Oou seja, o indivíduo comete atos maus porque não averigua os dados, não os avalia. Eem tal hipótese, o “mal banal” ocorre devido à ausência do “juízo reflexionante” (ou reflexivo) e da “mentalidade alargada” kantianos, resolvendo muitas das lacunas que o mal derivado do pensamento possui, como a que exige distinguir o raciocínio (...) do pensamento. Na obra Eichmann em Jerusalém – um relato sobre a banalidade do mal, Hannah Arendt descreve em determinada passagem que o réu Otto Adolf Eichmann invoca o imperativo categórico de Immanuel Kant, na busca de justificar sua conduta criminosa no massacre ocorrido na Alemanha nazista. Inertes numa sociedade desfigurada e que apresentava novas leis, tanto o réu quanto os demais criminosos viviam sob um véu de cegueira, que não poderia, porém, ser fundamento para a barbaridade cometida. Parto de uma conceitualização geral de como o problema do mal fora abordado ao longo da tradição filosófica e religiosa, enquanto problema ontológico e relativo, no mais das vezes, a uma teodiceia que busca explicar a existência do mal no mundo. Em seguida, abordo uma nova forma de se pensar o problema do mal através do pensamento idealista de Immanuel Kant, que movimentou a problemática em uma direção outra àquela anterior, ou seja, afirmando que o mal não era um problema (...) localizado na realidade, mas no sujeito enquanto ser dotado de moralidade, residindo na dimensão mais radical da natureza humana. Em Arendt, o mal deixa o plano do sujeito singular e passa a ser compreendido enquanto um fenômeno político. Para a autora, o mal não deve ser um fenômeno político, todavia com a ascensão dos movimentos totalitários e outros fenômenos de ruptura com o fio da tradição, esse problema passa a ocupar a dimensão da vida pública. Desta forma, o objetivo da autora é tentar compreender as condições para se pensar o mal enquanto fenômeno político, assim como aquilo que lhe fundamenta e garante legitimidade. O fio condutor deste artigo são as obras Origens do Totalitarismo (ARENDT, 2018) e o conjunto de ensaios publicados no período de 1930-54 (ARENDT, 2008). Em pleno século XXI ainda se pode (ou talvez seja imperioso) colocar a pergunta que Kant expôs no século XVIII: “vivemos atualmente numa época esclarecida?”. Para balizar as possíveis respostas, o pensamento Político de Hannah Arendt (1906-1975) possui acepções que auxiliam nesta reflexão. Segundo ela, a irreflexão, o não-pensar, permitem que ações más ocorram. E isso continua a acontecer nos mais diversos momentos: quando é negada a importância da Ciência e de seus produtos (as vacinas, por exemplo); ou ao serem (...) divulgadas notícias falsas (Fake news), entre outras. No contexto atual, então, ainda é necessário um esforço para tornar-se esclarecido, autônomo e responsável, visando a um mundo mais humano e íntegro. (shrink)

O tema central deste artigo é a persuasão e como ela aparece no pensamento político arendtiano. Nos ocuparemos desta tópica no intuito de mostrar sua fecundidade e seus limites no que concerne à esfera dos assuntos humanos. Em Arendt, as reflexões sobre a persuasão são suscitadas em referência à atividade política do discurso e ao papel da argumentação persuasiva. Nossa aposta é que uma investigação acerca das nuances da persuasão em Arendt comporta duas direções distintas e, portanto, assumiremos duas linhas (...) de pensamento que nos possibilitarão uma incursão neste debate. Com efeito, examinaremos a perspectiva arendtiana no que concerne à persuasão, por um lado, quando o tema aparece na recuperação da experiência da _polis_ grega, por outro, quando ele é tangenciado pelo relato do julgamento de Adolf Eichmann. Isto posto, nossa principal pretensão é explorar como a questão da persuasão é formulada de maneira contrastante no pensamento arendtiano. Para tanto, a modulação constitutiva do debate será demonstrada a partir de considerações pontuais no tocante à presença da persuasão em dois espaços de natureza pública, quais sejam, a _ágora_ grega e o tribunal. O objetivo deste artigo é a análise das críticas de Hannah Arendt à concepção dos direitos humanos, introduzida pelo pensamento dos filósofos contratualistas e efetivada, politicamente, pelas revoluções americanas e francesas no final do século XVIII. Contudo, este objetivo não seria plenamente alcançado sem a avaliação da proposta de Arendt para a superação de suas próprias críticas: a reconstrução dos direitos humanos através do reconhecimento que cada indivíduo tem direito a ter direitos, independente das fronteiras do Estado-nação. Arendt vai buscar (...) na moral universalista e cosmopolita kantiana o conceito de humanidade e dá a ele as dimensões ontológicas e políticas necessárias para se construir um espaço público internacional, onde o direito a ter direito seja decorrente do mero pertencimento à humanidade, não se dissolvendo nos limites de cada Estado-nação. The purpose of this article is the analysis of the criticisms of Hannah Arendt's conception of human rights, introduced by the thought of the contractual philosophers and made effective, politically, by American and French revolutions in the late eighteenth century. However, this aim would not be fully achieved without the review of Arendt's proposal to overcome her own criticisms: the reconstruction of human rights by recognizing that every individual has the right to have rights, regardless of borders of the Nation-State. Arendt tries to discover in the universal and cosmopolitan moral of Kant the concept of humanity and gives him the ontological and political dimensions needed to build an international public space where the right to have rights is due to the mere belonging to the humanity, not dissolving itself in the limits of each Nation-State. Na primeira parte procuramos mostrar como leituras importantes do pensamento kantiano sobre a história e o direito na segunda metade do século XX tenderam a um exame parcial dos textos de Jant, resultando em interpretações unilaterais. Essa unilateralidade interpretativa expressa-se tanto no privilégio de determinados aspectos da filosofia kantiana em detrimento de todos os outros, como também na simles descosideração de elementos essenciais à prióipria unidade arquitetônica. Como leitura exemplar do primeiro tipo, examinamos a interpretação de J.-F Lyotard da filosofia (...) da históra kantiana, e a leitura proposta por H. Arendt foi tomada como exemplar do segundo tipo. Na segunda parte do artigo, procuramos analisar em maiores detalhes os elementos mobilizados por essas leituras, mostrando não apenas a parcialidade das interpretações, mas também buscando rearranjar esses elementos em vista de uma interpretação - contemporânea - mais frutífera do pensamento de Kant. This article builds on Arendt’s development of a Kantian politics from out of the conception of reflective judgment in the Critique of Judgment. Arendt looks to Kant’s analysis of the beautiful to explain how political thought can be conceived. And yet Arendt describes such Kantian reflection as an empirical undertaking that justifies itself only in relation to the abstract principle of the moral law. The problem for such an account is that the autonomy of the moral law appears to be (...) at odds with the social cohesion of Kantian political life. The ensuing contradiction can be deemed the antinomy of political judgment. Kant’s conception of reflective judgment offers such an inquiry considerably more to work with than Arendt uncovers. In particular, the regulative principle of the purposiveness of nature that is shown to direct all reflection can be seen to offer the solution to this antinomy. (shrink)

Este trabalho tem por objetivo refletir sobre a emergência da modernidade, a consolidação do pensamento científico moderno e suas consequências especificamente indesejáveis no domínio da política. Para isso, baseio-me no pensamento de Hannah Arendt. Arendt destaca três eventos como os principais precursores da era moderna: a exploração dos continentes, a Reforma e a invenção e utilização do telescópio. Discuto brevemente a relação desses eventos com a alienação do mundo, tal como entendida por Arendt, e me aprofundo nas novidades relativas à (...) ciência. Menciono Galileu e a revolução copernicana, o método experimental e quantitativo, o papel da fabricação de instrumentos na produção do conhecimento, o critério avaliativo de sucesso prático e o raciocínio lógico-matemático como elementos que passam a moldar a atividade científica. A partir daí, destaco a tendência, descrita por Arendt, do pensamento científico moderno em abarcar os mais diversos campos da vida cotidiana, especialmente seu âmbito público. Concluo destacando o modo como o pensamento cientificista – que possui características próprias do homo faber – mina a possibilidade de ação quando adentra a esfera política. Na medida em que “ser livre e agir é a mesma coisa”, impede também a manifestação da liberdade. Mais do que isso, abordo como o cientificismo vai à contramão da pluralidade, da singularidade e da espontaneidade humanas. Os governos totalitários e as sociedades de consumo são exemplos extremos e reais do que a racionalidade do homo faber pode fazer quando substitui o campo da ação. Abstract: Kant and Arendt on Barbaric and Totalitarian Evil -/- This paper starts by sketching Kant’s four ideal legal and political conditions—'anarchy,’ ‘despotism,’ ‘republic,’ and ‘barbarism’—before showing their usefulness for analyzing different political forces that may operate in any given society. Contrary to the common tendency in political philosophy to view our societies as either in the so-called ‘state of nature’ (‘anarchy’) or in ‘civil society’ (‘republic’), I propose that we might find ourselves in societies where aspects or ‘pockets’ of (...) our lives are subject to any one of these (anarchic, despotic, republican, and barbaric) political forces. I then combine Kant’s ideas on barbaric evil with Arendt’s ideas on totalitarian evil, which gives us a four-fold conception of political evil. This fourfold distinction is then used to identify some types and patterns of destructive political forces as they occur in actual, historical societies, such as racist, sexist, or heterosexist violence and oppression. En este artículo se argumenta que el poder de juzgar es una capacidad fundamental para pensar la política. La relevancia de tal capacidad radica en que la estructura y función de los juicios reflexionantes, tal como son leídos por hannah Arendt a partir de la Crítica del Juicio kantiana, nos permiten explicar el difícil equilibrio entre los juicios compartidos en las comunidades y la posibilidad de la crítica.

Blaise Pascal's significant legacy to the French Enlightenment is well known. Voltaire dedicates the 25th of his Philosophical Letters to him; Diderot mentions him indirectly, but unequivocally, in the title of his first speculative writing, Philosophical Thoughts (1745). In Rousseau's case, the controversy with the Archbishop of Beaumont exposes what separates him from Jansenism - but also what links him to Pascal, namely the use of dualistic categories such as nature and history, principle and process, being and ought to be. (...) In turn, Rousseau was taken by Kant as the "Newton of morality" as early as the 1760s. In this article, I intend to examine whether there are conceptual elements common to Pascal, Rousseau and Kant around the dual conception they adopt to characterize the human condition and its relationship with praxis. This paper intends to investigate in Hannah Arendt's last work The Life of the Mind the relationship between thinking and action, which is in the origin of the conflict between philosophy and politics and has influenced the whole philosophical tradition. Arendt aims to show that these two activities are not by themselves incompatible with each other, as this tradition made efforts to establish, but they have become so through the "professional" philosophical use of thinking.Este artigo trata do relacionamento entre pensamento (...) e ação na obra final de Hannah Arendt, A vida do espírito, que se encontra, segundo ela, na origem do conflito entre filosofia e política e teve influência sobre toda a tradição filosófica. This paper considers why obtaining and sustaining a good sexual life tends to be so challenging and why the temptation to settle for a bad one can be so alluring. We engage these questions by cultivating ideas found in the traditions of feminist philosophy and the philosophy of sex and love in dialogue with the works of two unlikely, canonical bedfellows—Immanuel Kant and Hannah Arendt. We propose that some sources of these challenges and temptations are patterned and manifold in that (...) they involve trying to transform, develop, integrate certain unruly emotional structures in oneself, including together with others. Other equally patterned and unruly sources track inherited oppressive or oppressed behaviors and feelings that make emotionally healthy, morally responsible realizations of sexual ways and being more difficult for all parties involved. In contrast to these patterned challenges, some difficulties that face us stem from the fact that humans are genuinely different from one another and evolving—individually, jointly, and collectively—in their sexual needs and wants. This article introduces a critical commentary to Hannah Arendt’s interpretation of Kant in her Lectures on Kant’s Political Philosophy. The author follows the scheme of what Arendt considers the three Kantian human perspectives: man as a rational being, man as an animal species, and man as a synthesis of the rational and the sensitive. Arendt’s research focuses on the contribution that the Kantian theory of the reflexive judgment can bring to a political theory, following the distinction between actor and spectator.

Hannah Arendt's political philosophy, focused on her works "The Human Condition", "Origins of Totalitarianism" and "Eichmann in Jerusalem", provides a theoretical framework for understanding the shattering and reconstruction of the public sphere in the face of the totalitarian experiences of the 20th century. The aim of this research is to present a legal-philosophical analysis of the trials of the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg and Adolf Eichmann in Jerusalem, revealing Arendt's perceptions of the public sphere as a space of plurality, (...) reconciling it with responsibility and justice in the protection of human dignity. Finally, we discuss the consequences for the creation of the International Criminal Court as a permanent criminal institution. (shrink)

This chapter draws attention to some deep points of philosophical connection between Arendt’s Lectures and Kant’s own and contemporary Kantian legal and political writings in the English-speaking world today. The aim is not to convince as such, but to show ways to bridge these historical divisions such that we can utilize these important works left us in the philosophical canon as we strive to improve our understanding of politics generally and the particular political challenges facing us. Arendt’s reading of Kant’s aesthetics as political theory has proven contentious, as exegesis regarding the Critique of the Power of Judgment and still more as description of the concerns and norms of political action. Although Arendt’s politicisation of aesthetics is more fraught than she at times admits (but less reckless than some of her critics maintain while also more anarchic than some of her defenders acknowledge), I argue her insight into the republican promise of the model of non–conformist sociability that (...) Kant discerns among aesthetic judges is worth securing. Arendt appeals to Kant’s sensus communis, pure aesthetic judgement, impure aesthetic judgement and works of art in order to make sense of a mode of political sociability that avoids both atomisation and uniformity. For Arendt, the various ways political history and philosophy have conceived political bodies have been less adroit at preserving the openness of the political than Kant’s aesthetic community. This paper shows ways to develop, integrate, and transform Kant’s and Arendt’s theories on political evil into a unified Karendtian theory. Given the deep influence Kant had on Arendt’s thinking, the deep philosophical compatibility between their projects is not surprising. But the results of drawing on the resources left by both is exciting and groundbreaking with regard to both political evil in general and the challenges of modernity and totalitarianism in particular.

In this paper, I examine Hannah Arendt’s notion of “enlarged mentality.” I use a close textual exposition of enlarged mentality in Arendt’s writings in order to offer an interpretation of Denktagebuch Notebook XXII, in which Arendt initially sketched her political interpretation of the Critique of Judgment. I maintain that a close examination of enlarged mentality—particularly as it appears in Arendt’s notebooks—answers basic questions about Arendt’s appropriation of Kant’s third Critique that have eluded scholarly commentators. In this paper, I seek to (...) answer one such question: why did Arendt turn to Kant’s Critique of Judgment? I argue that in turning to Kant for a model of political judgment Arendt took herself to be correcting methodological inconsistencies that she believed she located in the Critique of Judgment. Kant’s famous motto of enlightenment, “Sapere aude!”, is inseparably entwined with the demand for the “public use of reason”. There is no doubt that this also embraces the notion of a free and unrestricted exchange of ideas and indicates the potential beginning of a process in which “subjects” of the state and passive citizens are capable of developing into citizens of the world, and in which nation states are capable of developing into a kind of world community. This conception of (...) the public sphere also receives further concrete articulation in Kant’s Critique of Judgement, as Hannah Arendt already clearly recognized. In particular, the doctrine of reflective judgement, which is developed in that work, also allows us to derive several critical insights from Kant’s conception of enlightenment and the public sphere which are highly relevant to the contemporary intercultural discussion regarding the issue of the “Public Sphere”. H. Arendt developed largely her hermeneutical interpretation of understanding in line with the rethinking of I. Kant’s philosophical heritage. Although she was able to offer a rather original interpretation of the theoretical views of the great German philosopher, her hermeneutic strategy was also influenced by the approaches to their understanding that were proposed by her teachers M. Heidegger and K. Jaspers. Arendt’s hermeneutical teaching proceeds from the need to realize the close unity of practical action and spiritual activity of the (...) human subject - Vita Activa and Vita Contemplativa. Accepting the initial position of Heidegger’s metaphysics of finiteness about the “abandonment” of man in the flow of time, Arendt simultaneously follows Jaspers’ call for the need for an existential-hermeneutic interpretation of practical action and the abilities of the spirit by their understanding on the basis of Kant’s legacy. Singling out thinking, will and judgement among the main vectors of self-realization of the spirit, she demonstrates their close relationship with the main types of practical human activity - work, work and action. Analyzing the abilities of the spirit, Arendt emphasizes the major role of thinking, which brings together the processes of knowledge acquisition and meaning creation. It highlights the primacy of the meaning-producing function of the reason in relation to the ability of the intellect to generate true knowledge on the basis of generalization of the data of contemplation. Describing thinking after Kant as a “thing in itself”, Arendt speaks of its involvement in eternity and time in the moment of the present, the ability to generalize the past and design the future. Thinking forms the core of practical reason, which Kant identified with the will, and opens a new horizon of meaning generation in its aspiration to the future. The ability to judge also turns out to be a product of thinking, referring to the past while relying on common sense and imagination. Arendt rightly argues that the “paralysis” of the faculty of judgement, indicating the significance of Kant’s categorical imperative, threatens not only to produce a distorted vision of history, but also the triumph of the “banality of evil” in the sphere of politics. This paper offers a restatement of the basic project of Hannah Arendt's Lectures on Kant's Political Philosophy, tries to trace its theoretical motivation, and presents some criticisms of Arendt's interpretation of Kant's Critique of Judgment. Arendt's political philosophy as a whole is an attempt to ground the idea of human dignity on the publicly displayed 'words and deeds' that con stitute the realm of human affairs. This project involves a philo sophical response both to Plato's impugning of the dignity of (...) the polis and to Hegel's founding of modern historicism. The Kant Lectures bring this philosophical project to its completion because the enact ment of public deeds presupposes a company of judging spectators who draw meaning from the spectacle by judging and appreciating what is enacted. But this conception, precisely because it relates so deeply to Arendt's own theoretical impulse, leads to a sometimes onesided and misleading reading of Kant. Lectures on Kant’s Political Philosophy is the go-to text for readers interested in Hannah Arendt’s theory of judgment. Arendt’s discussion of Kantian aesthetic judgments of taste is typically associated with her own view. However, readers who find her interpretation idiosyncratic, if not wrongheaded, distinguish the author of the Critique of Judgment from Arendt’s Kant. Rather than debate who got Kant ‘right’, this essay explores what Arendt discovered about judging politically by reading Kant in her own Arendtian way. Judgment was present (...) early in her political thinking, for judgment deals with the particular and ‘the problem of the new’. As such, judgment concerns the realm of human affairs that the Western philosophical tradition has found unworthy of serious study due to its ever-changing and contingent nature. Beholden to the standards set by philosophy, political thought has been unable to make sense of its subject matter, which is action and ‘men in the plural’. Clarifying what it means to judge politically was crucial to Arendt’s lifelong effort to disentangle politics from philosophy and its focus on ‘Man in the singular’. (shrink)

This book analyzes how the public character of judgments of taste makes implicit statements in moral and political philosophy. The author regards Friedrich Schiller's and Hannah Arendt's approaches on the normative resources of Kant's aesthetics for moral and political thought.

The paper reads Kant’s notion of radical evil as anticipating and clarifying problematic aspects of what Arendt called ‘the banality of evil’. By reconstructing Arendt’s varied analyses of this notion throughout her later writings, I show that the main theoretical challenge posed by it concerns the adjudication of responsibility for evil deeds that seem to lack recognisable evil intentions. In order to clarify this issue, I turn to a canonical text in which the relationship between evil and responsibility plays a (...) central role: Kant’s Religion within the Boundaries of Mere Reason. Relying on an interpretation of this writing by Arendt’s mentor Karl Jaspers published in 1935, in evident connection to National Socialism, I challenge Arendt’s own interpretation of Kant’s notion of radical evil, which, I argue, represents an antecedent, rather than a contrast, to ‘the banality of evil’. Para Arendt existem caminhos que podem apontar e conduzir à solidão, e que devem ser vigiados e evitados. The result of Hannah Arendt’s study of bourgeois revolutions reflects not only the contradictions and dichotomies of her thought, but is an important diagnosis of the impact of liberal policies, their contradictions and evolution within the history of democracy. Modern republicanism, although critical of liberalism, assimilated elements inherent to liberal democracy, for example, the importance of the law, always imputed based on ideological political precepts of its time. The relevance of this analysis allows us not only to understand the bases (...) of the philosopher’s political thought, but its development in what she calls: public space. This must be a place for the expression of opinions, and therefore, for Arendt, without plurality, politics and public freedom are compromised to the extent that they make it impossible to maintain a space for the realization of freedom. However, in an unequal world, who can exercise their citizenship freely in public space? Was the liberal promise capable of providing these guarantees? In dialogue with Habermas and beyond, we intend with this investigation to outline the weaknesses of a bourgeois notion of the public sphere and to enunciate the urgency of building an ideal of republicanism based on popular demands. Este trabalho se situa na interface entre a Filosofia Política e a Psicanálise, sendo seu objetivo investigar o conceito de nacionalismo, contrapondo-o ao de pluralidade, enquanto uma condição do humano, tomando como fundo os processos identificatórios. Para desenvolver o objetivo proposto, nos debruçamos sobre a obra de Hannah Arendt, visando os conceitos de nacionalismo e pluralidade, bem como compreender o modo como tais conceitos compuseram o pensamento de sua filosofia política. Dentro deste contexto, os conceitos de massa e identificação foram (...) costurados à discussão, já que uma massa é liderada por um líder com quem os indivíduos que a compõem estabelecem uma forte relação de identificação. Neste aspecto, a teoria freudiana colaborou com os conceitos de massa e identificação. Ao longo deste trabalho, foi desenvolvida a hipótese de que o nacionalismo consiste em uma estratégia política de cunho psicológico: uma pretensa promessa de união, de pertencimento, de unidade social e interna. Esta é uma pesquisa, em sua íntegra, teórica e bibliográfica. Como resultado, vimos que a interface entre a Filosofia e a Psicanálise se revelou como um campo frutífero para a abordagem do fenômeno do nacionalismo, no contexto da atual política contemporânea nacional. This article is the result of a bibliographic and hermeneutic investigation. In the light of Hannah Arendt's thought, the writing thematizes the representativeness of the conception of human plurality present in the reflections of Socrates and Plato. First, it investigates how the conception of plurality is present in the thought of Socrates, considered by Arendt, a political philosopher par excellence and the one who established plurality as the law of the Earth. Therefore, the conception of plurality manifested in Plato's reflections (...) is analyzed and, mainly, some of the consequences resulting from Socrates' condemnation and death. We consider this confrontation essential to recover and/or point out the importance of plurality in spaces of social participation, accomplishing with others what certainly could not be done alone and/or isolated. Plurality is, therefore, composed of singularities, and the fact that we are together with other singular beings is what impels us to communicate with each other. (shrink)

Este texto reflete sobre o constructo teórico de massas e a concepção de homem massa como fundantes e estruturais na compreensão dos totalitarismos nazista e stalinista, presentes na obra Origens do Totalitarismo (ARENDT, 1989) de Hannah Arendt. Conclui-se que o totalitarismo é uma organização de massa, que possui características específicas e que as massas são manipuláveis a partir de determinados aspectos específicos dos movimentos totalitários. Analisa-se o que é homem de massa e como tal concepção é fundamental para compreender outros (...) conceitos importantes da pensadora política. Assim, a partir das reflexões aqui desenvolvidas, torna-se possível incrementar novas perspectivas nas análises de conceitos como totalitarismo, banalidade do mal, política, poder, violência, amplamente estudados e debatidos não só na filosofia, como nas ciências sociais, ciências políticas, psicologia, estudos organizacionais e administração. As reflexões aqui propostas permitem também fazer paralelos com a realidade atual, levando em consideração, obviamente, o cuidado de evitar anacronismos analíticos. (shrink)

Este artigo propõe uma reflexão acerca do domínio da arte na perspectiva de Hannah Arendt. A partir da análise do pensamento da autora, de seus esforços em problematizar a relação dos homens com o âmbito da arte e das inúmeras vezes em que convoca produções artísticas para examinar a experiência humana no mundo, vislumbra-se identificar as especificidades atribuídas por ela às linguagens artísticas, bem como compreender a relevância da arte na constituição de um legado humano material, imaterial e simbólico, um (...) mundo de significados compartilhados.Palavras-chave: Domínio da arte. Este artigo tem como objetivo fazer uma leitura do conceito de liberdade no pensamento de Hannah Arendt a partir da noção de aparência. Para tanto, explico a distinção pela qual a autora entende a originariedade e especificidade da liberdade política frente à liberdade interior (do pensamento e/ou da vontade) e à libertação. Em seguida, desenvolvo o argumento de que o aparecer da liberdade pública possui uma relação de coorigenariedade à política. Nessa perspectiva, o que se destaca é a performatividade da (...) liberdade humana, elemento que remete à virtù maquiaveliana e que confere à liberdade uma dimensão política própria. Se depreende, assim, que o sentido da ação política livre não está subjugado a finalidades ou a causas, mas, sim, à sua própria execução. A liberdade ganha uma dimensão de dignidade mundana e afirma a glória e beleza do agir: a pluralidade humana emerge como condição não apenas da política, mas da liberdade, haja vista sua realização estar intrinsecamente ligada à ação humana plural junto a um mundo comum. Neste artigo, abordamos a diferenciação entre trabalho e obra no pensamento de Hannah Arendt, que, embora pareçam para a modernidade conceitos similares ou até idênticos, para a filósofa esta diferenciação é crucial para uma abordagem crítica necessária da condição humana durante e após o século XX. Isto posto, expomos o conceito marxista de trabalho e a posterior crítica feita por Arendt para construir o seu pensamento político acerca da humanidade no pós-guerra.

Nos últimos anos, a pesquisa em torno do pensamento arendtiano tem buscado explicitar a existência de elementos biopolíticos, mesmo que estes não apareçam no interior de seu pensamento de maneira evidente. Para tanto, se tem procurado, fundamentalmente, em A condição humana, conceitos biopolíticos que colocariam Arendt no rol daqueles que na modernidade lançaram luz sobre a biologização da política e o esvaziamento da esfera pública. Também acreditamos que há, no interior das reflexões arendtianas, elementos biopolíticos. Contudo, nosso objetivo é demonstrar (...) que é na descrição do ponto central da política que está uma das chaves de leitura de uma biopolítica arendtiana. Sustentaremos nossa hipótese a partir da assertiva arendtiana, contida em seu texto O que é Política?, na qual a autora diz que “no ponto central da política está sempre a preocupação com o mundo e não com o homem”. Afirmar que o ponto central da política é cuidar do mundo e não dos homens problematiza dois aspectos: o risco que há em não se cuidar do mundo e a compreensão da política enquanto instância preservadora da vida, pois eleger a vida como fundamento da política significa subtrair a liberdade pela necessidade no interior das ações humanas. O VÍNCULO ENTRE NACIONALIDADE E DIREITOS HUMANOS: UMA ANÁLISE DA APATRIDIA À LUZ DO PENSAMENTO DE HANNAH ARENDT.

This paper examines the relation between intuition and concept in Kant in light of John McDowell’s neo-Kantian position that intuitions are concept-laden. 2 The focus is on Kant’s twofold pronouncement that thoughts without content are empty and that intuitions without concepts are blind. I show that intuitions as singular representations are not instances of passive data intake but the result of synthetic unification of the given manifold of the senses by the power of the imagination under the guidance of the (...) understanding.
