Some algebraic structures of the set of all effects are investigated and summarized in the notion of a(weak) orthoalgebra. It is shown that these structures can be embedded in a natural way in lattices, via the so-calledMacNeille completion. These structures serve as a model ofparaconsistent quantum logic, orthologic, andorthomodular quantum logic.

A teoria da implicatura constitui o principal legado de Paul Grice aos modernos estudos da pragmática linguística. Embora associado à filosofia da linguagem ordinária, seu pensamento não se apresenta marcado pela aversão à sistematização teórica que, segundo se diz, caracterizou essa corrente filosófica. Pelo contrário, a obra do filósofo inglês, apesar de dispersa em artigos só postumamente reunidos em livro, constitui um esforço coerente e rigoroso de analisar os princípios que explicam o comportamento racional do homem. Este ensaio oferece uma (...) tentativa de interpretação da análise que ele propôs para o fenômeno da implicatura, buscando integrar tal análise, progressivamente, ao quadro mais geral de sua filosofia da linguagem e de sua psicologia filosófica. De passagem, é sugerida uma aproximação, quanto aos propósitos, entre o programa filosófico de Grice e certa ensaística crítica do poeta argentino Jorge Luis Borges, sugestão talvez surpreendente, mas que pode se mostrar instrutiva. The present volume contains 14 contributions presented at a colloquium on "Structure and Approximation in Physical Theories" held at Osnabruck in June 1980. The articles are presented in the revised form written after the colloquium and hence also take account of the results of the discussion at the colloquium. It is a striking feature that the problem of approximation in physical theories has only recently found some attention in the philosophy of science, although the working physicist is con stantly confronted (...) with those questions. No interesting theory of exact science exactly fits its experimental data; almost every relation between different theories is an approximate one. There fore an adequate reconstruction of physical theories must take into account and conceptualize the moment of approximation. The majority of the articles in this book is centered around this subject. There are at least two elaborate, 'structuralistic' approaches to the formalization of physical theories in which the aspect of approximation has been incorporated: the approach due to P. Suppes, J. Sneed, W. Stegmuller ("S-approach") and the approach of G. Lud wig and his co-workers ("L-approach"). The articles in this book correspondingly fall into three classes: presentation, elaboration and critique of the L-approach [Hartkamper/Schmidt, Ludwig, Neumann, Werner, Schmidt, Mayr, Kamiah, Majer, Grafe] or of the S-approach [Moulines, Balzer, Cooke], and articles referring to both approaches or concerned with related matters [Scheibe, Pfarr, Castrigiano]. A collaboration has been arranged for the preparation and publication in three dual-language volumes within the Hegel series presently in preparation by Fr. Frommanns Verlag of new critical editions of Hegel’s 1821 Lectures on the Philosophy of Religion, to be included in one volume with the up to now unpublished first form of his Encyclopedia, and Hegel’s 1824 Lectures on the Philosophy of Religion, in two volumes. The new German editions are to be prepared by Professor Dr. K.-H. Ilting. The (...) English translations are to be prepared by Professor Darrel E. Christensen. The differentiation of trait anxiety and depression in nonclinical and clinical populations is addressed. Following the tripartite model, it is assumed that anxiety and depression share a large portion of negative affectivity, but differ with respect to bodily hyperarousal and anhedonia. In contrast to the tripartite model, NA is subdivided into worry and dysthymia, which leads to a four-variable model of anxiety and depression encompassing emotionality, worry, dysthymia, and anhedonia. Item-level confirmatory factor analyses and latent class cluster analysis based on (...) a large nation-wide representative German sample substantiate the construct validity of the model. Further evidence concerning convergent and discriminant validity with respect to related constructs is obtained in two smaller nonclinical and clinical samples. Factors influencing the association between components of anxiety and depression are discussed. (shrink)

Two simply typed term systems $\sf {PR}_1$ and $\sf {PR}_2$ are considered, both for representing algorithms computing primitive recursive functions. $\sf {PR}_1$ is based on primitive recursion, $\sf {PR}_2$ on recursion on notation. A purely syntactical method of determining the computational complexity of algorithms in $\sf {PR}_i$ , called $\mu$ -measure, is employed to uniformly integrate traditional results in subrecursion theory with resource-free characterisations of sub-elementary complexity classes. Extending the Schwichtenberg and Müller characterisation of the Grzegorczyk classes ${\mathcal{E}}_n$ for $n\ge (...) 3$ , it is shown $\mathcal{E}_{n+1} = \mathcal{R}^n_1 $ for $ n\ge 1 $, where $ \mathcal{R}^n_i$ denotes the \emph{ $n$ th modified Heinermann class} based on $\mu$ . The proof does not refer to any machine-based computation model, unlike the Schwichtenberg and Müller proofs. This is due to the notion of modified recursion lying on top of each other provided by $\mu$ . By Ritchie's result, $\mathcal{R}^1_1$ characterises the linear-space computable functions. Using the same method, a short and straightforward proof is presented, showing that $\mathcal{R}^1_2$ characterises the polynomial time computable functions. Furthermore, the classes $\mathcal{R}^n_2$ and $\mathcal{R}^n_1$ coincide at and above level 2. (shrink)

Hermeneutik und Wissenschaftstheorie, die von unterschiedlichen Voraussetzungen ausgehen, konvergieren in ihrer Bemühung um die Sprache. Der universale Anspruch der Hermeneutik kann aber nicht sprachphilosophisch begründet werden, sondern liegt auf der Ebene einer Metatheorie der wissenschaftlichen Arbeit überhaupt. Diese Ebene ist von den positiven Wissenschaften aus, durch die in ihnen ansetzende hermeneutische Reflexion zu erreichen. Wird diese Reflexion von den historischen Geisteswissenschaften aus angestellt, zeigt sich für die Wissenschaften überhaupt, daß ihr Wirkungsfeld gesellschaftlich-geschichtlich strukturiert ist. Im Anschluß an die Kantische Erkenntnistheorie (...) lassen sich allgemeine Erkenntnisprinzipien gewinnen, die den gemeinsamen Boden wissenschaftlicher Tätigkeit und außerwissenschaftlicher individueller und gesellschaftlicher Lebenspraxis bestimmen.
