Attributions toward Artificial Agents in a modified Moral Turing Test.Eyal Aharoni, Sharlene Fernandes, Daniel Brady, Caelan Alexander, Michael Criner, Kara Queen, Javier Rando, Eddy Nahmias & Victor Crespo - 2024 - Scientific Reports 14 (8458):1-11.
Advances in artificial intelligence (AI) raise important questions about whether people view moral evaluations by AI systems similarly to human-generated moral evaluations. We conducted a modified Moral Turing Test (m-MTT), inspired by Allen et al. (Exp Theor Artif Intell 352:24–28, 2004) proposal, by asking people to distinguish real human moral evaluations from those made by a popular advanced AI language model: GPT-4. A representative sample of 299 U.S. adults first rated the quality of moral evaluations when blinded to their source. (...)

The opinions and experiences of Irish obstetric and gynaecology trainee doctors in relation to abortion services in Ireland.Kara Aitken, Paul Patek & Mark E. Murphy - 2017 - Journal of Medical Ethics 43 (11):778-783.
Introduction The provision of abortion services in the Republic of Ireland is legally restricted. Recent legislation that has been implemented allows for abortion if there is a real and substantial risk to the woman's life, but in general Irish women must travel abroad for abortion services. The aims of this study were to investigate the clinical experiences of Irish obstetric non-consultant hospital doctors that work in this environment and to assess their attitudes towards termination of pregnancy. Methods We conducted an (...)

Asmeninės socialinės paslaugos išorinių grėsmių kontekste: socialinės sistemos atsparumo analizės rėmai.Laimutė Žalimienė, Eugenijus Dunajevas, Violeta Gevorgianienė, Eglė Šumskienė & Rasa Genienė - 2024 - Filosofija. Sociologija 35 (4).
Egzistencinės grėsmės, tokios kaip pandemija, karas, neteisėta migracija, priskirtinos didelio poveikio grėsmėms, nes destabilizuoja gerovės sistemas, kelia pavojų valstybės saugumui ir visuomenės sanglaudai. Grėsmių poveikį pirmieji pajunta socialiai pažeidžiami žmonės, todėl socialinės pagalbos sistemos turi transformuotis, kad atlieptų naujai atsiradusių pažeidžiamų grupių poreikius. Straipsnyje, remiantis literatūros analize, gilinamasi į sistemos atsparumo sampratą žvelgiant per asmeninių socialinių paslaugų (ASP) sistemos ypatumus. Pasitelkiant J. S. Colemano įžvalgas apie socialines sistemas, bendrą atsparumo koncepciją, kildinamą iš ekologinių sistemų teorijos, bei socialinės sistemos mikro-, mezo- (...)

Hans Blumenberg is often considered an intellectual solitaire, an “invisible philosopher” and a modern hieronym in the hermitage. But for Blumenberg’s scientific work of the 1960s, the picture is very different. Julia Amslinger introduces Hans Blumenberg’s interdisciplinary engagement within the research group Poetics and Hermeneutics that was founded in 1963.

    Ugly Freedoms.Elisabeth R. Anker - 2022 - Durham: Duke University Press.
In _Ugly Freedoms_ Elisabeth R. Anker reckons with the complex legacy of freedom offered by liberal American democracy, outlining how the emphasis of individual liberty has always been entangled with white supremacy, settler colonialism, climate destruction, economic exploitation, and patriarchy. These “ugly freedoms” legitimate the right to exploit and subjugate others. At the same time, Anker locates an unexpected second type of ugly freedom in practices and situations often dismissed as demeaning, offensive, gross, and ineffectual but that provide sources of (...)

From the "topos of nothingness" to the "space of transparency": Kitarō Nishida's notion of.Jin Baek - 2008 - Philosophy East and West 58 (1).
: In his philosophy of nothingness, Kitar Nishida illuminates the matrix of transformation of the world ‘‘from the Created to the Creating’’ (tsukuru mono kara tsukurareta mono e) through shintai, or the body. In this matrix, shintai enters into the stage of an action-sensation continuum and emerges as the immaculate iconic tool of nothingness to create new figures as extended self. This idea of shintai has resonance with the development of postwar art in Japan. The ‘‘Space of Transparency’’ put forth (...)

At first glance, Tommy Curry’s project in Another white Man’s Burden may seem like a strange undertaking. While American philosophers have been writing more frequently on Royce over the past decade, he remains a fairly peripheral figure. Those of us in Society for the Advancement of American Philosophy circles may be able to recognize terms like “Beloved Community” or “Loyalty to Loyalty” readily, but we would be hard-pressed to gain an audience for conversations about them at the American Philosophical Association’s (...)
