The subject matter of this thesis is analytic ontology. Chapters II and III deal with two versions of trope theory, or moderate nominalism; these are defined as ontologies which recognise properties and relations but no (real) universals. The key notion of both theories, trope, is characterised as an abstract particular. What the abstractness amounts to differs between the two. Yet another difference is that simplicity is an essential trait of a trope according to one theory, but not according to the (...) other. Though exact similarity is said to play an important role in both theories, as it turns out, this does not seem to be the case. The ontology dealt with in chapter IV is a mixture of moderate nominalism concerning qualities and realism concerning relations. In it, quality instances (moments) and universal relations are the ultimate constituents of the universe. While relations and moments are considered to be constituents of states of affairs, which are characterised as objects of higher orders, complexes that are objects of the first order are made up of moments on their own. Among these complexes one finds the ordinary objects. Paradoxically, although relations are necessary for the existence of complex first order objects, relations are not thought to be among the contents of these objects. The main subject of chapter V is a particular version of moderate realism; it is an ontology which is realistic in its recognition of universals and moderate in its recognition of instances of these universals. Instances combine to form complex networks. A theoretically motivated claim is that although each instance has a predicational aspect as well as a universal one, it is simple in the sense of lacking internal predicative structure; though, this claim can be called into question. Este estudo de abordagem qualitativa se insere no campo das reflexões interdisciplinares, que procura analisar os sistemas jurídicos embasando-se, especialmente, nos campos da educação, da sociologia e da filosofia. A pesquisa se apropria de revisão de literatura para as categorias de análise destacadas. Trata-se de investigar a alteridade como uma capacidade de (des)construir o direito, a partir de uma (...) educação alicerçada no cuidado com o outro, produzindo, assim, um novo direito, caracterizado por um espaço de transformação coletiva. Ever since its formative years in the USA a century ago, the discipline of education has taken an uneasy stand on its own ‘scientific’ status, not least with regard to the basic issue of the relationships between theory and practice. When a science of education was introduced as a panacea for rational planning in the fields of schooling and teacher training, general solutions on a scientific basis were to underpin efficient steering at all levels. Presently, there are signs of similar (...) approaches to science in federal policies concerned with evidence‐based educational practice in the USA. At the same time a new conception of educational science has been launched in Sweden as a means to promote more fruitful research. With the background of some striking similarities as well as differences among dominant conceptions of educational science in these varying contexts, this article aims to reconsider some basic aspects of the persistent issue of the relationships between pedagogic theory and practice. Annotated logics were introduced by V.S. Subrahmanian as logical foundations for computer programming. One of the difficulties of these systems from the logical point of view is that they are not structural, i.e., their consequence relations are not closed under substitutions. In this paper we give systems of annotated logics that are equivalent to those of Subrahmanian in the sense that everything provable in one type of system has a translation that is provable in the other. Moreover these new systems (...) are structural. We prove that these systems are weakly congruential, namely, they have an infinite system of congruence 1-formulas. Moreover, we prove that an annotated logic is algebraizable (i.e., it has a finite system of congruence formulas,) if and only if the lattice of annotation constants is finite. (shrink)

In order to understand how the logic of public management can enrich humanistic management’s practices, the current paper will analyze the managerial practices adopted by public administrations within a situation of emergency, a condition where the specific features of the public management can emerge more clearly. Specifically, it will focus on the ways in which the municipality of Bergamo (one of the hardest-hit cities) have reacted to the Covid-19 pandemic, outlining interesting managerial practices especially from the point of view of (...) Humanistic Management’s theory. Such interest resides also in the fact that although the Humanistic Management’s field of research has dealt with a wide range of topics (including human development, emancipation and progress), so far, however, it has not yet considered public administrations, whose role is by definition oriented towards human development through the creation of public value. The analysis of public management through the lens of Humanistic Management can be useful in various respects. Above all, the difference between public administrations and private enterprises can also lead to a very much different process of value creation, based on collaborative forms of production as well as relational and reflexive forms of management. In accordance with the Humanistic Management framework, also business organizations must generate social wellbeing. From this point of view, the lesson of public administrations can be extremely useful for business organization and management alike. (shrink)

Platelet‐derived growth factor (PDGF) was originally identified in platelets and in serum as a mitogen for fibroblasts, smooth muscle cells (SMC) and glia cells in culture. PDGF has since expanded to a family of dimers of at least four gene products, whose biological actions are mediated through two receptor tyrosine kinases, PDGFRs. The present review summarizes and discusses the biological functions of PDGFs and PDGFRs in developmental processes, mainly as revealed through genetic analysis in mice. Such studies have demonstrated multiple (...) critical roles of PDGFs and PDGFRs in embryonic and postnatal development. PDGFs seem to act upon specific populations of progenitor cells that give rise to several different cell types with distinct functions in a variety of developmental processes. Analogies are seen between the cell functions and the developmental processes controlled by PDGFs. This suggests that ancestral PDGF and PDGFR expression patterns and functions may have been iterated in related sets of morphogenetic processes in the course of evolution. In 1948 the pharmaceutical company Leo launched a placental hormonal preparation, called Gonadex, in Sweden. During a press conference, and in commercials and newspapers, it was said that Gonadex could cure sterility as well as many other problems related to the endocrine system. The remedy was described as effective and pure, with no side effects whatsoever. For several reasons, Gonadex was looked upon as a ‘Swedish triumph’. Inspired by research on ‘mediation’, conducted within the field of social studies of pharmaceutical (...) drugs, the present essay explores the political and scientific visions and values behind Gonadex; the propaganda for and marketing of Gonadex; the mediated image of Gonadex in the press; the reception by the medical profession, and finally the hopes and fears of the women who tried Gonadex. The essay argues that the public image of Gonadex was ‘oversell’ of hormone therapy, and that it was shaped by the way endocrinologists at Karolinska Hospital, notably Professor Axel Westman, mediated between Leo, the mass media, and the consumers when, and even before, Gonadex was introduced to the market. Nedelsky and Kelsen criticize the notion of subjective rights. While Nedelsky does so on the basis of a relational theory of rights founded on the Hegelian intersubjective recognition, Kelsen rejects Hegel’s theory of rights because property, the paradigmatic subjective right, appears to be constituted prior to intersubjectve recognition. This paper probes into Hegel’s conception of property to elucidate the root of the divergence between Nedelsky and Kelsen. Pierson v. Post is examined as an illustration of that divergence.

O presente texto objetiva investigar o retorno do fenômeno religioso por meio da teoria de Karl Marx sobre o estranhamento, em obras como A questão Judaica, Crítica da filosofia do direito de Hegel – Introdução, Manuscritos Econômicos-filosóficos e a Ideologia Alemã, obras nas quais Marx discute as condições materiais de existência para explicar a sociedade moderna (a política, a religião etc.), o que possibilita uma discussão sobre as estruturas concretas e sociais do sistema capitalista. Essas análises permitem entender como a (...) religião se faz tão presente na vida dos indivíduos, uma vez que o capitalismo é permeado por um trabalho fragmentado, que conduz o homem à perda de si, um trabalho marcado pelas contradições da propriedade privada. Para Marx, a religião não é um fenômeno abstrato, mas social e pode ser investigada pelo estudo das condições materiais da realidade. Portanto, se a religião persiste na sociedade é porque o capitalismo não promove uma real emancipação, mas apenas uma vida humana estranhada. A busca pela religião é uma forma de o homem reconciliar-se consigo mesmo, já que o mundo material o aflige e dilacera. (shrink)

_Resumo_ Este artigo tem por objetivo problematizar a ideia de ser a América Latina um espaço do _puro contingente_, como defende o filósofo argentino Enrique Dussel. Recorrendo a um evento extraordinário do século XIX, a Revolução Haitiana, defendemos a ideia que, mesmo no espaço colonial, é possível encontrar a circulação e a defesa de ideias universais. Mais do que isso, essa revolução apresenta um bom exemplo de como podemos refletir sobre a _universalidade hegeliana_, elaborada por dois grandes pensadores contemporâneos: Susan (...) Anthony Kenny criticized the Five Ways, by Thomas Aquinas, in a widespread and influential book. About the First Way, among other critiques, Kenny considers that Thomas Aquinas failed to prove that “whatever is in motion is put in motion by another”. As this principle is central for the argument developed by Aquinas on the “first mover, put in movement by no other”, the First Way is insufficient and grounded on a mistake. In this article, Aristotle’s and Aquinas’s works are analysed (...) to expose that their arguments about movement are sound and persuasive. On the contrary, Kenny’s criticism is not consistent and is misled by bad interpretation of texts and concepts. Oderberg and Weisheipl agree with Aquinas and Aristotle, and their papers reinforce the conclusions of this article, favourable to the Medieval philosopher and against Kenny. (shrink)

The author analyzes the question about man’s com-position of three parts, body, soul and spirit, based on the Scriptures as well as on the theology devel-oped afterwards and on the Magisterium. Through the explanation about how to understand correctly this way of viewing man, as well as the bipartite way, of man as only composed of body and soul, one can avoid confusions created by a wrong com-prehension of each one of these both views.

Il tema principale del saggio è un’interpretazione del metodo fenomenologico che, focalizzando la questione dell’identità, ne mette in evidenza il lato trascendentale ed egologico. L’obiettivo è il recupero dell’idea di filosofia come scienza rigorosa e il conseguente ritorno alla centralità del soggetto fenomenologico-trascendentale.Viene introdotto il concetto di circolo fenome-nologico, con il quale si intende indicare la ricorsività della riduzione e la necessità di restare in essa, per mantenere il livello fenomenologico dell’esperienza e della conoscenza. Si tratta di una circolarità virtuosa, (...) non solo perché è produttiva, ma anche perché procede attraverso una costante messa fra parentesi dei risultati e una continua riapertura degli orizzonti. Il circolo fenomenologico è un continuo campo di rimandi, caratteristico anche della correlazione noetico-noematica, tra l’io e il mondo, tra la libertà de-ll’atteggiamento e la verità dell’evidenza, un campo polarizzato i cui elementi si relazionano incessantemente e dal quale l’io esce con l’obiettivo però di farvi ritorno. L’io trascendentale dev’essere libero di compiere questo ritorno a se stesso, perché dentro di sé risiede la verità. Questa circolarità è dunque generatrice di libertà per quanto riguarda l’esercizio del metodo del “vedere fenomenologico”, e portatrice di verità per quanto riguarda l’esito del metodo stesso.Viene sottolineato come l’aspirazione fenomenologica a “vivere nella verità” sia uno sforzo per ricostituire quella verità fluente rappresentata dalla vita della soggettività nel terreno del mondo-della-vita. L’epoché, in quanto “totale rivolgimento esistenziale”, diventa il perno di uno stile di vita rivolto alla verità. Per la fenomenologia, vivere nella verità vuol dire vivere nella libertà, perché se la verità scaturisce dall’epoché, e se quest ’ultima si realizza come “sguardo veramente libero”, allora la verità non è solo legata alla libertà, ma ne è anche dipendente.Si sostiene qui che la soggettività fenomenologico-trascendentale rappresenta la chiave per una svolta rispetto alla situazione culturale attuale, nella quale il concetto di “io” è diventato uno dei principali bersagli critici. Viene mostrato come la soggettività sia collegata al metodo: infatti, annota Husserl in un manoscritto del 1924, “la soggettività è il mio tema, ed è un tema puro e in sé conchiuso, indipendente. Mos-trare che e come ciò sia possibile è il compito della descrizione del metodo della riduzione fenomenologica. Il “tema” di Husserl è dunque il suo compito filosofico e la sua missione esistenziale.Da qui si può interpretare anche la fenomenologia dell’intersoggettività sul piano storico-fattuale: la teoria fenomenologica dell’esperienza dell’estraneo non va confusa con i problemi della multiculturalità né tanto meno con le retoriche dell’alterità, ma è un’istanza che ripropone oggi l’antica questione della filosofia che si determina come ethos della theoria e quindi come “ragione pratica”, un’istanza che rimette al centro dell’attenzione quel fondamento che rischia di andare perduto nell’anonimato della tecnoscienza e nell’indistinto di una forma culturale globalizzata e globalizzante, un’istanza che richiama tutti noi a ritornare a ciò che Husserl chiamerebbe la costituzione originaria di senso della civiltà europea.El tema principal del paper es una interpretación del método fenomenológico que, enfocando la cuestión de la identidad, pone en evidencia su dimensión trascendental y egológica. El objetivo es el rescate de la idea husserliana de filosofía como ciencia rigurosa o estricta y el consiguiente regreso a la centralidad del sujeto fenomenológico-trascendental.Se introduce el concepto de círculo fenomenológico, que alude a la recursividad de la reducción y la necesidad de permanecer en ella, para mantener el nivel fenomenológico de la experiencia y del conocimiento. Se trata de una circularidad virtuosa, no sólo porque es productiva, sino porque avanza a través de una constante puesta entre paréntesis de los resultados y una continua reapertura de los horizontes. El círculo fenomenológico es un infinito campo de rebotes referenciales –propio en primer lugar de la correlación noético-noemática– entre el ego y el mundo, entre la libertad de la actitud y la verdad de la evidencia, un campo polarizado cuyas partes se relacionan incesantemente y del cual el ego sale pero con el objetivo de volver a entrar. El ego trascendental debe ser libre de cumplir este retorno a sí mismo, porque dentro de sí reside la verdad. Esta circularidad es entonces generadora de libertad por lo que se refiere al ejercicio del método del “mirar fenomenológico”, y portadora de verdad por lo que se refiere al resultado del método mismo.Se subraya la aspiración fenomenológica a “vivir en la verdad” como esfuerzo que se propone reconstruir esa verdad fluyente constituida por la vida de la subjetividad en el terreno del mundo de la vida. La epoché, en tanto “total transformación existencial”, se vuelve el perno de un estilo de vida orientado hacia a la verdad. Para la fenomenología, vivir en la verdad quiere decir vivir en la libertad, porque si la verdad surge de la epoché, y si esta última se realiza como “mirada verdaderamente libre”, entonces la verdad no está sólo ligada a la libertad, sino que resulta dependiente de ella.Se sostiene que la subjetividad fenomenológico-trascendental representa la clave para un viraje respecto de la situación cultural que prevalece en la actualidad, en la cual el concepto de “yo” se ha vuelto uno de los principales blancos de crítica. Se muestra aquí la radicalidad del nexo entre la subjetividad y el método. En un manuscrito de 1924 Husserl efectivamente anota: “la subjetividad es mi tema, y es un tema puro y en sí completo, independiente. Mostrar que ello es posible y de qué manera, es el cometido de la descripción del método de la reducción fenomenológica”. El “tema” de Husserl es por lo tanto su cometido filosófico y su misión existencial.A partir de aquí es posible interpretar también la fenomenología de la intersubjetividad a nivel histórico-fáctico: la teoría fenomenológica de la experiencia del extraño no debe ser confundida con los problemas de la multiculturalidad ni, menos aún, con las retóricas de la alteridad, sino que es una instancia que vuelve nuevamente actual la antigua cuestión de la filosofía que se determina como ethos de la theoria y por ende como “razón práctica”, una instancia que vuelve a poner al centro de nuestra atención ese fundamento que corría el riesgo de perderse en el anonimato de la tecnociencia y en lo indistinto de una forma cultural globalizada y globalizante, una instancia que reclama un retorno, de parte de todos nosotros, a lo que Husserl llamaría la constitu-ción originaria de sentido de la civilización europea.
