Effects of Tool Novelty and Action Demands on Gaze Searching During Tool Observation.Yoshinori Tamaki, Satoshi Nobusako, Yusaku Takamura, Yu Miyawaki, Moe Terada & Shu Morioka - 2020 - Frontiers in Psychology 11.
Technical reasoning refers to making inferences about how to use tools. The degree of technical reasoning is indicated by the bias of the gaze on the functional part of the tool when in use. Few studies have examined whether technical reasoning differs between familiar and unfamiliar novel tools. In addition, what effect the intention to use the tool has on technical reasoning has not been determined. This study examined gaze shifts in relation to familiar or unfamiliar tools, under three conditions, (...)

  2. Revisiting the two predominant statistical problems: the stopping-rule problem and the catch-all hypothesis problem.Yusaku Ohkubo - 2021 - Annals of the Japan Association for Philosophy of Science 30:23-41.
The history of statistics is filled with many controversies, in which the prime focus has been the difference in the “interpretation of probability” between Fre- quentist and Bayesian theories. Many philosophical arguments have been elabo- rated to examine the problems of both theories based on this dichotomized view of statistics, including the well-known stopping-rule problem and the catch-all hy- pothesis problem. However, there are also several “hybrid” approaches in theory, practice, and philosophical analysis. This poses many fundamental questions. This paper (...)

Verifiable record of AI output for privacy protection: public space watched by AI-connected cameras as a target example.Yusaku Fujii - forthcoming - AI and Society:1-10.
AI systems, which receive vast amounts of information including privacy information, are emerging. Protecting the privacy of the general public is an important issue for democracies. In this study, “Public space watched by AI- connected cameras” is taken as an example of an AI-system that is expected to be used for public purposes and has a relatively high privacy violation risk. It is defined as a wide public area where every point is monitored by multiple AI-connected street cameras. The following (...)

    Powers of positive elements in C *-algebras.Hiroki Takamura - 2011 - Mathematical Logic Quarterly 57 (5):481-484.
In this paper, we show that Ogasawa’s theorem has a proof in Bishop style constructive mathematics . In 25, we introduced the elementary constructive theory of C*-algebras in BISH, but we did not discuss the powers of positive elements there. © 2011 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.

Semisimplicity, EDPC and Discriminator Varieties of Bounded Weak-commutative Residuated Lattices with an S4-like Modal Operator.Hiroki Takamura - 2012 - Studia Logica 100 (6):1137-1148.
In this paper, we show that all semisimple varieties of bounded weak-commutative residuated lattices with an S4-like modal operator are discriminator varieties. We also give a characterization of discriminator and EDPC varieties of bounded weak-commutative residuated lattices with an S4-like modal operator follows.

参照構造を持つ Xml 上の高速な到達可能性判定.Maita Tetsuya Nakamura Yusaku - 2007 - Transactions of the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence 22 (2):191-199.
We propose an efficient algorithm for deciding the reachability between any nodes on XML data represented by connected directed graphs. We develop a technique to reduce the size of the reference table for the reachability test. Using the small table and the standard range labeling method for rooted ordered trees, we show that our algorithm answers almost queries in a constant time preserving the space efficiency and a reasonable preprocessing time.

Campus Diversity: The Hidden Consensus.John M. Carey, Katherine Clayton & Yusaku Horiuchi - 2019 - Cambridge University Press.
Media, politicians, and the courts portray college campuses as divided over diversity and affirmative action. But what do students and faculty really think? This book uses a novel technique to elicit honest opinions from students and faculty and measure preferences for diversity in undergraduate admissions and faculty recruitment at seven major universities, breaking out attitudes by participants' race, ethnicity, gender, socio-economic status, and political partisanship. Scholarly excellence is a top priority everywhere, but the authors show that when students consider individual (...)

    Kindai Bijutsu : Die Rezeption Westlicher Kunstkonzepte in Japan Um 1900.Jeanne Fichtner-Egloff - 2018 - J.B. Metzler.
Gleichzeitig entstanden in (...)
