Development of a Salutogenesis Workshop for SPPs to Help Them, Their Athletes, and the Athlete’s Entourage Better Cope With Uncertainty During the COVID-19 Pandemic.Sascha Leisterer, Franziska Lautenbach, Nadja Walter, Lara Kronenberg & Anne-Marie Elbe - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
The COVID-19 pandemic is also called a crisis of uncertainty because of so many unforeseeable events like canceled qualification competitions, loss of training facilities, and postponement of the Olympic games. Athletes and their entourage experience this uncertainty as stressful. Sport psychology practitioners are in a key position to support athletes in coping with these unforeseeable stressors. However, SPPs are similarly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and simultaneously have to cope with stress. Salutogenesis, which describes how to manage stress and to (...)

Amateur and Recreational Athletes’ Motivation to Exercise, Stress, and Coping During the Corona Crisis.Franziska Lautenbach, Sascha Leisterer, Nadja Walter, Lara Kronenberg, Theresa Manges, Oliver Leis, Vincent Pelikan, Sabrina Gebhardt & Anne-Marie Elbe - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 11.
The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted mobility worldwide. As a corollary, the health of top- and lower-level athletes alike is profoundly reliant on movement and exercise. Thus, the aim of this study is to understand impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown on athletes’ motivation to exercise and train. In detail, we aim to better understand who reported a change in motivation to train due to the lockdown, why they reported lower motivation, what they did to help themselves, what support they (...)

Die Corona-Pandemie II: Leben lernen mit dem Virus.Walter Schaupp, Hans-Walter Ruckenbauer, Johann Platzer & Wolfgang Kröll (eds.) - 2021 - Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG.
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has confronted us with constantly new challenges. We need to browse new inventories of scientific knowledge to reflect on previous experiences and thus facilitate societal learning. In line with the first volume on the COVID-19 pandemic in this series, contributions from different disciplines and fields of practice create an awareness of the complexity of this crisis and help us to understand the diversity of challenges it poses. The first part focuses on philosophical, sociological and psychological problem (...)

On a Theoretical Analysis of Deceiving: How to Resist a Bullshit Attack.Walter Carnielli - 2010 - In W. Carnielli L. Magnani (ed.), Model-Based Reasoning in Science and Technology. pp. 291--299.
This paper intends to open a discussion on how certain dangerous kinds of deceptive reasoning can be defined, in which way it is achieved in a discussion, and which would be the strategies for defense against such deceptive attacks on the light of some principles accepted as fundamental for rationality and logic.

Many drugs have therapeutic off-label uses for which they were not originally designed. Some drugs designed to treat neuropsychiatric and other disorders may enhance certain normal cognitive and affective functions. Because the long-term effects of cognitive and affective enhancement are not known and may be harmful, a precautionary principle limiting its use seems warranted. As an expression of autonomy, though, competent individuals should be permitted to take cognition- and mood-enhancing agents. But they need to be aware of the risks in (...)

Activists, pragmatists, technophiles and tree-huggers? Gender differences in employees' environmental attitudes.Walter Wehrmeyer & Margaret McNeil - 2000 - Journal of Business Ethics 28 (3):211 - 222.
Although there are suggestions that the environmental attitudes of men and of women differ, there have been few studies that study and evaluate these differences at the workplace. Given the claim of Ecofeminist writers about the environmental superiority of women's environmental attitudes, and the proclaimed need of business to change attitudes and behaviour with regard to the environment, this is a surprise. The paper is based on 1022 (37% from women) questionnaires which were collected in a U.K. pharmaceutical company, and (...)

The place of Shepard in the world of perception.Walter Gerbino - 2001 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 24 (4):669-671.
To balance Kubovy & Epstein, I evaluate the relationship between Shepard and Gestalt theorists along three dimensions. First, both discover internal universals by reducing external support. Second, they share strengths and weaknesses of the minimum principle. Third, although their attitudes toward an evolutionary account of perception is superficially different, they are fundamentally similar with respect to the internalization process. Professor Kenneth J. Arrow is one of the most distinguished economic theorists. He has played a major role in shaping the subject and is honoured by the publication of three volumes of essays on economic theory. Each volume deals with a different area of economic theory. The books include contributions by some of the best economic theorists from the United Stated, Japan, Israel and Europe. This second volume is entitled Equilibrium Analysis and is divided into sections on general equilibrium and (...)

“Overcoming Metaphysics”: A Fundamental Feature of Twentieth Century Philosophy.Walter Schweidler - 2022 - Journal of Chinese Philosophy 49 (1):65-73.
The concept of metaphysics has undergone a significant change in the last 200 years. Beginning with Kant, there is a development in which “metaphysics” is no longer understood as a philosophical discipline but as a personal disposition which rather is an object of philosophical reflexion. For Wittgenstein and Heidegger, this has been the starting point of their understanding of the task and the end of the activity called philosophizing. For both thinkers, philosophy depends on an initial presupposition which, in order (...)

Structural Properties of Irreducible Two-Particle Representations of the Poincaré Group.Walter Smilga - 2019 - Foundations of Physics 49 (7):728-740.
Two particles, described by an irreducible two-particle representation of the Poincaré group, are correlated by the constraints that the constancy of the Casimir operators imposes on the state space. This correlation can be understood as a geometrically caused interaction between the particles, the strength of which is related to the normalisation constant \ of the two-particle states by \. The numerical value of \ is found to match the experimental value of the electromagnetic fine structure constant \. This strongly suggests (...)
