El cine es una forma de expresión artística de múltiples y complejas posibilidades. Una de ellas es la de brindar los espacios para la sensibilización por ciertos aspectos de la realidad, otorgando en muchos casos un rostro humano a los temas filosóficos. Usando un término de Daniel Dennett, propongoen las líneas siguientes, al séptimo arte como un generador de intuiciones éticas, un medio que puede propiciar y hacer más profundas e integrales las reflexiones propias de la filosofía moral. Este particular (...) nexo entre cine y filosofía se da a partir de otras relaciones involucradas en el proceso, como lo son la del autor con el espectador, ficción con realidad y la de nuestras facultades racionales con las emocionales. The emotive-rational powers of cinemaCinema is an art form of many and complex possibilities. One of these possibilities is to provide people with spaces to create awareness of certain aspects of reality, in many cases giving a human face to philosophical issues. In the following lines, I would like to present the art of cinema as a generator of ethical intuitions and a medium that can foster and deepen comprehensive reflections of our own moral philosophy, by simply using a term created by Daniel Dennett. This particular link between cinema and philosophy is given by other relationships involved in the process, such as the author - viewer, the reality - fiction and the one that involves our rational and emotional faculties. The notion of conceptual space, proposed by Gärdenfors as a framework for the representation of concepts and knowledge, has been highly influential over the last decade or so. One of the main theses involved in this approach is that the conceptual regions associated with properties, concepts, verbs, etc. are convex. The aim of this paper is to show that such a constraint—that of the convexity of the geometry of conceptual regions—is problematic; both from a theoretical perspective and with regard to (...) the inner workings of the theory itself. On the one hand, all the arguments provided in favor of the convexity of conceptual regions rest on controversial assumptions. Additionally, his argument in support of a Euclidean metric, based on the integral character of conceptual dimensions, is weak, and under non-Euclidean metrics the structure of regions may be non-convex. Furthermore, even if the metric were Euclidean, the convexity constraint could be not satisfied if concepts were differentially weighted. On the other hand, Gärdenfors’ convexity constraint is brought into question by the own inner workings of conceptual spaces because: some of the allegedly convex properties of concepts are not convex; the conceptual regions resulting from the combination of convex properties can be non-convex; convex regions may co-vary in non-convex ways; and his definition of verbs is incompatible with a definition of properties in terms of convex regions. Therefore, the mandatory character of the convexity requirement for regions in a conceptual space theory should be reconsidered. (shrink)

El reclutamiento de esclavos y libertos en las milicias, guerrillas y ejércitos conformados durante las guerras de Independencia fue un fenómeno creciente tanto en las filas de las fuerzas realistas como en la de los patriotas. Ambos prometieron a los reclutas con ese estatus social la libertad por su servicio militar, pero el Ejército libertador le sumó al hecho de ser personas libres la ciudadanía. A Mesoamérica, área cultural onde surgiu uma das poucas civilizações prístinas, tem como um dos elementos mais idiossincráticos a forma particular como lê o tempo. A face mais visível dessa realidade é a existência de um calendário de 260 dias e o modo como este se articula com os demais calendários. Esse processo contribui para conformar a sociedade enquanto tal e articulá-la com a visão que esta tem de si própria e do papel que desempenha num cosmos que a transcende. (...) Hace treinta años apareció un libro que estaba destinado a tener un gran impacto: Descartes’ Error. Su autor era Antonio Damasio (1994) y, tras su aparición en inglés, se sucedieron tanto las críticas, positivas en su mayor parte, como las traducciones que incluyeron la de lengua castellana. Cuatro años después, en 1999, la revista Enrahonar publicó un número especial dedicado al filósofo francés, festejando con algo de retraso el haberse cumplido cuatrocientos años desde su nacimiento en 1596. En el homenaje (...) de Enrahonar apareció un artículo que repasaba la lectura de Descartes por parte de Damasio. Volvamos ahora, aprovechando parte de lo escrito desde entonces, sobre las claves que nos proporcionan las neurociencias hoy día acerca de la relación entre mente y cerebro que comenzó a sopesar Descartes. This paper discuss the relations between the conception of freedom of press and the construction of a professional identity on journalism. As a departure point, we do bibliographical revision of the press freedom definition as it was initially elaborated by Illuminist philosophers. After that, we investigate how such concepts integrate journalists’ self- legitimating discourse and also how it participates on the construction of their identity.

Qual é a utilidade da filosofia na sala de aula? Que utilidade tem a filosofia em nossa vida? A filosofia parece ser não apenas desnecessária para o bem viver, como incompatível com a idéia de uma vida tranqüila. Mas ela é importante na sala de aula e na nossa vida porque nos ajuda a refletir e a reflexão, por sua vez, nos possibilita a agir com liberdade de escolha. Assim, a filosofia nos ajuda a ser livre.

Recently, Casasanto and Lupyan (2015) have asserted that there are no context-independent concepts: all concepts are constructed ad hoc when they are instantiated. My aim is to show that the ad hoc cognition framework can be characterized by a similarity-based theory of concepts, and that two different notions of concept should be distinguished —which may be identified with two distinct stages of their life cycle (storage and instantiation). This approach brings together virtues from opposing views: (a) invariantist: stored concepts are (...) stable enough to collect new information; (b) contextualist: instantiated concepts are context-dependent, what explains our adaptive ability to changing environments. Globalization may bring indigenous cultures to their death and cause national individualism to disappear into a shapeless muddle. On Americanism, Heidegger declared that it was “the future monstrosity of modern times.” This would be homogenization, the rubbing out of cultural specificity, life in one universe, one dimension. Extremists like Alexandre Kohève take it further still. It would be the (...) end of history. Third world nations, particularly the Caribbean countries, would be predesignated victims of such an order, without power in political or economic realms, only making the front page of newspapers during cataclysm and natural catastrophes like Hugo, George, and Mitch. The tiny island of Montserrat, never before known to the West, rose to international fame when its volcano La Soufrière began to erupt. La figura de Medea, mujer y extranjera, es el hilo conductor que trata de ofrecer un análisis sobre la pasión de la ira desde la tradición clásica, que la rechaza como pasión destructiva, hasta la apropiación realizada por el feminismo negro norteamericano de Lorde. Ambas iras tendrán algo en común: Audre Lorde hablará de la rabia por la misoginia, homofobia y racismo sufrido y en Medea habrá ira por la misoginia y xenofobia de la época. Para ello en primer lugar (...) el artículo analiza el vocabulario relacionado con la cólera y la ira tanto en griego y en latín. A partir de ahí desarrollan dos hilos. En el primero se ofrece la lectura tradicional del mito de la Medea infanticida que es la que se encuentra en la tragedia de Séneca y que se relacionada con su tratado filosófico _Sobre la ira_. De ese modo se convierte a Medea en _exemplum e contrario_ y contraimagen del sabio estoico. En el segundo se recupera la otra tradición del mito según la cual Medea no fue la que mató a sus hijos sino los corintios. Este segundo hilo del enfoque clásico de la ira para mostrar su validez como herramienta de cambio. (shrink)

ResumenEste estudio ofrece una presentación del trabajo de investigación desarrollado en una tesis doctoral sobre el problema de la conciencia del tiempo en la fenomenología de Husserl defendida en la Universidad de Barcelona en abril del 2007. El objetivo de este artículo es aclarar la crítica que el psicoanalista Jacques Lacan dirige al concepto marxista de plus-valía tal y como es formulado en el Capital de Marx. Tras el concepto de una plus-valía contable Lacan quiere desvelar la necesidad de atender a la noción más fundamental de un plus-de-gozar [plus-de-jouir] incontable. Atenderemos para ello a diferentes pasajes de sus seminarios XVI (1968-69), XVII (1969-70) y de su texto Radiofonía (1970).

Ernesto Laclau’s theory of hegemony interprets in a peculiar way two central concepts of Lacanian psychoanalysis: the signifier and the real. Laclau maintains that signifiers are per se tendentially empty and that there is some constituting impossibility in every social system, that is, some real in the Lacanian sense. This paper levels two criticisms at this interpretation. Firstly, Lacan never employs the concept “empty signifier”: His definition of the signifier as that which represents a subject—and his enjoyment—for another signifier contradicts (...) this emptiness. Secondly, in the place of the impossible, Lacan puts enjoyment. The main political consequence of these two considerations is that the theory of hegemony is mistaken when focusing on the rhetorical debate and forgets that individual political inclinations are based mainly on their enjoyment. Recently, Casasanto and Lupyan (2015) have proposed an appealing and daring thesis: there are no context-independent concepts—that is, all concepts are ad hoc concepts. They argue that the seeming stability of concepts is merely due to commonalities across their different instantiations but that, in fact, there is nothing invariant in them. In their view, concepts only exist when they are instantiated for categorizing, communicating, drawing inferences, etc., and those instantiations are produced on the fly from a set of contextual cues. (...) However, the main weakness of Casasanto and Lupyan’s framework is that it lacks a proposal for articulating it within a theory on the structure of concepts. My aim is to show that the ad hoc cognition framework can be characterized by means of a prototype theory of concepts developed in terms of a conceptual similarity space. (shrink)

De esta manera, Schelling no deja (...) de ser un “vástago” del Pantheismusstreit de Mendelssohn y Jacobi: una polémica cuyo fantasma, personificado por Schlegel, aparecerá entre las páginas del Freiheitsschrift. The article brings up an analysis of the notion of the Real and the notion of Reality in contemporary thought in order to show the influence and relevance of the concept of “Grund” and “Remainder” by Schelling in ŽiŽek. The paper proposes from Schelling´s perspective a reading of something “which does not exist, [but] continues to insist” that explains the conformation of Real and reality and reality and simulacrum.

El presente trabajo trata de abordar la forma testimonial de Ernst Jünger de dar cuenta de la historia con el propósito, en primer lugar, de indagar en el sentido que tiene para el autor alemán la experiencia de la catástrofe, la guerra y el dolor y, en segundo lugar, de explicar los elementos constitutivos de su particular concepto de historia.

En este artículo propongo una lectura de los Naufragios de Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca que se ciña a los términos del debate moral y político imperante en la España en que el explorador jerezano redactó su historia. A la luz de la Relectio prior de Indis recenter inventis de Francisco de Vitoria, se comprueba cómo el bagaje espiritual e ideológico de Cabeza de Vaca no fue fruto exclusivo de su periplo americano, sino más bien de su familiaridad con las (...) coordenadas éticas propias de la España oficial de su tiempo: la que puso los cimientos de una incipiente legalidad internacional. En su artículo “Towards a Genealogy of Thomas Kuhn’s Semantics” (2023), Pablo Melogno aborda, junto a Leandro Giri, la tarea de reconstruir el camino recorrido por Thomas Kuhn en el desarrollo de una semántica capaz de dar cuenta del cambio científico. En particular, los autores examinan las conexiones existentes entre las Conferencias Lowell de 1951 y las Conferencias Notre Dame de 1980, afirmando que ambas responden a un mismo programa de inquietudes semánticas que permite realizar una lectura continuista del pensamiento (...) kuhniano en lo referente a cuestiones de tipo semántico. El presente artículo pretende extender este análisis a La Estructura de las Revoluciones Científicas (1962), resaltando los paralelismos que pueden establecerse entre esta obra y las Conferencias Lowell en lo que respecta a determinados aspectos lingüísticos que forman parte del cambio científico, mediante el análisis de las partes concernientes a esta temática presentes en ambos escritos. The Platonic myth in Book X of The Republic tells us how the choice of “destinies” is carried out by human souls about to be born. The revenant Er, in his particular nekia, returns to life to tell all he has seen and heard: that what life bring us is related to the good or bad choice of our future life trough a draw carried out under the eyes of Necessity and her three daughters: Lachesis, Clotho and Atropo, who weave (...) the destiny of men (The Republic, Book X, 617e): Theintelligible character of this choice has the burden of a determinism ab origine without possibility of rewriting it, making our fate an inalterable journey. Kant could say the same in KrV, although it is true that the doctrine of the “intelligible character” only appears specifically in 1781, in the light of the Third Antinomies, in the“Dialectic” of the Critique of Pure Reason. Anyway, its long shadow appears in other texts (as in Religion Within Limits of Reason Alone of 1793)– that each one of voluntary acts of men: “it is predetermined, well before it occurs, in the empirical character of man” (KrV, A 553 / B 581) would suppose that this intelligiblecharacter would have to be understood together with the problem of freedom and decision. That threshold pointed out by Kant will be trespassed by Schelling, who will form a concept of freedom of a metaphysical character (libertas ex) which will send us to an origin, beyond all times, in which the de-cision, as ex-cision, restructures and sets in order our time. Cut or beginning, it is a wound without stitches which implies the proper opening of being into existence. (shrink)

Resumen En el año 2022 se celebra el 1900 aniversario de la visita del emperador Adriano a Hispania. La bibliografía científica ya ha estudiado este acontecimiento, aclarando muchos de los sucesos, la identidad de algunos de los personajes que pudieron venir con el Príncipe y las actuaciones de éste en la península Ibérica. En algunos casos, los testimonios conocidos no permiten una datación que los sitúe durante la presencia imperial en el territorio. Quedan también algunas incógnitas, como el verdadero recorrido (...) de su viaje. Este trabajo tiene un doble objetivo: hacer un estado de la cuestión sobre la visita e identificar los preparativos que se hicieron en Hispania ante el anuncio de un viaje de Adriano. Las iniciativas parecen haber afectado a las tres provincias, que se habrían preparado para la estancia o incluso para el posible paso de la comitiva por sus territorios, aunque en muchos casos esto no llegara a ocurrir. It is untrue that, as Hegel said in 1807 in the Phänomenologie, «the wounds of the spirit heal and leave no scar behind; what is done is not indelible, but is reassumed by the spirit» (GW 9, 360) since the ground of reality, that reality which, as indicated by Kant, seems to be submerged in evil (Ak. VI), refuses to be tamed by concepts. Disappearance without remnant, that dissolution (Verschwindung) mentioned by Hegel would suppose that there is no remnant of (...) evil, thatits effects in history-such as the Jacobin terror with its macabre liturgy of severed heads referred to in the above passage of the Phänomenologieare nothing more than moments to be sublate (aufgehoben), part of a necessary process. There is no remnant to be explained. All is revealed: Offenbarung der Tiefe. The relationship between Hegel and Schelling has in this topic, the problem of evil and its meaning in history (Geschichte), one of its key points: in Schelling one can see a hollow which constitutes a pathway to the problem of finitude and evil, studied in depth in the Freiheitsschrift of 1809, partly as a response to the critics expressed by Hegel in the Phänomenologie. While Hegel reduced evil to an abstract negation, to be overcome through a determinated negation as a sign ofthe reason in history, in Schelling evil would remain a permanent possibility that can never be dissolved (verschwinden) or overcome (aufgehoben) any way.
