The paper functions as a contribution to feminist analyses that are methodologically based on Rosa Luxemburg’s critique of political economy and her understanding of capital accumulation, but also as a contribution to contemporary social-reproduction theory which aims to integrate Luxemburg’s legacy alongside that of Marx. The essay offers a sketch for a ‘Luxemburgian feminism’ consisting of an overview of Luxemburg’s critique of bourgeois feminism and a preliminary application of Luxemburg’s ‘dialectics of spatiality’ to contemporary social-reproduction theory. With Luxemburg’sThe Accumulation of (...) Capitalin mind and her several essays on the so-called ‘women’s question’, we shall attempt to relate Luxemburg’s explanation of the dynamic link between capitalist and non-capitalist spatialities with the commodification of women’s reproductive labour. Prema Foucaultovom razumijevanju posve specifični, ali svakodnevni, kontekst čini da jezik, život i rad određuju bit modernoga čovjeka, a u konsekvencijama uvjeta tako shvaćene ontologije i »znanost o čovjeku«. Habermas će pak, posve se koncentrirajući na komunikativni potencijal jezika, shvatiti antropologiju svakodnevlja posve različito Foucaultovoj poststrukturalističkoj kritici metafizike i tradicionalnom poimanju uzročnosti, identiteta, subjekta i istine. Ovdje bismo otvorili debatu Foucault/Habermas da bismo ispitali u kojem je odnosu praksa svakodnevlja s jezikom. Tvrdimo da je veza jezika, epistemologije i društvenopolitičkoga svakodnevlja (...) temeljna kad je u pitanju teza da čovjek u političkom smislu postoji kao jezično biće. To ćemo pokušati utvrditi na nekim Habermasovim točkama racionalizacije društva i komunikativnosti za koja ćemo ponuditi i tri kritička mjesta: poststrukturalističko i postmoderno, feminističko, i mediološko.According to Foucault’s understanding quite specific but the everyday context makes it possible that language, life and work define the essence of modern man, and in consequences in terms of such understood ontology also the “science of man”. Habermas would, however, completely concentrating himself on the communicative potential of language understand the anthropology of everyday life quite different from Foucault’s poststructuralist critique of metaphysics and traditional notions of causality, identity, subject and truth. We would like to open the Foucault/Habermas debate in order to examine the relation between practice of everyday life and language. We claim that the relationship nature of language, epistemology and sociopolitical everyday life is fundamental when it comes to the thesis that in the political sense human exists as a linguistic being. We will try to determine that thesis with few points of Habermas’ rationalization of society and communication for which we offer three critical places: poststructuralist and postmodern, feminist, and perspective of mediology. Nova globalna politika – koja, između ostaloga, obuhvaća i multibirokracijsko donošenje odluka, unutar i između vladine i međunarodne birokracije, politiku što je pokreću transnacionalne snage i agencije, te nove oblike multinacionalne integracije među državama – stvorila je međunarodni »nadnacionalni« okvir, u kojem i preko kojega se redefiniraju prava i obveze, ovlasti i moći država. U tom slučaju liberalna država štiti, a ne propisuje, ona je neutralna. Državno je miješanje opravdano samo ukoliko ona treba zaštititi pojedince jedne od drugih, ili od (...) same vlasti. U svim drugim slučajevima država nelegitimno uzurpira prava pojedinaca i ograničava njihove slobode. Društvo slobodne konkurencije i »prisvajanja vlasništva« temelj je liberalizma, koji će u novijoj varijanti preuzeti neo-liberalizam pozicioniranjem kapitalističkog sustava ekonomije. Drugim riječima, minimalna država osigurava stabilni zakonski i regulativni okvir, tako da se pojedinci mogu baviti svojim poslom bez prekomjernoga uplitanja politike, što, dakako u globalnim okvirima, ima svoje posljedice.New global politics – which, among others, encompasses multibureaucratic decision making,within and between government and international bureaucracy, politics steered by transna­tional powers and agencies, as well as new forms of multinational integration between states– has created an international “above-national” frame, in which and through which, rightsand obligations are redefined, jurisdictions and rights of states. In this case the liberal stateprotects, but does not stipulate, she is neutral. Involvement of the state is justified only if sheneeds to protect individuals from each other or from the government itself. In all other casesthe state illegitimately usurps the rights of individuals and limits their freedoms. A society offree competition “seizing of ownership” is the foundation of liberalism that will in its newerform take over neo-liberalism by positioning the capitalist economic system. In other words,the minimal state secures a stable legal and regulative frame, so that individuals can deal withtheir business without excessive interference of politics, which, of course in the global frame,has its consequences. In this paper, implicitly starting from the neuralgic epistemological point caused by Kostas Axelos’ question to Gordana Bosanac: “Will a woman manage to think?”, we will analyse The Second Sex (Le Deuxième sexe, 1949) by Simone de Beauvoir, to deliberately dissolve the irony of Axelos’s question by reading and talking to the text of one of the most important woman philosophers in the history of philosophy. We will interpret The Second Sex as a report on the phenomenology of the relationship (...) between the gendered self and the gender-marked world, in which the social ideals of the feminine shape the experience of the female self and the processes of becoming a woman. The paper is structured into three sections. After the introductory notes, in the first section, entitled “Ad feminam criticism and controversies”, we will present only a few paradigmatic examples of controversies and negative reactions that followed the publication of The Second Sex. In the “Phenomenology of Gender”, the second and key section of the paper, we will pay attention to the original reading of The Second Sex, mapping the existentialist-phenomenological theses on gender in the book. Finally, in the concluding remarks, we will only sketch a few more recent readings of The Second Sex, to point out the current and very engaged affirmations and additions to the ideas that Simone de Beauvoir announced with that philosophical classic. Hrvatski su isusovci bili blizu vrha svjetske znanosti i imali važnu ulogu u hrvatskoj kulturi, a tako i u znanosti. Mnogi hrvatski isusovci zaslužni su za razvoj prirodnih znanosti. No uz one koji su sada poznati sigurno je da ima još mnogo onih kojima rad nije dosad izašao na vidjelo. Upravo zato bit će potrebno provesti još mnoga nova istraživanja kojima će biti upotpunjena naša znanja o prinosu hrvatskih isusovacaprirodnim znanostima. Pogledom u povijest možemo reći da su Hrvati nadograđivali svojim (...) znanstvenim spoznajama u području prirodnih znanosti kulturnu baštinu europske zajednice. U 18. stoljeću znanost se postupno institucionalizira, a u 19. stoljeću postavljaju se temelji za sustavno i moderno ulaganje u znanost. Početkom 20. stoljeća, odnosno 1905. godine, Albert Einstein uvodi nove ideje u fiziku, koje nalaze svoje sljedbenike i u Hrvatskoj. The purpose of the research is to understand formulation of policy for creative industries, and in particular the importance of quantitative and qualitative data or information for formulation of the first policies for creative industries at national and regional level. The goal of the research is to assess whether it is possible to draft useful policy for the creative industry without having specific quantitative data at its disposal, which is often the case when such policy is being newly developed. The (...) methodology used is a brief literature review, and a case study. The case study regards policy development for the architectural sector in the East-Slovak region of Košice, which was executed by the authors in the context of the assignment to draft a strategy for development of the creative economy of the Košice region. Statistical data presented in this research were generated in the context of that assignment.The authors found that in the case of Slovakia and the region of Košice, the availability of data on the creative industries as a new policy area is very limited. Both at national level and at regional level, qualitative data and information are most useful for formulating policy. This is possible among others because qualitative needs’ assessment is feasible; international literature and best practices provide a guideline for formulating policy; and because general policies can address specific requirements through demand driven projects. The implication of the research is that specific quantitative data on the creative industries does not need to be considered a conditio sine qua non for drafting and implementing policy for the creative industries. Quantitative data will be necessary for evaluating outputs and impact of policy, in terms of efficiency and effectiveness of public spending. The choice of indicators, and collecting, processing and interpreting of quantitative data shall be an integral part of the policy to be implemented. (shrink)

In the article, we analyse ethical and moral issues of public administration in region of Eastern Slovakia through some cases of the last years. We focused on self-governing regions, namely the Košice and Prešov self-governing regions. We identified two fundamental situations where failures on the side of public administrators occur: selection processes for vacant positions, be it directly in public administration or institutions that fall under its domain, and public procurement with regard to the acquisition of goods and services. The (...) year 2009 was the year of elections to self-governing regions which is why a great number of negative cases dealt with the election campaign. Further, we stated that negative cases dealt with failures of bodies of self-governing regions from both the legal (breaking the law) and moral viewpoint. By claiming that public administrators failed morally, we meant breaking moral norms and rules. Contradictions, which were identified (from the ethical viewpoint), predominantly result from the conflict between public and private interests. In many cases, private interests of public administrators are preferred at the expense of public interests. And it is exactly this preference (a conflict of interests) that is sensitively perceived by the public. (shrink)

The article uses Japanese Noh, where stage continuity has been preserved up until the present day, to reconstruct European medieval stage practices reflected in 15th century painting. Referring to the platonic tradition, the second speech represents a corrective to the first, thus legitimizing a sense of passion in the process leading to catharsis, or enlightenment.
