The More You Care, the Worthier I Feel, the Better I Behave: How and When Supervisor Support Influences (Un)Ethical Employee Behavior.Francesco Sguera, Richard P. Bagozzi, Quy N. Huy, R. Wayne Boss & David S. Boss - 2018 - Journal of Business Ethics 153 (3):615-628.
This article investigates the effects of perceived supervisor support on ethical and unethical employee behavior using a multi-method approach. Specifically, we test the mediating mechanism and a boundary condition that moderate the relationship between support and ethical employee behaviors. We find that supervisor-based self-esteem fully mediates the relationship between supervisor support and ethical employee behavior and that employee task satisfaction intensifies the relationship between supervisor support and supervisor-based self-esteem.

Précis of Understanding Institutions.Francesco Guala - 2016 - Philosophy of the Social Sciences 48 (6):539-549.
Understanding Institutions offers a theory that is able to unify the two dominant approaches in the scientific and philosophical literature on institutions. Moreover, using the ‘rules-in-equilibrium’ theory, it tackles several ancient puzzles in the philosophy of social science.

University Students' Online Learning During COVID-19: The Role of Grit in Academic Performance.Francesco Sulla, Antonio Aquino & Dolores Rollo - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
The governmental restriction due to COVID-19 pandemic led to Italian Universities moving teaching from face-to-face, to online. This represented an unexpected transition from traditional learning to what can be considered “e-learning.” This, together with the psychological distress that may be associated with the experience of lockdown, might have affected students' performance. It was hypothesised that grit may be a protective factor in such situations. Indeed, compared to their less “gritty” peers, individuals with higher levels of grit are expected to exhibit (...)

Coscienza e soggettività. La scienza cognitiva ha eliminato le persone?Michele Di Francesco & Alfredo Tomasetta - 2013 - Rivista di Filosofia 104 (3):403-420.
Some philosophers and cognitive scientists think that a naturalised philosophy of the (self-) conscious mind should lead us to reject the very existence of the self. The paper focuses on two case-studies which are representative of this kind of attitude. In particular we examine, and criticise, Thomas Metzinger's 'no-self alternative' and Daniel Dennett's narrative elimination of the self. Our aim is not to prove that any elimination of the self from the inventory of the world based on the empirical study (...)

    Investigating children’s Why-questions: A study comparing argumentative and explanatory function.Francesco Arcidiacono & Antonio Bova - 2013 - Discourse Studies 15 (6):713-734.
Questions represent a crucial tool of interaction between parents and children from a very early age. This study aims to investigate which function – argumentative or explanatory – most characterizes Why-questions asked by children to their parents in a natural setting such as mealtimes at home. Why-questions asked by 13 children – eight girls and five boys aged between three and seven years – coming from 10 middle- to upper-middle-class Swiss and Italian families with a high socio-cultural level were analyzed. (...)

“Do the Gods Play Dice?”. Sensible Sequentialism and Fuzzy Logic in Plato’s Timaeus.Francesco Fronterotta - 2018 - Discipline Filosofiche 28 (1):13-32.
In this paper I propose a reconstruction of the onto-cosmological perspective of Plato’s Timaeus and suggest an interpretation of it in the light of some contemporary approaches to ontology and logic, i.e. “ontological sequentialism” and “fuzzy logic”, attempting to use the categories and language of present-day ontology and logic to examine from a different point of view some aspects of the Timaeus onto-cosmology and of its logical scaffolding.

The End of the World? Mental Causation, Explanation and Metaphysics.Michele Di Francesco & Alfredo Tomasetta - 2015 - Humana Mente 8 (29).
In this paper we offer some ideas on the relationship between metaphysics of causation and common explanatory practices of behaviour. We first suggest a sort of “negotiating model” for theorizing about mental causation, and then examine the so-called causal closure argument focusing on some morals one can draw from it that further illustrate the model we recommend.

    Sequent Calculi for First-order $$\textrm{ST}$$.Francesco Paoli & Adam Přenosil - 2024 - Journal of Philosophical Logic 53 (5):1291-1320.
Strict-Tolerant Logic ($$\textrm{ST}$$ ST ) underpins naïve theories of truth and vagueness (respectively including a fully disquotational truth predicate and an unrestricted tolerance principle) without jettisoning any classically valid laws. The classical sequent calculus without Cut is sometimes advocated as an appropriate proof-theoretic presentation of $$\textrm{ST}$$ ST. Unfortunately, there is only a partial correspondence between its derivability relation and the relation of local metainferential $$\textrm{ST}$$ ST -validity – these relations coincide only upon the addition of elimination rules and only within (...)

Modes of Bonding and Morphogenesis. Deleuze, Ruyer, and the Rearticulation of Life and Nonlife.Francesco Pugliaro - 2024 - Biosemiotics 17 (1):161-184.
This paper takes up some threads of Deleuze’s and Ruyer’s engagement with biology. I begin by laying out the main features of Deleuze’s scheme of morphogenesis, through the lens of his references to embryology. I take Deleuze’s interest in embryology to be guided by the effort to define bodies solely by form-generating factors which are immanent to them. His concept of virtuality, which indicates the creative component of reality, the open field of connections defining a body’s capacities for transformation and (...)

The Eightfold Ambiguity of Oratia Obliqua Sentences.Francesco Orilia - 1994 - Grazer Philosophische Studien 47 (1):197-205.
Sentences such as "Holmes believes that the leader of the London gang is about to be incriminated" are commonly understood to have two readings: de re and de diclo. On the basis of the way which the de relde dicto distinction is customarily conveyed, it is shown that such sentences have not just two but eight readings. It is suggested that intensional entities - such as senses, guises or denoting concepts - are the most natural way to account for this (...)

The expression "image" is characterized, starting with the Greek language, by a certain ambiguity, since it can point to an iconic sign or to an allegoric-figurative sign. However it is possible to find out in the history of ancient thought an acceptation of "image" where these features are both present, that is agalma whose first meaning in the lexicon of classic Greek is "sacred image". Neoplatonism particularly uses this expression as one of the key term of its doctrine about the (...)

La Fenomenologia dello spirito di Hegel. Problemi e interpretazioni.Francesco Pisano, Alessandro Arienzo & Simone Testa (eds.) - 2018 - Napoli NA, Italia: Federico II university Press.
