  15. Transcendent Justice? Legal and Philosophical Perspectives.Ion Copoeru & Andrea-Annamaria Chiş - 2017 - Studia Universitatis Babeş-Bolyai Philosophia:69-79.
In this paper, we shall use the perspectival view on justice in an attempt to accommodate the transcendent view on justice with the adversarial practice of justice. Its main idea is that, before seeing justice as administration, it has to be seen in itself. The first section of the paper discusses the meaning of justice from a phenomenological point of view, which enables us to envision justice as transcendent. The second section of the paper describes the pluri-perspectivism of law and (...)

The goal of this paper is primarily to pinpoint some substantial analytical and conceptual difficulties with the account of knowledge how proposed by (Stanley & Williamson, Knowing How, 2001) [henceforth S&W] and (Stanley, Knowing (How), 2011), (Stanley, Know How, 2011) based on (Groenendijk & Stokhof, 1984) [henceforth G&S] semantic analysis of embedded questions. In light of such difficulties, (1) we propose supplementing their account with an integrated approach of knowledge how, and suggest adding a mereological layer to the semantic framework (...)

Descartes or the origins of modern thinking.Ion Cordoneanu - 2016 - Annals of Philosophy, Social and Human Disciplines 2 (1):53-65.
Descartes is considered to be the founder of modern rationalism. This is a clear statement which, however, does not show the manner in which rationalism as such appeared in the history of science, taking into account the turmoil of the Renaissance centuries, the significance of the Reform and the birth of modern science. As a founder of a new metaphysics, Descartes, through his work, remains par excellence the case in which the scholastic and Renaissance aftermaths as well as the Reform (...)

On The Philosophy With Juridical Norms.Ion Craiovan - 2008 - Proceedings of the Xxii World Congress of Philosophy 40:31-38.
My paper tackles the generic relationship between philosophy and law, the necessity of applying philosophy to law, the legitimacy and range of such an approach, the configuration of the way in which philosophy has left its mark in the juridical sphere. It surveys, in a chronological order, as well as in terms of their co-existence, the various stages of the relationship between philosophy and law. 1. Although both have been “within the walls”, law secludes itself, relatively speaking, in “the world (...)

    Structured Propositions, Unity, and the Sense-Nonsense Distinction.Octavian Ion - 2018 - Croatian Journal of Philosophy 18 (2):319-334.
Back in the Good Old Days of Logical Positivism, theories of meaning were part of a normative project that sought not merely to describe the features of language and its use, but so to speak to separate the wheat from the chaff. In this paper, I side with Herman Cappelen (2013) in thinking that we need to rethink and reintroduce the important distinction between sense and nonsense that was ditched along with other normative aspirations during Logical Positivism’s spectacular demise. Despite (...)

Metaphysics of Infinity: The Problem of Motion and the Infinite Brain.Ion G. Soteropoulos - 2013 - Lanham: Upa.
Ion Soteropoulos reconciles the contradiction between the finite and infinite and transforms this reconciliation into the founding principle of motion. This book will appeal to readers interested in the logical mechanics of the physical universe, the hidden powers of our finite brain, and the utility of robots in the future.

Mycenaean Centaurs at Ugarit.Ione Mylonas Shear - 2002 - Journal of Hellenic Studies 122:147-153.
The identification of two Mycenaean terracotta centaurs from the excavations at Ras Shamra-Ugarit suggests a Bronze Age origin for the centaurs known from the historic periods of Greece. The Mycenaean centaurs from Ras Shamra-Ugarit are compared to the later examples from the Greek mainland. No continuous artistic tradition can be identified among the preserved examples. Since writing ceased to be used in Greece in the Iron Age and no artistic trend connecting the different representations of centaurs can be seen, it (...)

Religie si ideologie la Mircea Eliade/ Religion and Ideology at Mircea Eliade.Ion Cordoneanu - 2005 - Journal for the Study of Religions and Ideologies 4 (10):219-231.
his study attempts to reveal how ideology can be a determinative exponent for a negative interpretation of religion. Ideology and its processes are such powerful inducements that even a spirit like Eliade’s (or Heidegger’s, Sartre’s, Cioran’s, and Noica’s, in the 20th century) couldn’t resist them. This text also reveals, in its connotation, that an impersonal interpretation is preferred for one who is defined by political or, generally speaking, ideological motives.

Anatomy collections as “modern ruins”: The nostalgia of lonely specimens.Alexandra Ion - 2021 - Science in Context 34 (2):265-279.
ArgumentThis text is a reflection on the fate of a special kind of scientific object - anatomy collections - and their place in contemporary times. Though the phenomenon of keeping and displaying such collections is generally dying out, those specimens which survive continue to puzzle and fascinate us. To understand the current status of such collections, and the nostalgia evoked by the specimens within them, I argue, we should approach them as modern ruins. This allows us to think of them (...)

Cognitive Control: Componential and Yet Emergent.Ion Juvina - 2011 - Topics in Cognitive Science 3 (2):242-246.
In this commentary, I will argue that the componential and emergent views of cognitive control as defined by Cooper (2010) do not necessarily oppose each other, and I will try to make a case for their interdependence. First, I will use the construct of cognitive inhibition—one of the main componential control functions mentioned in the target articles—to illustrate my line of reasoning. Then, I will comment on how some of the target articles, each from a different perspective, bring arguments in (...)

Experience and hermeneutics in the history of religions – a hypothesis on Mircea Eliade's work.Ion Cordoneanu - 2007 - Journal for the Study of Religions and Ideologies 6 (16):40-46.
The aim of this study is to analyse the fundamentals of Eliade’s view of the History of Religions, with a focus on the origins of this view, in the context of the criticism against the field of study corresponding to religious studies as they have developed over the last two centuries. The first part of the study briefly evaluates religious studies as to where it falls on a spectrum ranging from scientific objectivity to ideology, while the second part aims at (...)

Mircea Eliade şi semnificaţia antropologică a simbolismului religios/ Mircea Eliade and the anthropological signification of religious symbolism.Ion Cordoneanu - 2006 - Journal for the Study of Religions and Ideologies 5 (15):25-30.
The religious consciousness functions symbolically. As the orientation towards the sacred belongs to consciousness, human existence is constituently symbolic. For Eliade, symbolism is an immediate given of consciousness, an essential object of intelligence that belongs to human beings and can be found in any existential situation of man in cosmos. If, according to Eliade, the religious history of humanity begins with the existence of the sacred, with those infinite hierophanies which organize the world and fill it with significances, then we (...)
