Ohne Martin Heideggers „Sein und Zeit“ von 1927 läßt sich weder die Philosophie des 20. Jhs. noch die philosophische Gegenwartsdiskussion verstehen. Wie kam es, daß sein bahnbrechender, innovativer Zugang zur Welt und zur menschlichen Existenz, sein neues Verständnis von Zeit und Geschichte, Sorge und Tod, Alltäglichkeit und Verstehen sowie seine grundsätzliche Kritik an traditioneller Ontologie und Bewußtseinsphilosophie bereits die erste Schülergeneration zu wegweisenden Entwürfen inspirierte? Warum blieb das Werk Fragment? Wodurch ermöglichte es dennoch Rezeptionen, die bis in die Gegenwart Epoche (...) machten? Wie konnte das Werk seine tiefgreifenden Wirkungen auf ev. wie kath. In the following essay I would like to clarify the connection between philosophical anthropology and fundamental questions in ethics with regard to the subject of negativity. When I first began a systematic analysis of the presuppositions of moral praxis, I came upon the problem of the basic conceptual framework for ethics. The pursuit of these questions brought about a radicalization in my thinking about ethics, which in turn led me to inquire into the fundamental question of philosophy. I want to (...) present this path of reflection, using a discussion of Hegel and Heidegger as a background, in four steps: first, the fundamental question of philosophy; second, the ground of philosophy; third, an anthropological analysis of temporal finitude ; and fourth, the practical-philosophical meaning of negativity. In the many individual studies of Wittgenstein’s work, it seems to me that the radical impulse of his thinking has become lost. I would, first of all, like to bring this impulse back into the forefront of analysis by considering the following fundamental insight: by necessity, every kind of method for making a language understandable itself requires a language.

The studies in this volume investigate the philosophical, theological, and aesthetic importance of the connection between fundamental philosophical questions of the structure and forms of transcendence and the concept of negativity. The pieces lead to a deeper view of the systematic connection between transcendence and negativity and explore the implications of this connection for a rational and reflective understanding of self and world as well as for the cultural form of a humane world.
