: Usually, when studying schematism we devote almost exclusive attention to the study of the modifications that the categories suffer when combined with time. Instead, we have focused our attention on the determinations that time receives when combined with the categories. Departing from the definition of the transcendental schemata as “determinations of time”, an attempt is made to establish the various determinations that time receives from each one of the categories, as these perform the determination of time in schematism. The (...) categories of quantity allow us to think of time as a series of homogeneous unities; the categories of quality show each instant of time as a receptacle able to receive the different intensities of the real; the categories of relation establish a rule-dependent order on the flow of time; finally, the categories of modality determine the whole of time forming a collective unity that gathers or embraces each one of the instants of time preserving its specificity. The subject matter of the article is the concept of “the real use of reason” alluded to by Kant in Critique of Pure Reason A299/b355 and in A305/b362. After comparing it with the “real use of understanding” examined in De mundi sensibilis and in the Critique of Pure Reason, the real use of reason is presented as a legitimate and useful performance that should be distinguished from the deceiving illusion induced by an appearance generated by reason itself. En la Antropología, en la sección referida a las facultades cognoscitivas superiores, se presenta la sagacidad como el don de la indagación. Con eso se indica que tiene un lugar en la investigación científica. En nuestro trabajo examinamos la función que se puede atribuir a la sagacidad en el método de investigación. La presencia de la sagacidad en un investigador es contingente, pero se la puede considerar como una condición que determina el alcance del método y sus límites. También determina (...) algunas características de los resultados de una investigación. Por eso, sugerimos que la sagacidad es una condición accesoria del método. La inteligencia personal del científico resulta así un elemento decisivo en la investigación, tanto en el planteo de los fines de ésta, como en el progreso del trabajo, y especialmente en las fases de diseño, de invención y de descubrimiento. German words ending in ›-nis‹ can have either the female or the neutral gender. As is well known, in his Cri-tique of Pure Reason as well as in other writings, Kant often shifts from the neuter to the feminine for words having the mentioned ending, without thereby leading to a difference in meaning. However, in German the word »know-ledge« does not only have an epistemological meaning, but a legal sense as well. It has the meaning of »arbitration award, a judge (...) ́s deci-sion, verdict«. In the present article I try to prove that Kant occassionally uses the word »knowledge« in the legal sense rather than in the epistemological sense. (shrink)

Crítica y metafísica es una compilación de artículos sobre la filosofía de Immanuel Kant, reunidos para rendir homenaje a la trayectoria de Mario Caimi en el ámbito de los estudios kantianos. Los trabajos que integran este volumen han sido elaborados por algunos de los especialistas más destacados, provenientes de distintos lugares del mundo, y abordan diversos aspectos del pensamiento de Kant. Mario Caimi (* 1947) ha sido profesor titular de filosofía moderna en la Universidad de Buenos Aires, y se desempeña (...) actualmente como Investigador superior en el Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas de la República Argentina. Es autor de numerosos trabajos sobre la filosofía de Kant, y ha traducido al español algunas de las obras más importantes del filósofo. En 2010 recibió el Kant-Preis, otorgado por la Kant-Gesellschaft, como reconocimiento a su destacada trayectoria. Crítica y metafísica ist ein Sammelband über die Philosophie Immanuel Kants, der den Werdegang Mario Caimis im Bereich der Kant-Studien würdigen möchte. Die hier gesammelten Beiträge wurden von einigen der anerkanntesten Kant-Spezialisten aus verschiedenen Ländern verfasst und behandeln diverse Aspekte des kantischen Denkens. Mario Caimi (* 1947) war Lehrstuhlinhaber für Philosophie der Neuzeit an der Universität von Buenos Aires und ist zur Zeit als investigador superior beim Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET) der Republik Argentinien tätig. Er ist Autor mehrerer Aufsätze über die Philosophie Kants und hat einige der wichtigsten Werke dieses Philosophen übersetzt. 2010 erhielt er den von der Internationalen Kant-Gesellschaft verliehenen Kant-Preis in Anerkennung seines Werdegangs. Absicht dieser Arbeit ist, den seltsamen Satz Kants zu erklären: „Gedanken ohne Inhalt sind leer“. Der Satz ist wohlbekannt; er findet sich in der Einleitung zur Transzendentalen Logik, und macht dort einen Teil eines längeren Satzes aus, dessen zweiter Halbsatz besagt: „Anschauungen ohne Begriffe sind blind.“ Es ist aber nicht unser Vorhaben, den Sinn des Satzes, sondern nur seine merkwürdige Form zu erklären. Er gehört in einen Zusammenhang, in dem die gegenseitige Bedingtheit von Sinnlichkeit und Verstand hervorgehoben wird: Keine dieser (...) Eigenschaften ist der andern vorzuziehen. Ohne Sinnlichkeit würde uns kein Gegenstand gegeben und ohne Verstand keiner gedacht werden. Gedanken ohne Inhalt sind leer, Anschauungen ohne Begriffe sind blind. Daher ist es eben so nothwendig, seine Begriffe sinnlich zu machen , als seine Anschauungen sich verständlich zu machen . Beide Vermögen oder Fähigkeiten können auch ihre Functionen nicht vertauschen. Der Verstand vermag nichts anzuschauen und die Sinne nichts zu denken. Nur daraus, daß sie sich vereinigen, kann Er|kenntniß entspringen. Diese gegenseitige Abhängigkeit wird dann in der Transzendentalen Analytik dargestellt. An der Stelle, die hier betrachtet wird, wird sie einzig als eine Voraussetzung aufgeführt, die der weiteren Erklärung bedarf. Was uns jetzt aber interessiert, ist nicht das Verhältnis von gegenseitiger Bedingtheit zwischen Anschauungen und Begriffen bzw. zwischen Sinnlichkeit und Verstand; unsere Ansprüche sind bescheidener: Wir möchten nur die merkwürdige rhetorische Struktur des ersten Halbsatzes betrachten.
