. 이와 같은 구봉의 직사상에 대한 기호유학에서의 학문적 위상 정립과, 한국유학사상사에서의 재조명이 필요하다고 하겠다. 고청 서기와 구봉 송익필은 조선중기 신분적 제약 속에서도 수양과 학문에 정진하여 기호유학에 큰 업적을 남긴 유학자이다. 두 사람은 태어나면서부터 신분적 굴레에 얽매여 과거시험을 통한 관직의 길이 막혔지만, 그에 굴하지 않고 평생 동안 투철한 선비정신의 실천모습을 공통적으로 보여준다. 이들은 같은 시대를 살면서 교유하기도 하였으며, 두 사람 모두에게 가르침을 받은 송준길의 부친 송이창을 통하여, 충청 기호유학 형성 기반에 큰 영향을 남기고 있다. 이처럼 성리학을 국가제도의 기본이념으로 하는 조선중엽의 사회에서, 신분 차별과 관직의 길이 막힌 현실적 질곡을 극복하고 유학자로서 큰 업적을 남긴 두 사람의 (...) 실천정신 근저에는 고도(古道)를 지향한 도학정신이 자리한다. 두 사람이 공통적으로 추구한 실천정신에는, 탕(湯)임금이 설파한 ‘입현무방(立賢無方)’의 유가본래의 평등과 소통정신을 찾을 수 있다. 이는 『대학』에서 공자가 말한 왕도(王道)실천원리인 ‘혈구지도(絜矩之道)’와 그 맥을 같이한다. 아울러 두 사람이 추구한 평등과 소통의 실천적인 선비정신은, 오늘날 다문화와 다종교로 인한 갈등과 분쟁이 많이 발생하고 있는 현대사회에서 거울로 삼아 본받고 실천할 수 있는 정신적 귀감으로서 큰 의의를 지닌다. The Song of Roland is a Janus-faced poem, at once looking backwards to a basically Germanic tradition and feudal ethos, and forward to the nationalistic development of a coherent French society. George Fenwick Jones has recently shown in thorough and persuasive detail how deeply rooted the poem is in the old Germanic ethical tradition. It consistently expresses the way of life of a “shame culture.” Thus virtually all important actions are motivated and conditioned by the opinions of the actors' peers, (...) what others may think or say. Roland will not sound the horn for fear of losing his reputation: “En dulce France en perdreie mun los.” . He is, as the Anglo-Saxons said, domgeorne. The Christian Archbishop himself uses the same reasoning when exhorting the barons. (shrink)

Budaya massa, dalam pengertian sederhana adalah “karya kreatif yang dimassalkan, yang diproduksi secara masif, yang ditunjang teknologi dan industri tinggi [...] termasuk model pakaian, fashion, film, televisi, musik pop, lifestyle atau gaya hidup” (hlm. xiii-xiv). Agama, atau lebih tepatnya “tafsir atas agama, atau tafsir atas ajaran agama” (hlm. xiv) dapat menjadi tema karya kreatif itu. Contohnya, terutama, sinetron-sinetron religi bernuansa Islami yang sekarang ini semakin banyak tampil pada layar televisi, tanpa menunggu bulan istimewa Ramadhan. Selain itu, agama juga dapat menjadi (...) sensor untuk menentukan karya kreatif yang pantas dimassalkan lewat media elektronik maupun media cetak. sense yang digunakan oleh para penyensor adalah moral dan ajaran agama, yang dalam keyakinan mereka harus dijaga. Para penyensor ini bukan hanya lembaga sensor, melainkan juga kelompok- kelompok yang menyebut diri pembela agama tertentu. Lembaga sensor menyampaikan larangan; kelompok-kelompok ini menyerukan protes. Mengemban misi menjaga moral dan ajaran agama, para penyensor dan pemrotes lebih sering mengajukan argumen sensor yang tidak masuk akal (doesn’t make sense) alias “ajaib” (hlm. 163) dan konyol. Lebih ajaib dan konyol, mereka, yang mengaku menjunjung agama dan moral, tidak punya sense mengenai ketidakadilan, khususnya yang dialami wanita. Produk budaya massa yang menciptakan image negatif wanita dibiarkan menjejali benak masyarakat. Wanita harus dikendalikan sebab ia binal, nakal—dengan cara diambil hak atas tubuhnya, dibung- kam suaranya, dipermalukan di hadapan publik, dan kalau perlu dira- jam oleh massa, yang adalah laki-laki dan (sama-sama) wanita. Ketidakadilan terhadap wanita, yang dipublikasikan oleh budaya massa dan ajaran agama menjadi sorotan utama Veven Sp. Wardhana di dalam buku ini. Dipublikasikan di sini berarti ditampilkan di ruang publik supaya diterima sebagai sesuatu yang wajar dan sewajarnya oleh masyarakat. Perempuan: seksualitas, sunat, syahwat; Puanografi: Yang Bukan Perempuan (Tak) Ambil Bagian; Televisi dan Fashionista atawa Perempuan Nista; Perempuan di Layar Televisi: Dari Losmen sampai sinema Relijius; dan Catatan sipil, Media Hiburan, dan Fatwa Haram adalah lima judul yang paling sarat dengan gugatan Wardhana atas perlakuan tidak adil terhadap wanita di negeri ini.................. Pembaca perlu mengingat bahwa buku ini merupakan kumpulan delapan belas tulisan Wardhana dari berbagai waktu dan ruang publi- kasi. Oleh sebab itu, ada beberapa pembahasan dan contoh kasus yang muncul berulang-ulang, antara lain, mengenai sensor film Yang Muda Yang Bercinta (1977) karya Sjuman Djaya dan isu perkawinan Bambang- Halimah. Dengan demikian, kedelapan belas judul pada buku tidak merepresentasikan sebuah rangkaian pemikiran yang sistematik. Na- mun, hal ini tidak mengurangi nilai karya Wardhana, tidak pula menum- pulkan kritiknya terhadap keempat penguasa ruang publik: budaya massa, agama, kapitalisme, dan politik. Akhirnya, menyajikan karyanya kepada masyarakat, Wardhana mengajak setiap warga negara ini untuk bersikap kritis terhadap karya- karya kreatif yang dipublikasikan lewat media cetak dan media elek- tronik. Masyarakat tidak perlu menunggu pemerintah dan para kreator budaya massa mengubah haluan dari pembodohan ke pencerdasan. Masyarakat sendiri harus mampu menghentikan proses pembodohan dengan menyeleksi bacaan dan tontonan yang mereka sajikan, dan me- milih hanya yang mencerdaskan dirinya. Verb extension is a crucial gauge of the acquisition of verb meaning. In English, studies suggest that young children show conservative extension. An important test of whether an early conservative extension is a general phenomenon or a function of the input language is made possible by Chinese, a language in which verbs are more frequent and acquired earlier. This study tested whether 3-year-old Chinese children extended a group of familiar verbs that specify various ways tocarryobjects. Shown videos that portrayed typical, (...) mid-typical, or atypical carrying actions (as verified by Chinese adults), children were asked to judge whether they were examples of specific Chinese carry verbs. Children’s verb extensions were mostly limited to typical exemplars, suggesting that an early conservative extension may be universal. Furthermore, extension breadth was related to the onset of verb production: verbs acquired earlier elicited more extension judgments than those acquired later. (shrink)

Based on the evolutionary game theory, this article constructs a quartet evolutionary game model for debt restructuring with the participation of asset management companies; studies the interactive mechanism of complex behaviors among the government, banks, asset management companies, and enterprises; and analyzes the stability of the strategies of each game subject. It also analyzes the stability of the equilibrium points in the system and finds the stable points that maximize the interests of each subject. Research shows that the government chooses (...) to give specific support, banks choose debt-to-equity swaps, asset management companies choose to provide liquidity, and enterprises choose to work hard, which can better promote the debt restructuring process. Finally, using Matlab2018 software to analyze the impact of each essential element in the debt restructuring on the stability of system evolution, the research results provide a basis for the successful debt restructuring of the enterprises. This study aims to examine key attributes affecting Airbnb users' satisfaction and dissatisfaction through the analysis of online reviews. A corpus that comprises 59,766 Airbnb reviews form 27,980 listings located in 12 different cities is analyzed by using both Latent Dirichlet Allocation and supervised LDA approach. Unlike previous LDA based Airbnb studies, this study examines positive and negative Airbnb reviews separately, and results reveal the heterogeneity of satisfaction and dissatisfaction attributes in Airbnb accommodation. In particular, the emergence of the topic (...) “guest conflicts” in this study leads to a new direction in future sharing economy accommodation research, which is to study the interactions of different guests in a highly shared environment. The results of topic distribution analysis show that in different types of Airbnb properties, Airbnb users attach different importance to the same service attributes. The topic correlation analysis reveals that home like experience and help from the host are associated with Airbnb users' revisit intention. We determine attributes that have the strongest predictive power to Airbnb users' satisfaction and dissatisfaction through the sLDA analysis, which provides valuable managerial insights into priority setting when developing strategies to increase Airbnb users' satisfaction. Methodologically, this study contributes by illustrating how to employ novel approaches to transform social media data into useful knowledge about customer satisfaction, and the findings can provide valuable managerial implications for Airbnb practitioners.
