In the art of radical Informel, we encounter works with emphasised non-pictoriality, non-semantics and non-referentiality, as well as a tendency towards entropy, layering and the disintegration of form through destructive processes such as deformation, perforation, incision, scratching, the accumulation of structures and masses, fragmentation, stripping and burning. In this paper, theoretical models of interpretation for the art of radical Informel are pointed out through the concepts of the aesthetics of ugliness, i.e. brutal aesthetics, such as (1) deformation, (2) disfiguration, (3) (...) formlessness and (4) entropy – using the example of the informal works of Croatian authors Ivo Gattin, Eugen Feller and Marijan Jevšovar, which result from their attitude towards art and painting. The artists have deliberately created paintings that are not “beautiful” by opposing the classical values of art and beauty through oppositional and negative approaches, nihilism, destruction, deformation and the abolition of the surface of the painting as forms of anti-aesthetics. This paper deals with the problem of the subject in Bachelard?s concept of surrationalism. Focusing on the epistemological character of surrational creativity, the issue of the subject is approached through the analysis of the relationship between subjectivity and objectivity in the surrational act. Comparing the character of novelty in surrealism and surrationalism, the paper introduces Bachelard?s distinction between formal and material imagination, with the latter further discussed through the prepositions?against? [contre] and?in? [dans]. Bachelard?s theory of the internal dialectic - the (...) theory of subdivision of the subject - is analyzed through his concept of reverie. The last chapter deals with the dialectic between the apodictic and the assertoric subject, aiming to reconsider the idea of interiority and repose. (shrink)

This article intends to critically envisage limits and values of philosophy of art of Arthur Danto and to point out the main problems of the theory of supstitutional representation, when placed within wider theoretical frame of traditional aesthetics, such as the notion of meaning in the philosophy of art of Arthur Danto. The article focuses on the notions of exteral and interal representation and denotation of non-existent and existent entities substituted by representation. Ovaj tekst pokusava da kriticki sagleda domete i vrednosti filozofije umetnosti Artura Dantoa i da istakne osnovne probleme sa kojima supstituciona teorija reprezentacije mora da se suoci, kada se ona zastupa u sirem teorijskom okviru tradicionalne estetike, kakav je pojam znacenja u filozofiji umetnosti Artura Dantoa. Posebnu paznju tekst usmerava na pojmove eksteralne i interalne reprezentacije i denotacije nepostojecih i postojecih entiteta, koji se reprezentacijom supstituiraju. The article examines the patient-doctor relationship, relying on Michel Foucault’s concept of the clinical gaze. We argue that during the last decades, a profound transformation of the social nature of medicine took place, one that Foucault’s understanding of the clinical gaze cannot adequately account for. First, the article offers an elaboration of the three-node network of clinical gaze, the clinic, and nosology to explain the positioning of the doctor and the patient within the specific social ontology generated by the rise (...) of medicine. We then discuss intensive but irresolute developments brought by technological advancements, especially the X-ray tube. Finally, we argue that in the contemporary clinic, equipped with a plethora of sophisticated devices, the position of the doctor endured the most radical transformation in comparison with Foucault’s proponent of the clinical gaze at the dawn of modern medicine. Stajn Rokan, norveski sociolog koji se bavio procesima nastanka drzava, nacija i demokratije u Evropi, ostavio je za sobom mnostvo pojedinacnih radova u kojima je pokusao da razvije svoj makro model politickog razvoja Evrope. Cilj mu je bio da na osnovu razlicitih istorijskih procesa, koji su uticali na stvaranje drzava i nacija, kao i na demokratizaciju, objasni mnogostranost evropskih drzava. Njegov pristup je, pri tome, antideterministicki i sirok, po cemu se uostalom njegova teorija i razlikuje od vecine drugih koje se (...) takodje bave procesima nastanka drzava i nacija. Zbog te svoje kompleksnosti se Rokanova teorija cini pogodnom za istorijsku komparativnu makrosociologiju kao i za analizu dugorocnih razvojnih puteva. Ovaj clanak ce u prvom delu prikazati Rokanovo shvatanje teorije u nacelu. U drugom delu ce se prikazati s?ma teorija, njene varijable i dimenzije. (shrink)

In his essay?The Protestant Ethic? Max Weber explains the specific economic development and the foundation of capitalism in Western Europe due to the appearance of protestant sects and the?spirit of capitalism?. By doing so, Weber assigns religion a significant place among the factors of social and economic development. Taking Weber?s theory and argumentation as a starting point, this article drafts a thesis on?orthodox ethic? and determines its role in the development of the?spirit of capitalism? in orthodox countries. For that purpose (...) this article compares political-historical circumstances on the territory of the Western and Eastern Church on one, and pictures the theological-philosophical basis of both Protestantism and Orthodoxy on the other side. Maks Veber specifican ekonomski razvoj i utemeljenje kapitalizma u zemljama Zapadne Evrope objasnjava po?javom protestantskih sekti i svojevrsnim protestantskim?duhom kapitalizma?, dodeljujuci na taj nacin religiji znacajno mesto medju ciniocima drustvenog i ekonomskog razvoja. Polazeci od Veberove teorije i argumentacije, u ovom radu se zeli postaviti teza o?pravoslavnoj etici? i odrediti njena uloga u razvoju?duhu kapitalizma? u pravoslavnim zemljama. Clanak nastoji da utvrdi identitet umetnickog dela u slikarstvu, muzici i knjizevnosti. Rasprava je po svom karakteru ontoloska. Posebna paznja posvecena je problemu falsifikata umetnickog dela u razlicitim umetnostima. Tu razlikujem dve vrste falsifikata: fake i forgery. Prva vrsta falsifikata postoji iskljucivo u umetnostima u kojima je umetnicko delo singularan fizicki objekat, takozvanim autografskim umetnostima, dok se druga vrsta falsifikata moze pojaviti i u drugim, alografskim, umetnostima, iako mnogo redje. Sa problemom falsifikovanja umetnickog dela usko je povezano pitanje mogucnosti redukovanja (...) umetnickog dela na formalni simbolicki sistem, koji bi predstavljao svojevrsnu definiciju umetnickog dela. Rasprava pokazuje da konzistentna analiza ontoloskog statusa umetnickog dela u razlicitim formama umetnosti, daje naizgled neintuitivne i iznenadjujuce rezultate. (shrink)

The usage of new and progressive technologies brings with it new types of security threats and security incidents. Their number is constantly growing.The current trend is to move from reactive to proactive activities. For this reason, the organization should be aware of the current security situation, including the forecasting of the future state. The main goal of organizations, especially their security operation centres, is to handle events, identify potential security incidents, and effectively forecast the network security situation awareness (NSSA). In (...) this paper, we focus on increasing the efficiency of utilization of this part of cybersecurity. The paper’s main aim is to compare selected statistical models and models based on neural networks to find out which models are more suitable for NSSA forecasting. Based on the analysis provided in this paper, neural network methods prove a more accurate alternative than classical statistical prediction models in NSSA forecasting. In addition, the paper analyses the selection criteria and suitability of time series, which do not only reflect information about the total number of security events but represent a category of security event (e.g. recon scanning), port or protocol. While face masks prevent the spread of disease, they occlude lower face parts and thus impair facial emotion recognition. Since emotions are often also contextually situated, it remains unknown whether providing a descriptive emotional context alongside the facial emotion may reduce some of the negative impact of facial occlusion on emotional communication. To address this question, here we examined how emotional inferences were affected by facial occlusion and the availability of emotional context. Participants were presented with happy or sad emotional (...) faces who were either fully visible or partially obstructed by an opaque surgical mask. The faces were shown either within an emotionally congruent (e.g., “Her cat was found/lost yesterday afternoon”) or neutral (“Get ready to see the next person”) context. Participants were asked to infer the emotional states of the protagonists by rating their emotional intensity and valence. Facial occlusion by masks impacted the ratings, such that protagonists were judged to feel less intense and more neutral emotions when they wore masks relative to when their face was fully visible. Importantly, this negative impact of visual occlusion by mask was reduced but not fully eliminated when the faces were presented within a congruent emotional context. Thus, visual occlusion of facial emotions impairs understanding of emotions, with this negative effect of face masks partially mitigated by the availability of a larger emotional context. (shrink)

The lack of formal education in research ethics is a significant issue for the ethical conduct of research in Serbia. We conducted a cross-sectional survey on a sample of researchers and ethics committee members in Serbia to evaluate their self-assessed competence and educational needs in research ethics. Results indicated that previous ethics education had a significant effect on respondents’ perception of their own competence in addressing issues like informed consent, authorship, and publishing. Respondents expressed a high motivation for further research (...) ethics education. Moreover, the study revealed that researchers with different specializations and different research experience have different educational needs. (shrink)

Introduction: There is significant overlap in the type of structural language impairments exhibited by children with autism spectrum disorder and children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. This similarity suggests that the cognitive impairment contributing to the structural language deficits in ASD and ADHD may be shared. Previous studies have speculated that procedural memory deficits may be the shared cognitive impairment. The procedural deficit hypothesis argues that language deficits can be explained by differences in the neural structures underlying the procedural memory (...) network. This hypothesis is based on the premise that the neural structures comprising the procedural network support language learning. In this study, we aimed to test the PDH in children with ASD, ADHD, and typical development.Methods: One hundred and sixty-three participants : 91 with ASD, 26 with ADHD, and 46 with TD, completed standardized measures of cognitive and language ability as well as structural magnetic resonance imaging. We compared the structural language abilities, the neural structures underlying the procedural memory network, and the relationship between structural language and neural structure across diagnostic groups.Results: Our analyses revealed that while the structural language abilities differed across ASD, ADHD, and TD groups, the thickness, area, and volume of the structures supporting the procedural memory network were not significantly different between diagnostic groups. Also, several neural structures were associated with structural language abilities across diagnostic groups. Only two of these structures, the inferior frontal gyrus, and the left superior parietal gyrus, are known to be linked to the procedural memory network.Conclusions: The inferior frontal gyrus and the left superior parietal gyrus, have well-established roles in language learning independent of their role as part of the procedural memory system. Other structures such as the caudate and cerebellum, with critical roles in the procedural memory network, were not associated with structural language abilities across diagnostic groups. Between the two World Wars, in Belgrade and Serbia, seven musical journals were published:?Musical Gazette?,?Music?,?Herald of the Musical Society Stankovic?,?Sound?,?Journal of The South Slav Choral Union?,?Slavic Music? and?Music Review?. The influence of marxism can be observed in?Musical Herald?,?Sound? and?Slavic Music?. A Marxist influence is obvious through indications of determinism. Namely, some writers observed elements of musical art and its history as consequences of sociopolitical and economic processes. Still, journals published articles of domestic and foreign authors who interpreted the relation between (...) music, society and economy in a much more moderate and subtle manner. Editors and associates of these journals also had proscriptive ambitions - they recommended and even determined regulations for composers about what kind of music to write according to social goals and needs. According to tendencies in Marxism, there was a follow up of musical work in the Soviet Union. Editors tried not to be one-sided. There were writings about the USSR by left orientated associates as much as emigrants from that country, and articles of Soviet authors were translated. Also, there were critical tones about musical development in the first country of socialism. Serbian musical periodicals recognized the enormous threat from fascism. Also, there were articles about influence of Nazi ideology and dictatorship on musical prospects in Germany. Since Germany annexed Sudetenland in 1938,?Musical Herald? expressed support to musicians and people of that friendly country by devoting the October and November 1938 issue to Czechoslovak music, along with an appropriate introduction by the editor, Stana Djuric-Klajn. Niniejszy artykuł stanowi próbę udowodnienia tezy, zgodnie z którą „wojna z terroryzmem”, a ściślej z jego globalną postacią, jest de facto aktywnością wymierzoną w sam proces globalizacji. Karkołomny okazuje się zarówno brak działań zmierzających do eliminacji terroryzmu, jak i wszczynanie z nim „wojny”. Po pierwsze, globalizacja napędza terroryzm jako własną przeciwwagę, dlatego skuteczna z nim walka pociąga za sobą walkę z globalizacją. Po drugie, w tej perspektywie zwycięska „wojna z terroryzmem” zwiastuje jedno - samozniszczenie, unicestwienie tego, przeciw czemu występują terroryści. (...) Wątpliwości rodzą się nie tylko na tle praktycznych konsekwencji wypowiedzenia „wojny” globalnemu terroryzmowi oraz teoretycznego znaczenia tego terminu, lecz też samej możliwości prowadzenia wojny z tym czy jakimkolwiek innym zjawiskiem, miast realnym wrogiem. Jednakowoż „wojna z terroryzmem” to nie tylko wojna z globalizacją, to także wojna przeciw wartościom, które głosimy i w doniosłość których ponoć wierzymy. Łamiąc prawa innych w imię liberalnych wartości, nie możemy oczekiwać, że staną się one powszechnie bronione. W ten sposób wszyscy bierzemy udział w wielkim „teatrze przemocy”. (shrink)

Cypr zachował swoje bogate dziedzictwo kulturowe, a układ urbanistyczny i architektura w Nikozji są odzwierciedleniem zróżnicowanej historii stolicy. Nierozwiązany konflikt prowadzi do rywalizacji wokół kwestii kulturowych. To właśnie między innymi materialne dziedzictwo stało się „ofiarą” sytuacji politycznej i może być użyte do podsycania sporów i wzbogacania etnocentrycznych narracji. W takim przypadku jego ochrona może stać się selektywna. A z drugiej strony istnieje możliwość, że renowacje miejsc wspólnych lub istotnych dla innej grupy etnicznej staną się symbolem wysiłków na rzecz pojednania. Celem (...) artykułu jest przedstawienie, jak Cypryjczycy chronią osmańskie i brytyjskie dziedzictwo kulturowe w Nikozji. Niniejszy tom Studia Philosophiae Christianae zawiera część artykułów zaprezentowanych podczas międzynarodowej konferencji zorganizowanej w październiku 2015 r. na Uniwersytecie Kardynała Stefana Wyszyńskiego w Warszawie dla upamiętnienia sześćsetnej rocznicy wystąpienia Pawła Włodkowica na Soborze Powszechnym w Konstancji. Wraz z polskim przekładem wystąpienia Michaela Walzera – gościa specjalnego konferencji – stanowią one próbkę rozważań dotyczących zaledwie kilku aspektów niezwykle rozległej problematyki łączącej się z teorią wojny sprawiedliwej. Mamy nadzieję, że staną się one inspiracją do dalszych badań w dziedzinie etyki wojny – zachowującej (...) wciąż, mimo upływu wieków, jak również próby ogłoszenia przed kilkudziesięciu laty epoki „końca historii”, swoją niezmienną aktualność. In his rieview-like outline the author gives us a view of an important stream of the American and English philosophical thought of the XXth century, which has been unjustly neglected. First he briefly describes the five generation waves of the American personalism - from G. H. Howinson, J. W. E. Bowen, P. A. Bertocii. M. L. King up to C. R. Robb. He sheds light on the specific aspect of the development of this stream in Great Britain. Further, he examines (...) the mean sterams of the Anglo-American personalism, its idealiastic as well as its realistic branches. He presents all sterams of these two branches, emphasizing their respective characte_ristic features in the works of their important representatives. More than hundred representatives of personalism proof the manifold of the interpretations of the fundamental concept of the person. (shrink)

Jacques Derrida’s lectures on Theory and Practice leave a lot to be desired from the perspective of historical materialism. Yet, one can nonetheless find in them the germ of a genuine understanding of materialism. More specifically, following the systematic use of the word “enigma” in the text, I show that this term serves as the heu-ristic device for articulating an originally Derridean materialism, one which I name “enigmatic materialism,” and which, I argue, is genuinely collective, insofar as it opposes any (...) form of monism. Moreover, this materialism has profound repercussions for the concept of hope developed in these lectures. Hope, from the perspective of an “enigmatic materialist,” becomes a collective endeavour that avoids the pitfalls of solipsistic individualism through the joint effort of the subject and its/the Other.
