Determining whether or not noncommunicative patients are phenomenally conscious is a major clinical and ethical challenge. Clinical assessment is usually limited to the observation of these patients' motor responses. Recent neuroimaging technology and brain computer interfaces help clinicians to assess whether patients are conscious or not, and to avoid diagnostic errors.

Didacticism, romanticism, and classicism are the possible schemata for the knotting of art and philosophy, the third term in this knot being the education of subjects, youth in particular. What characterizes the century that has just come to a close is that, while it underwent the saturation of these three schemata, it failed to introduce a new one. Published in 1973, "L'Etourdit" was one of the French philosopher Jacques Lacan's most important works. The book posed questions that traversed the entire body of Lacan's psychoanalytical explorations, including his famous idea that "there is no such thing as a sexual relationship," which seeks to undermine our certainties about intimacy and reality. One may say that The Open Society and Its Enemies (OS) offered in 1945 the first complete elaboration of the general approach proposed by Karl Popper, namely his ‘critical rationalism’, a bold generalization of the fallibilist falsificationism in the domain of the empirical sciences masterly proposed in Logik der Forschung (1934). The political content of The OS has been critically discussed. Nevertheless, not all people insist on the equally important moral dimension of the book, giving it its unity, I submit. (...) Without morality, no critical discussion, no reason, no open society, let us say in a nutshell. I would argue that according to Popper, a strictly Christian morality of love would not be the appropriate emotional companion of critical rationalism, but that the less demanding moral emotion of sympathy or compassion is perhaps necessary to give it its force against violence. I give some support to this line of argument. In my view, Popper proposed a somewhat unarticulated critical rationalist ‘emotivism’ of sorts. The emotion of compassion is necessary for triggering our moral decisions and values, which are the ultimate basis of the choice for a reason against violence. (shrink)

Es lo que Hegel llama el universal concreto, la síntesis de lo que es absolutamente universal, que es para todos, y de lo que al mismo tiempo tiene un lugar y un momento particulares. Siendo absolutamente universal tiene particularidades nacionales y culturales. Hay eso que yo llamaría momentos de la filosofía, en el (...) espacio y en el tiempo. Querría así pues sostener una tesis histórica y nacional: ha habido o hay, según situación, un momento filosófico francés que se mantiene durante la segunda mitad del siglo XX y querría intentar presentar el vínculo de todos estos filósofos con la literatura en esta secuencia. Y hablaría también de la discusión constante, durante todo este periodo, entre la filosofía y el psicoanálisis. Cuestión del origen, cuestión de las operaciones, cuestión del estilo y de la literatura, cuestión del psicoanálisis, tales serán mis medios para intentar identificar esta filosofía francesa contemporánea. Résumé Le mode d’organisation par problèmes qui caractérise les Éléments de Géométrie d’Alexis Clairaut (1741) trouve plausiblement son origine dans l’introduction d’une catégorie éditoriale nouvelle dans une des éditions françaises des huit livres d’Euclide par le père Jésuite Claude-François Milliet-Dechales (1677) : celle des « Usages » adjoints à certaines propositions. La transformation de cette nouveauté éditoriale dans les commentaires de Jacques Ozanam au texte de Dechales en 1690, puis sa réélaboration dans son Cours mathématiques de 1693, conduit à un (...) dispositif d’introduction à la géométrie très proche de ce que proposera ensuite Clairaut, moyennant plusieurs simplifications drastiques. Cette reconstruction est étayée par la lecture que proposera plus tard La Chapelle, dans ses Institutions de Géométrie (1746) aussi bien des « Usages » de Dechales et d’Ozanam que de la méthode d’exposition de Clairaut. Nous montrons au passage que La Chapelle s’inspire largement de cette dernière. (shrink)

Le projet de ce livre est né d'une inquiétude, celle de voir le mot peuple rejoindre (...) sans espoir de retour le groupe des mots tels que république ou laïcité, dont le sens a évolué pour servir au maintien de l'ordre. Malgré leur diversité, les textes ici réunis ont en commun de montrer ce que peuple garde de solidement ancré du côté de l'émancipation. (shrink)

This paper assumes that the realization of a teaching action implies the conceptualisation and the theorization of practice, a positioning that allows to put things into perspective with respect to the professional activity and to learners, as well as a complex linguistic and cognitive positioning towards academic knowledge and institutional injunctions. This hypothesis is confronted with the scriptural positioning that young pre-service teachers adopt for the writing of their professional report, and is viewed through the lens of the point of (...) view issue. After having considered this issue in its various dimensions, the paper focuses on the linguistic concept of point of view, then analyses its relations to the adjacent notion of empathy and, more specifically, of empathic mobility. Finally, it explains how these linguistic technics, correlated to the empathic mobility and to the related abilities, contribute to the professionalization of (young) teachers by allowing them to problematize their own point of view; this problematization is achieved through a reflexive distance from the point of view of (institutional or academic) authority figures or from their own research objects and by taking into consideration their current situation and their experience in order to better emphasize the complexity of their research object and to better prepare for their professional activity.
