En diversos textos relacionados con la filosofía de la historia, Immanuel Kant presenta los conceptos de “naturaleza”, “destino” o “providencia” que dan sentido y finalidad a la historia de la humanidad en su conjunto. Estos textos fueron publicados durante las décadas de 1780 y 1790. El objetivo de este artículo es examinar las diferentes formas que adopta la teleología de la naturaleza en estos textos kantianos. Intentaremos mostrar las coincidencias y las diferencias entre las formas mencionadas.

The International Bill of Human Rights (IBHR) enjoys universal acclaim as the source of the best standards and definition of human rights. This paper argues that the IBHR is inspired by liberalism and harbours ambiguities that open the door to a neoliberal seizure of the rights agenda; and that this effectively destabilises the focus on the IBHR on socio-economic and community rights, and therefore its stated ideal of the equal value of all human rights. I argue that Kwame Gyekye's moderate (...) communitarian political philosophy affords a viable philosophical basis for justification of a more balanced conception of human rights than the theoretical basis of the IBHR does. En este artículo se sitúa el tema de la muerte en el contexto de la antropología filosófica de Julián Marías: así, se estudian los aspectos que conciernen al hombre, sus peligros, los elementos del morir, las interpretaciones en torno a la muerte y por último la razonabilidad de la esperanza en la vida futura.

Příspěvek se zabývá možností filozofické definice života a kritickým rozborem definice navržené Markem A. Bedauem. Podle Bedaua je vytvoření definice života nejen možné, ale i užitečné z hlediska mnoha vědních oborů. Bedau odmítá pokusy definovat život za pomoci výčtu charakteristických vlastností. Navrhuje model minimálního chemického života, který nazývá Program-Metabolism-Container model (PMC model). Ten je charakterizován jako systém tří vzájemně se podporujících prvků: 1. programu v podobě dědičné informace, 2. látkové výměny, 3. obalu, zajišťujícího izolaci systému od vnějšího prostředí a zároveň (...) identitu jednotlivého organismu. Pomocí PMC modelu minimálního chemického života lze úspěšně vyřešit otázky spjaté s charakterem a počátkem života, při jejichž řešení selhávají pokusy vycházející z jiných definic. (shrink)

The metaphysical concept of continuity is important, not least because physical continua are not known to be impossible. While it is standard to model them with a mathematical continuum based upon set-theoretical intuitions, this essay considers, as a contribution to the debate about the adequacy of those intuitions, the neglected intuition that dividing the length of a line by the length of an individual point should yield the line’s cardinality. The algebraic properties of that cardinal number are derived pre-theoretically from (...) the obvious properties of a line of points, whence it becomes clear that such a number would cohere surprisingly well with our elementary number systems.
