  1. Goltz against cerebral localization: Methodology and experimental practices.J. P. Gamboa - 2020 - Studies in History and Philosophy of Science Part C: Studies in History and Philosophy of Biological and Biomedical Sciences 84:101304.
In the late 19th century, physiologists such as David Ferrier, Eduard Hitzig, and Hermann Munk argued that cerebral brain functions are localized in discrete structures. By the early 20th century, this became the dominant position. However, another prominent physiologist, Friedrich Goltz, rejected theories of cerebral localization and argued against these physiologists until his death in 1902. I argue in this paper that previous historical accounts have failed to comprehend why Goltz rejected cerebral localization. I show that Goltz adhered (...)

Experiments with a data-public: Moving digital methods into critical proximity with political practice.Anders Kristian Munk & Anders Koed Madsen - 2019 - Big Data and Society 6 (1).
Making publics visible through digital traces has recently generated interest by practitioners of public engagement and scholars within the field of digital methods. This paper presents an experiment in moving such methods into critical proximity with political practice and discusses how digital visualizations of topical debates become appropriated by actors and hardwired into existing ecologies of publics and politics. Through an experiment in rendering a specific data-public visible, it shows how the interplay between diverse conceptions of the public as well (...)

Der andere kritische Idealismus von Hermann Cohen.Reinier Münk - 2011 - Deutsche Zeitschrift für Philosophie 59 (2):271-282.
The present article offers a discussion of the question 'Why study Cohen?′. The author′s first and preliminary answer to the question is that the study of Hermann Cohen′s thought is relevant for contemporary philosophy for at least five reasons. They include Cohen′s improvement of critical idealism of the subject which he substitutes with his idealism of the idea; the exposition of thought as an ethics of law; the articulation of the notion of anticipation as the principle of time, history, and (...)

    Resiliens mellem individ og livsform.Martin D. Munk - 2016 - Slagmark - Tidsskrift for Idéhistorie 73:81-102.
In this paper it is demonstrated how the understanding of resilience is enhanced and shaped when using the concepts of oikos and life-modes. Instead of applying a rather problematic welfare capitalism model, which partially provides a negative social reproduction and production, it is suggested to apply a household/family model. The household/family model outlines that positive social reproduction and production, including real and productive values, potentially creates an essential bond between viable household, family, work, socialisation, and network based communities, resulting in (...)

The rationale of halakhic man: Joseph B. Soloveitchik's conception of Jewish thought.Reinier Munk - 1996 - Amsterdam: J.C. Gieben.
This book is an analysis of the thought of Joseph B. Soloveitchik (1903-1993). The analysis focuses on Soloveitchik's notion of transcendence as articulated in his doctoral thesis on Hermann Cohen and in three of his essays on halakhic thought, viz., 'The Halakhic Mind', and the Hebrew essays 'Ish ha-halakha' and 'U-viqqashtem mi-sham'.

    The Self as Agent and Spectator.Arthur W. Munk - 1965 - The Monist 49 (2):262-272.
Hermann Lotze has truly said that “among all the errors of the human mind” the “strangest” is doubting its “own existence,” or regarding it “at second hand as the product of an external Nature” which can be known only “indirectly” while the mind knows itself directly. Yet this denial is found both in the Occident and in the Orient. Moreover, while in the latter it stems largely from an extreme form of idealism in terms of a reductionistic pantheism, in the (...)

What Does CATS Have to Do With Cancer? The Cognitive Activation Theory of Stress (CATS) Forms the SURGE Model of Chronic Post-surgical Pain in Women With Breast Cancer.Alice Munk, Silje Endresen Reme & Henrik Børsting Jacobsen - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
Chronic post-surgical pain (CPSP) represents a highly prevalent and significant clinical problem. Both major and minor surgeries entail risks of developing CPSP, and cancer-related surgery is no exception. As an example, more than 40% of women undergoing breast cancer surgery struggle with CPSP years after surgery. While we do not fully understand the pathophysiology of CPSP, we know it is multifaceted with biological, social, and psychological factors contributing. The aim of this review is to advocate for the role of response (...)
