Everything flirts: philosophical romances.Sharon Wahl - 2024 - Iowa City: University of Iowa Press.
At the heart of the stories in Everything Flirts are some of life's trickiest questions: Why is it so hard to make the first move on a date? How do we find the person we will love? If you finally find a person to love, how do you convince them to love you back? Searching for love, in all its stages-lustful intoxication through lasting commitment-is a process peppered with unanswerable questions, the kind of questions that philosophers usually like to pursue. Agency and Sovereignty: Georges Bataille's Anti-Humanist Conception of Child.Sharon Hunter - 2020 - Journal of Philosophy of Education 54 (5):1186-1200.
Georges Bataille (1887–1962) is one of the most significant thinkers of the 20th century, whose anti-humanist anthropology influenced subsequent existentialist and post-structuralist philosophy. His wide-ranging writings (across philosophy, archaeology, economics, sociology, poetry, erotica and history of art) frequently mention children, childhood and childishness, and yet there has hitherto been little to no attention paid to this aspect of his work. This article opens up a neglected theme in Bataille studies, and also explores the consequences of Bataille's presentation of the human (...)

Towards a balanced approach to identifying conflicts of interest faced by institutional review boards.Sharon Kaur & Sujata Balan - 2015 - Theoretical Medicine and Bioethics 36 (5):341-361.
The welfare and protection of human subjects is critical to the integrity of clinical investigation and research. Institutional review boards were thus set up to be impartial reviewers of research protocols in clinical research. Their main role is to stand between the investigator and her human subjects in order to ensure that the welfare of human subjects are protected. While there is much literature on the conflicts of interest faced by investigators and researchers in clinical investigations, an area that is (...)

Decision rules used by male and female business students in making ethical value judgments: Another look. [REVIEW]Sharon Galbraith & Harriet Buckman Stephenson - 1993 - Journal of Business Ethics 12 (3):227 - 233.
This study was conducted to corroborate findings that females invoke a decision rule that is significantly different from that of their male counterparts when making ethical value judgements. In addition, the study examines whether the same decision rule is used by men and women for all types of ethical situations. The results show that males and females use different decision rules when making ethical evaluations, although there are types of situations where there are no significant differences in decision rules used (...)

But that night, TJ starts having unusually vivid dreams that take him back to the middle of the nineteenth century, where he learns about the American philosophical movement known as Transcendentalism and where he is introduced to a man living in an identical cabin, this one on the shore of Walden Pond: Henry David Thoreau. TJ soon learns that (...)

Cosmopolitanism and Human Rights.Sharon Anderson-Gold - 2001 - Cardiff: University of Wales Press.
If human rights express the equal claim of every person to the recognition and protection of their vital interests, they necessarily assert universal obligations of justice that cross borders. Sharon Anderson-Gold asks here whether there is a normative consensus on human rights and articulates the role of a cosmopolitan or global community in shaping the theory and practice of international politics. She considers several important works in the field of universal human rights and discusses whether a cosmopolitan system of (...)

Lettre de Jean Wahl à Martin Heidegger.Ian Alexander Moore & Barbara Wahl - 2021 - Journal of French and Francophone Philosophy 29 (1-2):169-172.
33. A Darwinian dilemma for realist theories of value.Sharon Street - 2006 - Philosophical Studies 127 (1):109-166.
Contemporary realist theories of value claim to be compatible with natural science. In this paper, I call this claim into question by arguing that Darwinian considerations pose a dilemma for these theories. The main thrust of my argument is this. Evolutionary forces have played a tremendous role in shaping the content of human evaluative attitudes. The challenge for realist theories of value is to explain the relation between these evolutionary influences on our evaluative attitudes, on the one hand, and the (...)

The globalization of production and trade has contributed to the rise in complex global value chains where the reach of state regulation is limited. As an alternative, private regulation, developed and administered by companies, industry associations, and nongovernmental organizations, has emerged to safeguard economic, environmental, and social sustainability in producer countries and along the value chain. The academic literature on private regulation in global value chains has grown over the last decade, but currently few major reviews of the research have (...)
