RETRACTED: Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale-12: Psychometric Properties of This Construct Among Iranian Undergraduate Students.Balachandran Vadivel, Zahra Azadfar, Mansor Abu Talib, Dhameer A. Mutlak, Wanich Suksatan, Abbas Abd Ali Abbood, Mohammed Q. Sultan, Kelly A. Allen, Indrajit Patra, Ali Thaeer Hammid, Abbas Abdollahi & Supat Chupradit - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13:894316.
BackgroundUncertainty intolerance (IU), the tendency to think or react negatively toward uncertain events may have implication on individuals’ mental health and psychological wellbeing. The Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale-12 (IU-12) is commonly used across the globe to measure IU, however, its’ psychometric properties are yet to be evaluated in Iran with a Persian-speaking population. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to translate and validate the IU-12 among Iranian undergraduate students.Materials and MethodsThe multi-stage cluster random sampling was employed to recruit 410 (...)

Secure Fingerprint Authentication Using Deep Learning and Minutiae Verification.S. Vadivel, Saad Bayezeed & V. M. Praseetha - 2019 - Journal of Intelligent Systems 29 (1):1379-1387.
Nowadays, there has been an increase in security concerns regarding fingerprint biometrics. This problem arises due to technological advancements in bypassing and hacking methodologies. This has sparked the need for a more secure platform for identification. In this paper, we have used a deep Convolutional Neural Network as a pre-verification filter to filter out bad or malicious fingerprints. As deep learning allows the system to be more accurate at detecting and reducing false identification by training itself again and again with (...)

    A Novel Discrete-Time Leslie–Gower Model with the Impact of Allee Effect in Predator Population.S. Vinoth, R. Sivasamy, K. Sathiyanathan, B. Unyong, R. Vadivel & Nallappan Gunasekaran - 2022 - Complexity 2022:1-21.
The discrete-time system has more complex and chaotic dynamical behaviors as compared to the continuous-time system. This paper extends a discrete Leslie–Gower predator-prey system with the Allee effect in the predator’s population, whose dynamics are analyzed and explored. We have determined the equilibrium points and studied their local stability properties. We find that the system undergoes flip bifurcation and Neimark–Sacker bifurcation around the interior equilibrium point by choosing the Allee parameter as a bifurcation parameter. We discuss the stability and direction (...)

COVID-19 and two sides of the coin of religiosity.Sergei V. Kolganov, Balachandran Vadivel, Mark Treve, Dono Kalandarova & Natalia V. Fedorova - 2022 - HTS Theological Studies 78 (4):7.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) first appeared in China in late 2019 and since then it has become a pandemic. Various countries, in accordance with their cultures, have adopted different approaches to deal with the spread of this disease. Implementation of Improved Ship-Iceberg Classifier Using Deep Learning.Vadivel Sangili & Ankita Rane - 2019 - Journal of Intelligent Systems 29 (1):1514-1522.
The application of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) for ship and iceberg monitoring is important to carry out marine activities safely. The task of differentiating the two target classes, i.e. ship and iceberg, presents a challenge for operational scenarios. The dataset comprising SAR images of ship and iceberg poses a major challenge, as we are provided with a small number of labeled samples in the training set compared to a large number of unlabeled test samples. This paper proposes a semisupervised learning (...)

Citrate transport and metabolism in mammalian cells.Maria E. Mycielska, Ameet Patel, Nahit Rizaner, Maciej P. Mazurek, Hector Keun, Anup Patel, Vadivel Ganapathy & Mustafa B. A. Djamgoz - 2009 - Bioessays 31 (1):10-20.
Citrate, an organic trivalent anion, is a major substrate for generation of energy in most cells. It is produced in mitochondria and used either in the Krebs' cycle or released into cytoplasm through a specific mitochondrial carriers. Citrate can also be taken up from blood through different plasma membrane transporters. In the cytoplasm, citrate can be used ultimately for fatty acid synthesis, which is increased in cancer cells. Here, we review the ways in which citrate can be transported and discuss (...)

The Soul‐Friendship of Two People of Differing Sex.Ruth Abbey - 2000 - In Nietzsche's middle period. New York: Oxford University Press.
At times in the works of the middle period, Friedrich Nietzsche accepts that higher friendship is possible between men and women, and holds love and marriage in high esteem. Sometimes, he even models marriage on friendship. While he does say some damning things about love and marriage, this chapter tries to balance his critical comments against his more positive ones to allow for a clearer, albeit more complex, appreciation of his stance to be achieved. This analysis also requires some reconsideration (...)

Hired as a Caregiver, Demanded as a Housewife: Becoming a Migrant Domestic Worker in Turkey.Ayşe Akalin - 2007 - European Journal of Women's Studies 14 (3):209-225.
Women from post-socialist countries started migrating to Turkey in the second half of the 1990s to work in the domestic work sector. Migrant domestics have formed their niche as live-in caregivers, due to the disinclination of the existing local labour power to work in the care sector. Yet, the employer mothers, besides asking their live-in workers to tend their children, often demand that they also do the daily chores in the home, purposely leaving the heavy cleaning to their Turkish domestics. The Sublime Quran: The misinterpretation of Chapter 4 Verse 34.Laleh Bakhtiar - 2011 - European Journal of Women's Studies 18 (4):431-439.
For over 14 centuries, Muslim men have misinterpreted a verse of the Quran to allow themselves to beat their wives. The Sublime Quran, the first critical English translation of the Quran by a woman, corrects this error and shows how it has created a contradiction not inherent in the Quran itself.
