"Homo currens": the experience of philosophical research of ego texts of modern Russian fans of stayer running.Stanislav Vladimirovich Kannykin - forthcoming - Philosophy and Culture (Russian Journal).
The current stage of the development of amateur stayer running practices can be characterized as personality-building, since the main goals of runners (especially marathon runners and super marathon runners) are not so much related to strengthening health, as to the sphere of personal improvement and self-knowledge: the development of will, character, testing yourself in an extreme situation, testing previously inaccessible emotions and states of consciousness. The object of the study is ego texts (books for a wide audience, including the online (...)

George Sheehan as a researcher of the humanistic potential of amateur stayer running.Канныкин С.В - 2024 - Philosophy and Culture (Russian Journal) 6:163-181.
The object of the study is the works of the American doctor, journalist, marathon runner, popularizer of running and thinker George Sheehan (1918-1993), first introduced into scientific circulation by Russian researchers of the philosophy of sports: "Running and being: a complete experience" (1978) and "The main thing with Sheehan: 30 years of running wisdom of the legendary Dr. George Sheehan" (2013). The subject of the study is the cultural content of amateur stayer running, its personality-creating potential, explicated from these works. (...)

How to Encourage Customers to Use Legal Software.Hung-Chang Chiu, Yi-Ching Hsieh & Mei-Chien Wang - 2008 - Journal of Business Ethics 80 (3):583-595.
This study attempts to identify customer retention strategies for legal software and discusses their effectiveness for three consumer groups (stayers, dissatisfied switchers, and satisfied switchers). Although previous studies propose several antipirating strategies, they do not discuss how to enhance customer intentions to use legal software, which is crucial for software companies. The authors provide four generic retention strategies developed from both antipiracy and customer loyalty literature. The results indicate lower-pricing, legal, communication, and product strategies all enhance customer purchase intentions (...)

The Running Man in the Mirror of Philosophy (review of the collective monograph "Running & philosophy. A marathon for the mind»).Канныкин С.В - 2024 - Philosophy and Culture (Russian Journal) 5:73-104.
The review of the collective monograph "Running and Philosophy", which has not been introduced into the sphere of domestic research of philosophical aspects of physical culture and sports, is presented. Marathon for the Mind" (published in English in 2007). The publication includes 19 essays prepared by American philosophers. The professional study of the socio-cultural determination and the existential significance of running practices by the authors of the monograph is effectively combined with the analysis of personal experience of participating in stayer (...)

Identifying bounded rationality with panel data: evidence from the labor markets of Italy and Germany.Bruno Contini & Toralf Pusch - 2018 - Mind and Society 17 (1):71-84.
In this paper we question the hypothesis of bounded rationality against full rationality in the context of job changing behavior, via simple econometric explorations on microdata drawn from Worker Histories Italian Panel (WHIP) and Sample of Integrated Labor Market Biographies (SIAB). The identification strategy builds on a quasi-counterfactual experiment in which the performance of each voluntary mover is compared to the average performance of a peer-group of stayers of the same skill group, co-workers in the firm from which the (...)

Salmon Bias or Red Herring?Paul Puschmann, Robyn Donrovich & Koen Matthijs - 2017 - Human Nature 28 (4):481-499.
The purpose of this research is to empirically test the salmon bias hypothesis, which states that the “healthy migrant” effect—referring to a situation in which migrants enjoy lower mortality risks than natives—is caused by selective return-migration of the weak, sick, and elderly. Using a unique longitudinal micro-level database—the Historical Sample of the Netherlands—we tracked the life courses of internal migrants after they had left the city of Rotterdam, which allowed us to compare mortality risks of stayers, returnees, and movers (...)

    Linking dispersal and resources in humans.Mary C. Towner - 2001 - Human Nature 12 (4):321-349.
Competition for resources is one of the main evolutionary explanations for dispersal from the natal area. For humans this explanation has received little attention, despite the key role dispersal is thought to play in shaping social systems. I examine the link between dispersal and resources using historical data on people from the small farming town of Oakham, Massachusetts (1750–1850). I reconstruct individual life histories through a variety of records, identifying dispersers, their age at dispersal, and their destinations. I find that (...)
