Parental burnout is a unique and context-specific syndrome resulting from a chronic imbalance of risks over resources in the parenting domain. The current research aims to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the Parental Burnout Assessment across Spanish-speaking countries with two consecutive studies. In Study 1, we analyzed the data through a bifactor model within an Exploratory Structural Equation Modeling on the pooled sample of participants obtaining good fit indices. We then attained measurement invariance across both gender (...)

Where the public health principles meet the individual: a framework for the ethics of compulsory outpatient treatment in psychiatry.Sérgio M. Martinho, Bárbara Santa-Rosa & Margarida Silvestre - 2022 - BMC Medical Ethics 23 (1):1-9.
Background Compulsory treatments represent a legal means of imposing treatment on an individual, usually with a mental illness, who refuses therapeutic intervention and poses a risk of self-harm or harm to others. Compulsory outpatient treatment in psychiatry, also known as community treatment order, is a modality of involuntary treatment that broadens the therapeutic imposition beyond hospitalization and into the community. Despite its existence in over 75 jurisdictions worldwide, COT is currently one of the most controversial topics in psychiatry, and it (...)

    When is a trait an adaptation?Sergio M. Pellis - 2002 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 25 (4):524-524.
The authors outline research strategies that may identify the possible adaptive value of a trait. But this does not solve the problem of how to decide which characteristics of living organisms require an adaptive explanation. I suggest that knowledge of the ontogenetic and phylogenetic construction of a trait facilitates the identification of features that may have been acted on by natural selection.

Emotions in Group Sports: A Narrative Review From a Social Identity Perspective.Mickael Campo, Diane M. Mackie & Xavier Sanchez - 2019 - Frontiers in Psychology 10.
Recently, novel lines of research have developed to study the influence of identity processes in sport-related behaviours. Yet, whereas emotions in sport are the result of a complex psychosocial process, little attention has been paid to examining the mechanisms that underlie how group membership influences athletes’ emotional experiences. The present narrative review aims at complementing the comprehensive review produced by Rees et al. (2015) on social identity in sport by reporting specific work on identity-based emotions in sport. To that end, (...)

The worldwide problem of corruption is one that requires greater knowledge about responsible leadership. Based on the literature on responsible leadership, developmental psychology, and moral development, the purpose of our study is to understand the constructions of the motivational drivers behind the behaviors of a responsible leader. Using biographical and narrative methodologies, we analyzed the individual motivational drivers of Carlos Cavelier, a recognized responsible leaders who grew up and works in Colombia, a social/economic context characterized by institutional fragility and corruption. The purpose of this paper is to present the findings of an investigation into missionary-refugee relationships in Europe. The main research question guiding this study was: How do missionaries understand and describe their relationship with the refugees they serve? The data for this study were collected at an international consultation on ministry with refugees held in the fall of 2017 from 21 missionaries using semi-structured interview protocols. Findings demonstrate that missionaries shared a liminal identity with the refugees in their ministry, (...)

Protecting democracy from disinformation: Implications for a model of communication.Lydia Sánchez & Sergio Villanueva Baselga - 2023 - Empedocles: European Journal for the Philosophy of Communication 14 (1):5-20.
This article analyses the consequences that disinformation phenomena have for a model of communication, focusing on the dangers that disinformation poses to democratic societies, especially when it is disseminated by the media. Disinformation is examined here from the perspective of social cognitive psychology, with special attention to the role played by motivated reasoning and confirmation bias in human cognition. From this perspective, disinformation phenomena should be studied not only through an analysis of how the media operate, but also through an (...)

The word "value" is one of the most used in the current language, and the question of its objectivity is one of the most frequent in the habitual discussions. Nevertheless, very often the answers to this last question are different simply because diverse senses of value are not distinguished. In this article I try to distinguish those possible senses.

El sujeto humano como objeto de la Psicología: las funciones psíquicas en Max Scheler y en Carl Stumpf.Sergio Sánchez-migallón - 2005 - Revista de Filosofía (Madrid) 30 (2):215-228.
Max Scheler defends that the ultimate subject of human acts is different from the “I” often worked upon in Psychology. To show it he distinguishes “acts”, which correspond to the “person”, from “functions”, which correspond to the “I”. In that exposition, developed in his Ethics, he makes reference to an essay by Carl Stumpf about the “psychic functions”. In this paper that same essay is analised and the significance that Scheler gives to it is evaluated.

The Influence of Corporate Sustainability Officers on Performance.Gary F. Peters, Andrea M. Romi & Juan Manuel Sanchez - 2019 - Journal of Business Ethics 159 (4):1065-1087.
The creation of a specialized executive position that oversees sustainability activities represents a distinct shift in the structure of top management teams and their approach for addressing sustainability concerns. However, little is known about these management team members, namely the corporate sustainability officers or CSOs. We examine CSO appointments and their association with subsequent sustainability performance. Our results indicate that the creation of a CSO position may represent more of a symbolic versus substantive governance mechanism. Further tests suggest that CSO (...)

    Transforming Human Resource Management Systems to Cope with Diversity.Fernando Martín-Alcázar, Pedro M. Romero-Fernández & Gonzalo Sánchez-Gardey - 2012 - Journal of Business Ethics 107 (4):511-531.
The purpose of this study is to examine how workgroup diversity can be managed through specific strategic human resource management systems. Our review shows that ‘affirmative action’ and traditional ‘diversity management’ approaches have failed to simultaneously achieve business and social justice outcomes of diversity. As previous literature has shown, the benefits of diversity cannot be achieved with isolated interventions. To the contrary, a complete organizational culture change is required, in order to promote appreciation of individual differences. The paper contributes to (...)
