Some viewpoints on the foundations of mathematics and its philosophy are more connected to scientific practice and its heuristics, mainly with the construction of physical theories and the search for the best explanations of physical phenomena by means of abduction or the solution of problems by the analytical method. Some researchers have introduced the importance of human cultural activities into the cognitive aspects of the mental processes of scientists, proposing an embodied approach in the bridge between mathematics and reality. Fluid (...) mechanics is an interesting area in this sense due to its position if the network of mathematics. By means of an historical example on vortex motion by Helmholtz, we show that the intuitive idea of eddy contains cognitive properties of a mental schema and that it gives many heuristic options for an embodied mathematical explanation about vortex dynamics. This article calls for a new theoretical synthesis that overcomes the fragmentation, specialization and professionalization within the social sciences. As an alternative to utilitarianism and the colonization of the social sciences by rational choice models, it proposes a new articulation of social theory, the Studies and moral, social and political philosophy. Based on a positive anthropology that finds its inspiration in Marcel Mauss’s classic essay on the gift, it recommends a return to classical social theory and explores articulations between theories (...) of reciprocity, care and recognition. Le présent article s’appuie sur une recherche clinique référée à la théorie psychanalytique et menée à partir de trente entretiens semi-directifs réalisés auprès d’adultes homosexuels engagés dans la parentalité. L’auteur présente deux études de cas qui concernent des sujets ayant choisi la configuration de la coparentalité à quatre. Les hypothèses suivantes sont soumises à l’analyse du discours : d’une part, dans ce genre de configuration, on retrouve une permanence des processus psychiques liés au devenir parent (réactualisation des enjeux œdipiens, deuil (...) développemental, permutation symbolique des places); d’autre part ce genre de configuration met en évidence que ces processus peuvent trouver un étayage sur le lien amoureux entre personnes de même sexe ainsi que sur les liens qui se créent entre les membres du « quatuor » et dans lesquels les fantaisies hétérosexuelles jouent un rôle non négligeable. Depuis 2002, les régions sont pleinement responsables de la gestion des TER. Cette évolution permet-elle de faire l'hypothèse que la décentralisation s'apparente à une forme instituée d'expérimentation et d'innovation publiques ? L'hypothèse mérite discussion tant elle heurte frontalement une certaine tradition politique française.

This paper proffers a dialogical theory of decision-making: decision-makers are engaged in two modes of rational decisions, instrumental and existential. Instrumental rational decisions take place when the DM views the self externally to the objects, whether goods or animate beings. Existential rational decisions take place when the DM views the self in union with such objects. While the dialogical theory differs from Max Weber’s distinction between two kinds of rationality, it follows Martin Buber’s philosophical anthropology. The Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR) has a new mechanism to receive individual complaints and issue views, which makes the question of how the Committee should interpret the broad articles of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights more pressing than ever. Most commentators on the legitimacy of the CESCR’s interpretation have argued that interpreters should make better use of Articles 31–33 of the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties (VCLT) in order to improve (...) the legitimacy of their findings. In this article, we argue conversely that the individual communication mechanism should be evaluated and reformed in terms of legitimate authority. In the context of the Committee’s process of interpretation, we contend that proportionality is better suited than the various interpretive options of the VCLT to offer a consistent procedure that is able to generate legitimacy by attenuating the tension between personal and collective autonomy. Philosophy is a paradoxical form of knowledge, and its contradictions can only be resolved by invoking the idea of a hospitality offered to every philosopher. It can itself be defined, in its way of operating, as radical hospitality offered to whatever is not itself.

Notre expérience quotidienne nous le prouve : nous prenons des décisions pour nous déplacer, pour penser, pour agir et réagir. Nous prenons ces décisions selon notre nature et notre environnement, mais aussi en fonction de notre volonté propre. C'est cette caractéristique essentielle qui confère à l'humain son libre arbitre. Toutefois, rien dans la science ne vient conforter cette formidable intuition. Au contraire, les modèles contemporains des neurosciences et des sciences cognitives tendent à faire de nous des machines imparfaites, et à (...) reléguer la volonté au rang d'illusion. Dans ce court essai, Alain Van Kerckhoven démontre que le libre arbitre a toujours été instrumentalisé pour justifier des postures religieuses, philosophiques ou politiques. L'apparition de nouveaux outils de connaissance permet pour la première fois d'en faire un sujet d'étude rationnelle. Les conclusions nous entraînent aux frontières de la science et de la philosophie, au coeur de l'expérience humaine. (shrink)

In this article, I suggest an original solution to the Liar Paradox, based on the pragmatic theory of speech acts. This solution implies making a distinction between two concepts of truth: the intentional truth of a speaker’s utterances directed toward an addressee with the objective of obtaining a consensual agreement; the effective truth objectively recognized by the addressee in the speaker’s utterances. In view of reaching this new solution to the classic paradox, I conduct a critical review of solutions put (...) forward by Tarski, Kripke and Strawson. (shrink)

La violation expérimentale des inégalités de Bell en mécanique quantique n'est pas un argument en soi suffisant pour invalider la logique classique et l'ontologie galiléenne. Les résultats expérimentaux démontrant cette violation restent parfaitement compatibles avec le réalisme et la localité. L'idée même d'une ontologie expérimentale est du reste hautement contestable, l'expérience ne pouvant contredire l'ontologie qui la conditionne. The experimental violation of Bell's inequalities in Quantum Mechanics is no argument per se sufficient enough to invalidate classical logic and Galilean ontology. (...) Experimental results proving such a violation remain absolutely compatible with realism and locality. The very idea of an experimental ontology is, besides, highly disputable, experience being unable to contradict the ontology by which it is conditioned. (shrink)

Karl Popper a toujours exprimé une grande admiration à l'égard de l'Allgemeine Erkenntnislehre de Moritz Schlick. En revanche, les positions adoptées par Schlick au cours de son séjour à Vienne ont surtout suscité la critique de l'auteur de la Logique de la découverte scientifique. Le désaccord porte sur la réduction schlickienne de la valeur des théories à des instruments de prédiction, sur la portée du Tractatus de Wittgenstein, sur la théorie du sens et sur la vérité. Popper, dès 1931, refuse (...) absolument le positivisme anti-métaphysique, le « tournant » linguistique et le « principe de vérification ». Le débat sur la base empirique au sein du Wiener Kreis à partir de 1931 est complexe, et l'intervention de Popper comme celle de Schlick sont cruciales. Le concept de redondance logiqu e chez Bolzano soulève plusieurs difficultés. Il ne s?accorde ni avec la notion de représentation simple qu?il est censé expliquer, puisque Bolzano définit les individus comme des unités composées de plusieurs caractères et décrit les représentations singulières (noms propres et indexicaux) comme l?abréviation de descriptions définies, ni avec la distinction entre jugements synthétiques et analytiques, car il sup­pose que l?analyse d?un sujet individuel permet d?en dévoiler un à un les prédicats, comme si l?expérience ne jouait (...) aucun rôle dans la connaissance des individus. Pourquoi Bolzano reste-t-il donc attaché à un concept aussi problématique ? Est-ce le seul moyen d?expliquer comment nous nous repré­sentons des individus ? Nous montrerons que les apories de la notion de redondance logique témoignent de l?influence de la théorie leibnizienne du jugement, et qu?une version phénoménologiquement améliorée de la séman­tique objective est néanmoins capable de les surmonter et de rétablir la simplicité de la représentation et la synthèse du jugement dans leurs droits. Le traité (ou dialogue) « pythique » du platonicien Plutarque de Chéronée (Iier – IIe s. ap. J.-C.) intitulé Sur l’E de Delphes est consacré à l’élucidation de la signification de l’E (la cinquième lettre de l’alphabet grec) consacré à Apollon Pythien. Une des interprétations (d’inspiration pythagoricienne) est que cet E désigne le nombre cinq, le nombre de l’univers. Dans le cadre de l’exposé de cette interprétation est fait état de l’opinion « de certains » selon laquelle il existe une (...) correspondance entre les cinq sens et les cinq éléments. L’A. montre que les deux lignes où il est question de la vue (E 390b6-8) s’inspirent essentiellement de l’explication qu’en Timée 45b-d Platon donne du mécanisme de la vision en termes de mélange du feu pur émis par l’œil avec le feu pur extérieur qui produit la lumière du jour. L’extrême brièveté de ce résumé (empreint d’aristotélisme, l’élément associé à la vue étant ici l’éther considéré comme cinquième corps), d’un passage dans Platon offrant lui-même bon nombre de difficultés, explique que ces deux lignes énigmatiques n’aient jamais été bien comprises. Au passage, l’A. revient sur les notions d’homoiopatheia (d’homogénéité) et de summetria (de commensurabilité) en Timée 45b-d et 67c-e pour en proposer une interprétation qui souligne et éclaire d’un jour nouveau le caractère dynamique de l’explication platonicienne de la vision. Un Appendice donne un aperçu des différentes lectures d’E 390b6-8 depuis les premières éditions imprimées à la Renaissance jusqu’aux éditions critiques des 19e et 20e siècles. (shrink)

We provide a theoretical frame (mostly gathered from Ricoeur, Gadamer, Habermas and the author's own theorizing) and provide a way to put the cinematic content in relation with the interpret's experience by suggesting questions.

Este artículo destaca cómo Grassi ha ofrecido una influyente interpretación de Vico, y cómo el pensador napolitano llegó a convertirse en uno de los "autores" de Grassi, imprescindible para la reconstrucción de la tradición del humanismo retórico y también en la confrontación con el idealismo moderno. Un autor al que Grassi dedicaría su atención y no abandonaría hasta su muerte.This paper intends to show how Grassi has offered an influential interpretation of Vico, and how the Neapolitan thinker was one of (...) those "authors" of Grassi, indispensable for the reconstruction of the tradition of the rhetorical humanism and also in the confrontation with the modern idealism. À la différence de la notion d'information, celle de communication n'a pas donné lieu à un corpus théorique en économie. Il n'y a pas à proprement parler une économie de la communication comme il ya une économie de l'information. Cela tient à ce que les interactions sociales n'entraient pas dans le champ de l'analyse économique jusqu'à une date récente. La communication a toutefois été l'objet de deux types d'analyse: l'efficacité des structures de communication internes aux organisations, les effets réseaux dans (...) les industries de la communication. Une économie de la communication est cependant en voie de constitution avec le poids croissant des interactions sociales dans la création de richesses comme sur Internet.Unlike the concept of information, the communication has not resulted in a theoretical economics. There is not really an economy of communication as there is an information economy. It is that social interactions were not within the scope of economic analysis until recently. Communication, however, was subject to two types of analysis: the effectiveness of internal structures of communication organizations, the network effects in the communication industries. An economy of communication, however, is being set up with the growing importance of social interaction in the creation of wealth as on the Internet. (shrink)

La compétition entre ces systèmes ne se réduit pas à la conception de Michael Porter de l''avantage compétitif'. Elle doit être comprise comme un enjeu géopolitique et la recherche d'une hégémonie compétitive. L'étude porte sur le Japon et les Etats-Unis depuis les années 1970.

Capitalizing on the data presented in the three papers in this issue, the comments and conclusions here elaborate on the concept of transfer of knowledge in the field of materia medica and pharmacy. They evidence different mechanisms in three contexts, the Holy Roman Empire, the Western world and China, and trace the possible ancient roots of the phenomena under consideration. In so doing, they contextualize the processes under study in the three essays, and suggest also a possible new interpretation of (...) the practice of science from the Late Middle Ages to the Scientific Revolution. La dispute récurrente entre Braudel et Gurvitch a pris une nouvelle tournure en 1958 lorsque chacun explicita son approche des temps. Braudel estime que sa distinction entre trois durées historiques devrait offrir un cadre épistémologique et méthodologique commun aux sciences sociales, sociologie comprise. La typologie des temps sociaux de Gurvitch ne lui semble pas opératoire : elle est trop qualitative. Gurvitch lui répond que réalité et temps historiques se rapportent à des genres particuliers de temps sociaux, qualitatifs-quantitatifs, discontinus-continus... L’étude de (...) ces derniers confirmerait que l’historien et le sociologue ne peuvent concevoir de la même manière leur objet et leur méthode. Esquisse d’une analyse critique.The recurrent debate between Braudel and Gurvitch was given a new development in 1958, when both of them clarified their definition of time. In Braudel’s mind the distinction he made between three different historical times offered a common epistemological and methodological framework for social sciences, including sociology. For Braudel, Gurvitch’s typification of time in terms of social times seemed to be unoperative : it is too qualitative. Gurvitch replied to him that historical reality and historical times referred to specific types of social times : qualitative-quantitative, discontinuous-continuous... The study of these types would confirm that the historian and the sociologist do not conceive their object and their method in the same way. The article sketches a critical analysis of the question. Is medieval logic formal? And if yes, in what sense? There are striking affinities between medieval and contemporary theories of language. Authors from the two periods share formal ambitions and maintain complex, and at time uneasy, relations with natural language. However, modern scholars became careful not to overlook the specificities of theories developed more than five hundred years apart, in particular with respect to their 'formal' character. In 1972, Alfonso Maieru noted that the efforts of medieval logicians to identify logical (...) structures in language which are formal enough to become objects of scientific consideration. He also stressed that the language investigated is a historical one, Latin, so that one can legitimately wonder to which extent... one is allowed to speak of 'formal logic' in the middle ages. In other words, medieval logic is characterized by a tension between 'formalist ambitions' and constraints proper to natural language. Today, our knowledge of the field has considerably expanded, calling for a new assessment of the question. (shrink)

In the management of the Covid 19 crisis, digital technologies were used in a major way. This article defends the hypothesis that these technologies took the form of a “tacit social experimentation”. This article justifies this concept in three levels. The first part uses this concept to qualify the form of biopolitics that was implemented to manage the crisis. Digital technologies were used to discipline the population and, literally speaking, as instruments of knowledge of the population. Uncertainty forced experts to (...) make preliminary observations and act to produce knowledge. Second, this article shows that the use of digital technologies during the crisis was experimental in a second sense. By promoting telemedicine within a more flexible legal framework, the authorities authorised an experimental use of telemedicine without knowledge or control of its side effects. Finally, the article defends the use of the concept of “tacit social experimentation” for ethical and political purposes. For indeed, understanding the experiments carried out during the crisis begs the question of the involvement of the participants and their democratic steering. (shrink)
