The last decade has seen an enormous development in infinite-valued systems and in particular in such systems which have become known as mathematical fuzzy logics. The paper discusses the mathematical background for the interest in such systems of mathematical fuzzy logics, as well as the most important ones of them. It concentrates on the propositional cases, and mentions the first-order systems more superficially. The main ideas, however, become clear already in this restricted setting.

Die Entwicklung einer „personalisierten Medizin“ ist zurzeit in aller Munde. Insbesondere die personalisierte Arzneimitteltherapie gewinnt infolge der pharmakologischen und molekulargenetischen Entwicklungen immer mehr an Bedeutung. Dies macht es erforderlich, die Auswirkungen der personalisierten Arzneimitteltherapie auf die gesetzliche Krankenversicherung (GKV) und die Patientenversorgung zu untersuchen. In diesem Zusammenhang stellt sich die Frage nach einer „Orphanisierung“: Könnten Arzneimittel der personalisierten Medizin regelmäßig als Orphan Drugs, also als Arzneimittel für seltene Leiden, ausgewiesen werden, würde für sie nach dem Arzneimittelneuordnungsgesetz (AMNOG) grundsätzlich kein Nachweis (...) des Zusatznutzens im Rahmen der vom Gemeinsamen Bundesausschuss (GBA) vorzunehmenden frühen Nutzenbewertung erforderlich werden. Entscheidend für die Ausweisung des Arzneimittels als Orphan Drug ist unter anderem die Prävalenzrate der Patientengruppe, deren Erkrankung mit dem Arzneimittel behandelt werden soll. In diesem Zusammenhang kommt der Stratifizierung von Patientengruppen im Rahmen der personalisierten Arzneimitteltherapie eine besondere Bedeutung zu. Eine solche „Orphanisierung“ hätte für die GKV wegen der mangelnden Kenntnis von dem Zusatznutzen des Arzneimittels insbesondere preisrechtliche Konsequenzen; für die Patienten sind die Folgen durchaus differenzierter zu betrachten. Taking its cue from contemporary western debates on presence in the social sciences and the humanities, this volume focuses on "presence" both as everyday experience and as an experience of intense moments. It raises questions about diverse social configurations of presence as well as about the specific cultural repertoires which encode, articulate, and shape discourses of presence. The contributions take as a premise that phenomena of presence are connected to particular forms of knowledge. Especially tacit knowledge (pre)determines experiences of individual (...) and collective presence and becomes tangible in moments of presence or presentification. (shrink)

The difficulty is serious, and unless we find a satisfactory solution we must admit that Descartes' thought moves in a vicious circle, or that the ideas, the building blocks of his philosophy, contain incompatible elements inasmuch as they appear both as self-sufficient and as dependent on extrinsic support. The problem of the cartesian circle, as it is customarily called, is therefore more than a special difficulty and would seem to warrant a careful re-examination in the light of recent contributions to (...) the study of Descartes' philosophy. The assignment of this pseudo-explanatory function in a supernatural realm, beyond the pale of any kind of verification, seems, however, of dubious value and can hardly be said to do justice to the power and subtlety of Plato's myths. For it would not raise them appreciably above the level of the whimsical products of an artist's imagination, designed to please or to relieve the mind after a strenuous intellectual exercise, rather than to uncover significant philosophic truths.

Wie die gesamte Logik der neueren Zeit, so befindet sich auch die mehrwertige Logik im Bereich sowohl mathematisch orientierter als auch philosophisch motivierter Betrachtungen. Soll daher ein Gesamteindruck vom aktuellen Entwicklungsstand der mehrwertigen Logik dem Leser vermittelt werden, muß der Autor diesen unterschiedlichen Aspekten Rechnung tragen. Das ist wegen der oft sehr differierenden Herangehensweisen durchaus problematisch. Im vorliegenden Buch wurde eine Synthese der fast ausschließlich kalkültechnisch orientierten Darstellung bei ROSSER/TURQUETTE [1952] und den weitgehend philosophisch orientierten Darstellungen bei RESCHER [1969] und (...) insbesondere bei SINOWJEW [1968] angestrebt. The study of complexity and optimization in decision theory involves both partial and complete characterizations of preferences over decision spaces in terms of real-valued monotones. With this motivation, and following the recent introduction of new classes of monotones, like injective monotones or strict monotone multi-utilities, we present the classification of preordered spaces in terms of both the existence and cardinality of real-valued monotones and the cardinality of the quotient space. In particular, we take advantage of a characterization of real-valued monotones (...) in terms of separating families of increasing sets to obtain a more complete classification consisting of classes that are strictly different from each other. As a result, we gain new insight into both complexity and optimization, and clarify their interplay in preordered spaces. (shrink)

This book explores the impact of disintegrity on various aspects of governance, as the disregard of ecological conditions produce grave direct effects to human rights (to water or food) and, indirectly, also to human security in several ways. International legal regimes need to be reconsidered and perhaps re-interpreted, in order to correct these situations that affect the commons today. Some believe that our starting point should acknowledge the impact we already have on the natural world, and accept that we now (...) live in the "anthropocene". Others think that the present emphasis on sustainable development needs to be re-defined. Finally, many believe that reconnecting with moral principles both in professional life and in governance in general represents a necessary first step. (shrink)

The choice of connectives for many valued propositional logics suitable for theoretical and applicational interests in most cases is an open problem up to now. We will not offer a general solution here, but support the point of view of some recent developments in fuzzy set theory that the triangular norms – t-norms for short – of Schweizer/Sklar [3] and the ϕ-operators of Pedrycz [2] represent quite general classes of connectives at least for many valued logics with truth value set (...) the real interval [0,1] . Special classes of t-norms and general properties of them have been discussed in some papers just recently, e.g. by Dombi [1], Weber [4], Yager [5] to mention only a few of them. (shrink)
