    Most mitochondrial proteins are synthesized in the cytosol as preproteins with a cleavable presequence and are delivered to the import receptors on the mitochondria by cytoplasmic import factors. The proteins are then imported to the intramitochondrial compartments by the import systems of the outer and inner membranes, TOM and TIM. Mitochondrial outer membrane proteins are synthesized without a cleavable presequence and most of them contain hydrophobic transmembrane domains, which, in conjunction with the flanking segments, function as the mitochondria import signals.     Applying Weglorz' mode s of set theory without the axiom of choice, we investigate Arrow-type social we fare functions for infinite societies with restricted coalition algebras. We show that there is a reasonable, nondictatorial social welfare function satisfying “finite discrimination”, if and only if in Weglorz' mode there is a free ultrafilter on a set representing the individuals.

    Learning depends on attention. The processes that cue attention in the moment dynamically integrate learned regularities and immediate contextual cues. This paper reviews the extensive literature on cued attention and attentional learning in the adult literature and proposes that these fundamental processes are likely significant mechanisms of change in cognitive development. The value of this idea is illustrated using phenomena in children's novel word learning.
