Since James defined emotion as consciousness of bodily reactions and Cannon and others detailed the nature of these reactions, there has been an increasing tendency among behaviorists to equate emotions with visceral reactions and to neglect some of the genetic and adaptive aspects of emotion which had been discussed by Darwin.

    Advanced medical ethics symposia for fifth-year students.V. J. Grant - 1989 - Journal of Medical Ethics 15 (4):200-202.
Case-based, multidisciplinary seminars provided a vehicle for clinicians, philosophers and students to debate current problems in medical ethics in a manner which ensured maximum learning and interest for all participants. Prior training in philosophical medical ethics was an essential prerequisite, giving students the knowledge and skills to take part in the discussions at an appropriate level of sophistication.

Uniqueness, collection, and external collapse of cardinals in ist and models of peano arithmetic.V. Kanovei - 1995 - Journal of Symbolic Logic 60 (1):318-324.
We prove that in IST, Nelson's internal set theory, the Uniqueness and Collection principles, hold for all (including external) formulas. A corollary of the Collection theorem shows that in IST there are no definable mappings of a set X onto a set Y of greater (not equal) cardinality unless both sets are finite and #(Y) ≤ n #(X) for some standard n. Proofs are based on a rather general technique which may be applied to other nonstandard structures. In particular we (...)

    J.-p. Sartre’s humanism in the context of modern anthropological situation.V. V. Liakh & M. I. Khylko - 2019 - Anthropological Measurements of Philosophical Research 16:116-132.
Purpose. The article is aimed to show the specificity and heuristic value of the humanism of the French existentialist J.-P. Sartre, represented both in his early works, where the isolationist position prevailed, and considering his evolution to various types of collective responsibility and attempts to build a universal morality on the basis of ontological integral humanity. Theoretical basis. Taking into account the relevance of the topic of person’s searching for authentic existence in the modern world, the author analyzes the concept (...)

Humanism, Humanitarian Values and the Search for the Foundations of Modern Bioethics.V. I. Przhilenskiy - 2018 - Russian Journal of Philosophical Sciences 11:7-27.
The article discusses the relationship of the axiological foundations of modern bioethics with casual and even incidental effects of the activity of scholars in the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The author examine the ability of humanists to influence the formation of values system as well as the possibility of instrumentalizing these values in social practices. The study determines the entire causal complex that led to the formation of a special tradition of non-religious substantiation of values associated with the (...)

Effect of written outcome information on attitude of perinatal healthcare professionals at the limit of viability: a randomized study.V. Papadimitriou, B. Tosello & R. Pfister - 2019 - BMC Medical Ethics 20 (1):1-8.
Differences in perception and potential disagreements between parents and professionals regarding the attitude for resuscitation at the limit of viability are common. This study evaluated in healthcare professionals whether the decision to resuscitate at the limit of viability are influenced by the way information on incurred risks is given or received. This is a prospective randomized controlled study. This study evaluated the attitude of healthcare professionals by testing the effect of information given through graphic fact sheets formulated either optimistically or (...)

    A Bond Graph Model of the Cardiovascular System.V. Rolle, A. I. Hernandez, P. Y. Richard, J. Buisson & G. Carrault - 2005 - Acta Biotheoretica 53 (4):295-312.
The study of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) function has shown to provide useful indicators for risk stratification and early detection on a variety of cardiovascular pathologies. However, data gathered during different tests of the ANS are difficult to analyse, mainly due to the complex mechanisms involved in the autonomic regulation of the cardiovascular system (CVS). Although model-based analysis of ANS data has been already proposed as a way to cope with this complexity, only a few models coupling the main (...)

    Unification and Passive Inference Rules for Modal Logics.V. V. Rybakov, M. Terziler & C. Gencer - 2000 - Journal of Applied Non-Classical Logics 10 (3-4):369-377.
ABSTRACT We1 study unification of formulas in modal logics and consider logics which are equivalent w.r.t. unification of formulas. A criteria is given for equivalence w.r.t. unification via existence or persistent formulas. A complete syntactic description of all formulas which are non-unifiable in wide classes of modal logics is given. Passive inference rules are considered, it is shown that in any modal logic over D4 there is a finite basis for passive rules.

    What is Intuitionistic Arithmetic?V. Alexis Peluce - 2024 - Erkenntnis 89 (8):3351-3376.
L.E.J. Brouwer famously took the subject’s intuition of time to be foundational and from there ventured to build up mathematics. Despite being largely critical of formal methods, Brouwer valued axiomatic systems for their use in both communication and memory. Through the Dutch Mathematical Society, Gerrit Mannoury posed a challenge in 1927 to provide an axiomatization of intuitionistic arithmetic. Arend Heyting’s 1928 axiomatization was chosen as the winner and has since enjoyed the status of being the _de facto_ formalization of intuitionistic (...)

    Проблема зла в кабалістичній традиції.V. V. Kuzev - 2008 - Ukrainian Religious Studies 45:24-30.
The answer to the question "unde malum?" has never been idle in monotheistic theology. In an effort to understand this issue, the Kabbalistic tradition has built complex systems. In the scope of this work, we do not claim to be considered in detail. We will conduct a brief review of these issues, first of all, to find out the essential basis on which the interpretation of the origin of evil and its manifestations within the framework of the mentioned religious and (...)

    Linguistic Norm History.V. A. Litvinov - 2013 - Liberal Arts in Russia 2 (1):94.
The article deals with the problem of norm and normative approach to the diachronic language study. It identifies specificity of the normative approach to linguistic means within various linguistic traditions and determines the main features of the linguistic norm. The author points out that specific norms appear at each stage of language development as the result of correlation of the existing language means.

    1. Perestroika, the revolutionary renewal of Soviet society, has posed quite a few difficult tasks for the social sciences, one of which is a reexamination of dogmas and stereotypes of thought considered absolutely correct for decades, and hence never discussed, especially publicly. But today, on the pages of newspapers and magazines, on radio and television, a broad and open discussion has been unfolding of practically all the basic questions of history and of the theory and practice of socialism—a discussion such (...)

In his critique of empiriocriticism, V. I. Lenin also considered it necessary to characterize its relationship to religion in order to show more fully the social significance of this school, which was fashionable in its time. In contrast to those who took at face value the pretensions of Machism to present the scientific thought of the nineteenth century and who hastened to put it in place of "obsolete" materialist dialectics, V. I. Lenin unmasked the "completely reactionary character" of this essentially (...)

Recently, the scientific and journalistic heritage of A.Richynsky as an ideologist and organizer of the Ukrainian church-national movement in Volyn in the 20-30s of the XX century has attracted considerable attention of researchers. From this perspective, the most outstanding work of A.Richinsky's "Features of Ukrainian Religious Consciousness" is analyzed by scholars, though we admit that the theological and philosophical component in A.Richinsky's religious heritage remains almost unexplored. The article will trace the formation of A. Richinsky's teaching on the relationship between (...)

The topic of consent in paediatrics is made more difficult, and at the same time more interesting, by the complexity of the issues involved and the consequent diversity of viewpoints. In a teaching session for senior medical students on consent in paediatrics it proved necessary to reinstate previous learning from a range of disciplines. Philosophical medical ethics, developmental psychology, communication skills and the appropriate legal definitions all contributed to a proper understanding of the cases presented. The two most important additional (...)

Results from a smaller study of non-patients' attitudes are also reported. Findings are discussed in terms of patients' rights, issues of personal privacy, medical education, and the public good.
