Is Everything Sacred Evaporating? Transhumanist Traces on Value Orientation of Generation Z.Talip Demir - 2022 - Marifetname 9 (1):111-139.
Social values are the basic cultural codes that determine the view of individuals to the world and can change with the effect of some developments. The concept of generation, which is one of the analytical tools used by social sciences to understand and explain the change in question, is used to express the clusters of people who were born in certain time periods. In this context, the Z generation, which is used to indicate those who were born after 2000, presents (...)

The Understanding of Miracles in Religious Publications in the Republican Period (1924-1960) of Türkiye.Abdurrahman Atalay - 2023 - Cumhuriyet İlahiyat Dergisi 27 (1):186-208.
It is possible to talk about many reasons that determine the direction of religious publications in the first quarter of the Republic, both in terms of content, style and method. While some of these factors came into play or became stronger with the Republic, an important part of it has a history that goes back to Ottoman modernization. The decline of the Ottoman state, which started on the battlefields, caused serious land losses. This regression damaged the self-confidence of Muslims and (...)

Multidimensional Approach to Religion: a way of looking at religious phenomena.Talip Küçükcan - 2005 - Journal for the Study of Religions and Ideologies 4 (10):60-70.
Modern societies have by nature a corrosive effect on traditional forms of religious life and lead to decline in the scope and influence of religious institutions and in the popularity of religious beliefs. This article argues that prophecies of traditional secularization theory failed to predict the future of religion in the contemporary world. Although modernity caused a degree of rupture between religion and society, there has also been a global revival of religion in the last two or three decades. In (...)

Effects of musical training and culture on meter perception.Charles Yates, Timothy Justus, Nart Bedin Atalay, Nazike Mert & Sandra Trehub - 2017 - Psychology of Music 45 (2):231–245.
Western music is characterized primarily by simple meters, but a number of other musical cultures, including Turkish, have both simple and complex meters. In Experiment 1, Turkish and American adults with and without musical training were asked to detect metrical changes in Turkish music with simple and complex meter. Musicians performed significantly better than nonmusicians, and performance was significantly better on simple meter than on complex meter, but Turkish listeners performed no differently than American listeners. In Experiment 2, members of (...)

Remembering melodies from another culture: Turkish and American listeners demonstrate implicit knowledge of musical scales.Timothy Justus, Charles Yates, Nart Bedin Atalay, Nazike Mert & Meagan Curtis - 2019 - Analytical Approaches to World Music 7 (1).
Beyond the major-minor tonality that characterizes classical and contemporary Western musical genres, Turkish classical and folk music offer experimental psychologists a rich modal system in which cognition, development, and enculturation can be studied. Here, we present a cross-cultural experiment concerning implicit knowledge of musical scales. Five groups of participants—American musicians and nonmusicians, Turkish musicians and nonmusicians, and Turkish classical and folk music listeners—were asked to listen to brief melodies composed using the member tones of either the major scale or the (...)

İstanbul: Ravza Yayınları, 2019, 310 s. [REVIEW]Zeynep Ceran - forthcoming - Sakarya Üniversitesi İlahiyat Fakültesi Dergisi.
Prof. Dr. Muhammed İffet Şarkavî, Çağdaş Dinî Düşünce (Modern Dönem Tefsir Akımlarının Analitik İncelenmesi) adlı çalışmasında “çağdaş sorunlar karşısında dinî düşüncenin vereceği cevaplar neler olabilir?” sorusuna cevap aramaktadır. Eserin temel gayesi genelde tüm müslümanların bu sorunlara çözüm üretebilmek için sergiledikleri felsefî, kelâmî, hukukî gayretleri incelemek; özelde ise çağın problemleri karşısında müslüman müfessirlerin konumunu ortaya koymaktır diyebiliriz. Müellif müfessirlerin özellikle on dokuzuncu ve yirminci yüzyıllarda yoğunlaşan sömürgecilik faaliyetlerinin İslam coğrafyasında sebep olduğu siyasî, ekonomik, kültürel bunalımlara çözüm sadedinde ortaya koydukları fikir akımlarıyla (...)
