The jury remains out about the bottom-line relevance of organisational spirituality. This article reviews the arguments made thus far, using those sources most commonly cited as providing ‹evidence’ that organisational spirituality adds value to the bottom line. Having collated the evidence, this article offers some observation about the robustness of this existing ‹business case’. It then offers some preliminary conclusions on the literature review, examining the merits of pursuing a ‹business case’ in this field and identifying some specific questions for (...) future research. This paper argues that management practices are more readily portable across the sectors than has often been supposed, while indicating where particular care will be needed in translation. The paper suggests, however, that political pressure for control and an epistemological bias may prove to be management's Achilles heel. Further, it examines some dilemmas in the relationship between the manager and the managed, and queries the professions' outrage at being subject to increasingly overt management.

In the race to develop Artificial General Intelligence, an assumption within the AI community is that an artificial brain that complex would naturally develop consciousness. This spectre has produced calls for a global pause while regulation catches up, because of fears about ‘the Control Problem’, or what happens if AI goes rogue. This article will look at how this problem is tackled in human design. It seems that most of the elements of our design that are salient for the moderation (...) of our free will have not been copied into AI, because they are considered ‘junk code’. But if we are made in the image of God, these must be features, not bugs; and the Christian community is the embodiment of over two thousand years of practices designed to keep humanity on track. The anti-capitalist debate has traditionally drawn up battle lines between oppressed individuals on the one hand, and an oppressive system on the other. While this has high rhetorical value, it is based on imprecise use of language. The language confuses an amoral system with im/moral agents but at the same time uses anthropomorphic language to lend capitalism moral agency. This inevitably leads to a confused debate. Given that all opponents of capitalism want the reformation of what they see as a (...) flawed system, precision in the use of the language employed would move the debate into arenas of action, and thus the debate is more likely to generate change.
