  1. Promises and Trust.Daniel Friedrich & Nicholas Southwood - 2010 - In Hanoch Sheinman (ed.), Promises and Agreements: Philosophical Essays. Oxford, England and New York, NY, USA: Oxford University Press.
In this article we develop and defend what we call the “Trust View” of promissory obligation, according to which making a promise involves inviting another individual to trust one to do something. In inviting her trust, and having the invitation accepted (or at least not rejected), one incurs an obligation to her not to betray the trust that one has invited. The distinctive wrong involved in breaking a promise is a matter of violating this obligation. We begin by explicating the (...)

Unpublished writings from the period of Unfashionable observations.Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche - 1999 - Stanford, Calif.: Stanford University Press. Edited by Richard T. Gray.
This is the third volume to appear in an edition that will be the first complete, critical, and annotated English translation of all of Nietzsche's work. The edition is a new English translation, by various hands, of the celebrated Colli-Montinari edition. The present volume provides for the first time English translations of all of Nietzsche's unpublished notebooks from summer 1872 to the end of 1874. The major works published in this period were the first three Unfashionable Observations: 'David Strauss the (...)

Autonomie Und Unheimlichkeit: Jahrbuch Technikphilosophie 2020.Alexander Friedrich, Petra Gehring, Christoph Hubig, Andreas Kaminski & Alfred Nordmann (eds.) - 2020 - Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft Mbh & Co. Kg.

Human, all too human II and unpublished fragments from the period of Human, all too human II (spring 1878-fall 1879).Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche - 2013 - Stanford, California: Stanford University Press. Edited by Gary J. Handwerk.
Originally published as separate volumes as Mixed Opinions and Maxims (1879) andThe Wanderer and His Shadow (1880), the two works included here continue the aphoristic style begun in Volume I of Nietzsche's "Book for Free Spirits" and offer a window into the intellectual sources behind his evolution as a philosopher.

Max Weber, Werner Sombart and the Archiv für Sozialwissenschaft: The authorship of the ‘Geleitwort’ (1904).Peter Ghosh - 2010 - History of European Ideas 36 (1):71-100.
The article starts from an examination of the authorship of the ‘Geleitwort’, the programmatic statement which appeared in the Archiv für Sozialwissenschaft when it came under new editors in 1904. Recently scholars have begun to view it as an important text by Max Weber recovered from obscurity, but this is a mistake. Examination of major contemporary works by Weber and Werner Sombart – the obvious co-author – as well as the first public disclosure of an entirely new MS. by Weber, (...)

    Is real self-deception really all that biased?James Friedrich - 1997 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 20 (1):113-114.
The mechanisms invoked to demonstrate how self-deception can occur without intention or awareness imply that self-deceptive beliefs are nevertheless the outcome of inappropriate and often egoistically driven processes. In contrast, models of pragmatic reasoning suggest that self-deception may well be the “reasonable” output of a more generalized, adaptive approach to hypothesis testing.

Background Sharing anonymized/de-identified clinical trial data and publishing research outcomes in scientific journals, or presenting them at conferences, is key to data-driven scientific exchange. However, when data from scientific publications are linked to other publicly available personal information, the risk of reidentification of trial participants increases, raising privacy concerns. Therefore, we defined a set of criteria allowing us to determine and minimize the risk of data reidentification. We also implemented a review process at Takeda for clinical publications prior to submission (...)

More Than “Spending Time with the Body”: The Role of a Family’s Grief in Determinations of Brain Death.Annie B. Friedrich - 2019 - Journal of Bioethical Inquiry 16 (4):489-499.
In many ways, grief is thought to be outside the realm of bioethics and clinical ethics, and grieving patients or family members may be passed off to grief counselors or therapists. Yet grief can play a particularly poignant role in the ethical encounter, especially in cases of brain death, where the line between life and death has been blurred. Although brain death is legally and medically recognized as death in the United States and elsewhere, the concept has been contentious since (...)

Des choses divines et de leur révélation.Friedrich Heinrich Jacobi - 2008 - Librairie Philosophique Vrin.
