Ontologization of Transcendentalism. Historical-Intentional Aspect of Heidegger’s Interpretation of Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason.Norbert Leśniewski - 2013 - Dialogue and Universalism 23 (2):87-99.
The paper aims to reconstruct Heidegger’s historical-intentional assumptions in his ontological interpretation of Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason. The paper presents young Heidegger’s project of the “metaphysical-teleological interpretation of consciousness.” The project indicates the direction of his further ontological interpretation of transcendentalism: Heidegger stands up to the traditional, well known neo-Kantian interpretation of the Critique, and offers a new conception of ontological knowledge and cognition. According to this conception, cognition is grounded in transcendental imagination where a threefold synthesis takes place. (...)

  4. Perspectivism in Heidegger’s Nietzsche.Norbert Leśniewski - 2010 - Archiwum Historii Filozofii I Myśli Społecznej 55.
The point of departure in the paper is the problem of Heidegger’s interpretation of Nietzsche’s thought in the light of the problematic term “Perspektivismus”. The author explicates the methodological position taken by Heidegger in his interpretation to give an answer to the question of epistemical, ontological or methodological domain of perspectivism.

In a recent essay Professor Taylor criticizes the criteria used by Rosenblueth, Wiener and Bigelow in 1943 to distinguish purposeful from non-purposeful behavior. He also criticizes our definition of behavior, our concept of the vague as opposed to the general, our use of the word correlation, and our statement that a system may reach a final condition. Indeed, there seems to be little, if anything, in our paper to which he does not emphatically object. He maintains that the notions of purpose (...)

  8. The Epsilon-Reconstruction of Theories and Scientific Structuralism.Georg Schiemer & Norbert Gratzl - 2016 - Erkenntnis 81 (2):407-432.
Rudolf Carnap’s mature work on the logical reconstruction of scientific theories consists of two components. The first is the elimination of the theoretical vocabulary of a theory in terms of its Ramsification. The second is the reintroduction of the theoretical terms through explicit definitions in a language containing an epsilon operator. This paper investigates Carnap’s epsilon-reconstruction of theories in the context of pure mathematics. The main objective here is twofold: first, to specify the epsilon logic underlying his suggested definition of (...)

?That's not fair!? argumentational integrity as an ethics of argumentative communication.Margrit Schreier, Norbert Groeben & Ursula Christmann - 1995 - Argumentation 9 (2):267-289.
The article introduces the concept of ‘argumentational integrity’ as the basis for developing ethical criteria by which contributions to argumentative discussions can be evaluated; the focus is on the derivation, definition, and specification of the concept. The derivation of the concept starts out from a prescriptive use of ‘argumentation’, entailing in particular the goal of a rational as well as a cooperative solution. In order to make this goal attainable, contributions to argumentative discussions must meet certain conditions. It is assumed (...)

Implicit Measures of Attitudes.Bernd Wittenbrink & Norbert Schwarz (eds.) - 2007 - Guilford Press.
Increasingly used in social and behavioral science research, implicit measures aim to assess attitudes that respondents may not be willing to report directly, or of which they may not even be aware. This timely book brings together leading investigators to review currently available procedures and offer practical recommendations for their implementation and interpretation. The theoretical bases of the various approaches are explored and their respective strengths and limitations are critically examined. The volume also discusses current controversies facing the field and (...)

Zionist Internationalism through Number Theory: Edmund Landau at the Opening of the Hebrew University in 1925.Leo Corry & Norbert Schappacher - 2010 - Science in Context 23 (4):427-471.
ArgumentThis article gives the background to a public lecture delivered in Hebrew by Edmund Landau at the opening ceremony of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem in 1925. On the surface, the lecture appears to be a slightly awkward attempt by a distinguished German-Jewish mathematician to popularize a few number-theoretical tidbits. However, quite unexpectedly, what emerges here is Landau's personal blend of Zionism, German nationalism, and the proud ethos of pure, rigorous mathematics – against the backdrop of the situation of Germany (...)

Recruitment problems and the shortage of junior corporate farm managers in Germany: the role of gender-specific assessments and life aspirations.Mira Lehberger & Norbert Hirschauer - 2016 - Agriculture and Human Values 33 (3):611-624.
Replacements for corporate farm managers are increasingly hard to find. At the same time, there is a large pool of potential managers that has been hardly tapped into: young female professionals. Focusing on the supply side of the labor market for farm managers, we investigate how gender-specific life aspirations impact occupational intention. To explain gender-specific occupational intention, we operationalize two conceptual frameworks: a behavioral economic conceptualization that focuses on the material and non-material cost and benefits associated with occupational choice, and (...)

Philosophie, Gesellschaft Und Bildung in Zeiten der Globalisierung.Hermann-Josef Scheidgen, Norbert Hintersteiner & Yoshiro Nakamura (eds.) - 2005 - Brill | Rodopi.

The collected works of Norbert Elias.Norbert Elias - 2006 - Dublin: University College Dublin Press.
Elias wrote in both English and German, and in all his work runs to 14 books and around 90 other essays, along with poems and numerous interviews. The 18 volumes of the collected works contain many writings not previously published in English, and a small number never published before. All of the texts have thoroughly checked and revised, by editors who have a deep knowledge of Elia's thinking; they have inserted many clarifications, cross-references and explanatory notes.

Bekannte Vertreter der italienischen, japanischen, russischen und deutschen Kantforschung kommen zu Wort. What is Sociology?Norbert Elias - 1978 - University College Dublin Press.
What is Sociology? presents in concise and provocative form the major ideas of a seminal thinker whose work--spanning more than four decades--is only now gaining the recognition here it has long had in Germany and France. Unlike other post-war sociologists, Norbert Elias has always held the concept of historical development among his central concerns; his dynamic theories of the evolution of modern man have remedied the historical and epistemological shortcomings of structualism and ethno-methodology. What is Sociology? refines the arguments (...)

The objective of this article is to analyse and compare four methods of ethical case deliberation. These include Clinical Pragmatism, The Nijmegen Method of ethical case deliberation, Hermeneutic dialogue, and Socratic dialogue. The origin of each method will be briefly sketched. Furthermore, the methods as well as the related protocols will be presented. Each method will then be evaluated against the background of those situations in which it is being used. The article aims to show that there is not one (...)

Carey's book on conceptual change and the accompanying argument that children's biology initially is organized in terms of naïve psychology has sparked a great detail of research and debate. This body of research on children's biology has, however, been almost exclusively been based on urban, majority culture children in the US or in other industrialized nations. The development of folkbiological knowledge may depend on cultural and experiential background. If this is the case, then urban majority culture children may prove to (...)

In 2021, Germany passed the first law worldwide that regulates dilemma situations with autonomous cars. Against this background, this article investigates the permissibility of trade-offs between human lives in the context of self-driving cars. It does so by drawing on the debate about the traditional trolley problem. In contrast to most authors in the relevant literature, it argues that the debate about the trolley problem is both directly and indirectly relevant for the ethics of crashes with self-driving cars. Drawing on (...)
