Evyatar Marienberg, Niddah.

    (1 other version)Gisèle HALIMI, La Kahina.

    MOTS‐c: A Mitochondrial‐Encoded Regulator of the Nucleus.Bérénice A. Benayoun & Changhan Lee - 2019 - Bioessays 41 (9):1900046.
Mitochondria are increasingly being recognized as information hubs that sense cellular changes and transmit messages to other cellular components, such as the nucleus, the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), the Golgi apparatus, and lysosomes. Nonetheless, the interaction between mitochondria and the nucleus is of special interest because they both host part of the cellular genome. Thus, the communication between genome‐bearing organelles would likely include gene expression regulation. Multiple nuclear‐encoded proteins have been known to regulate mitochondrial gene expression. On the contrary, no mitochondrial‐encoded (...)

Creativity through Autonomy: The Real Challenge of the Computer Art Today.Nikoleta Kerinska - 2023 - Balkan Journal of Philosophy 15 (1):69-76.
This paper questions the notion of creativity found in certain artworks produced with A.I. technologies. The artistic examples concerned are: The Giver of names by David Rokeby, Oscar by Catherine Ikam and Louis Fléri, and Emotion Vending Machine by Maurice Benayoun. These artworks were selected because they stand out for their autonomous behavior in front of the human public. In this context, creativity is revealed as a consequence of the functional autonomy, which is very typical of these pieces of (...)

Against the grain? The craving for domestic femininity in a gender-egalitarian welfare state.Helene Aarseth - 2021 - European Journal of Women's Studies 28 (2):229-243.
This article aims to develop new conceptions of the psychosocial dynamics that drive the re-romanticization of domestic femininity in current financialized capitalism. Feminist scholars have described this heightened cultivation of mothering as a reparative move in response to irreconcilable tensions between cultural ideals of the ‘balancing mother’ and ‘lean-in femininity’. This article adds a materialist-psychosocial lens to these conceptions, to enhance understanding of what drives this craving for domestic femininity. Drawing on a free-association narrative interview study with couples in the (...)

Passing on Feminism: From Consciousness to Reflexivity?Lisa Adkins - 2004 - European Journal of Women's Studies 11 (4):427-444.
As has been widely observed, histories of feminism have often been conceived via notions of generation where feminism is positioned as a kind of familial property, a form of inheritance and legacy which is transmitted through generations. Thus feminism and its history have been imagined as following a familial mode of social reproduction. Despite the dominance of this model, it has nonetheless been subject to critique, not least because of its reliance on teleological and progressive notions of history. Judith Roof, (...)

Yearning for affection: Traumatic bonding between Korean ‘comfort women’ and Japanese soldiers during World War II.Yonson Ahn - 2019 - European Journal of Women's Studies 26 (4):360-374.
This work analyses the complex and contentious issues of mutual affection and codependency in relationships between Korean ‘comfort women’ and Japanese soldiers during World War II. Drawing on a combination of interviews and published resources, it explores the groups’ perceptions of one another within the framework of ‘traumatic bonding’. Despite traumatic violence and stark inequalities, this article finds nuanced contributions from the parties involved. For the soldiers, the relationships provided a form of emotional relief from the violence of war and (...)

Bridging Home and Work in the Transition to Motherhood: A Discursive Study.Lucy Bailey - 2000 - European Journal of Women's Studies 7 (1):53-70.
This article examines the relationship between discourses of motherhood and discourses of employment for contemporary middle-class women. Drawing on data from a study of the transition to motherhood conducted in Bristol, UK, it is suggested that there are important continuities as well as con icts between the discursive construction of these two spheres. In consequence, a variety of relationships may be established between mothering and employment identities. The concept of `inter-spatiality' is suggested to conceptualize how the women negotiated the relationship (...)

For over 14 centuries, Muslim men have misinterpreted a verse of the Quran to allow themselves to beat their wives. The Sublime Quran, the first critical English translation of the Quran by a woman, corrects this error and shows how it has created a contradiction not inherent in the Quran itself.
