Cảm xúc là yếu tố cơ bản thúc đẩy con người đưa ra quyết định và xử lý thông tin. Sợ hãi là một trong những cảm xúc phổ biến nhất ảnh hưởng đến hành vi của nhà đầu tư cá nhân trên thị trường chứng khoán. Mặc dù nhiều nghiên cứu đã được thực hiện để khám phá tác động của nỗi sợ hãi đối với hiệu quả đầu tư và hành vi giao dịch của nhà đầu (...) tư cá nhân, nhưng vẫn còn rất ít thông tin về các yếu tố ảnh hưởng đến nỗi sợ hãi của nhà đầu tư cá nhân trong thời kỳ thị trường sụt giảm (hoặc những giai đoạn cực kỳ biến động). Vì thế, nghiên cứu này được thực hiện để tìm hiểu liệu các nguồn thông tin ảnh hưởng đến quyết định đầu tư của nhà đầu tư có ảnh hưởng đến sự sợ hãi của họ khi khủng hoảng xảy ra hay không. Nghiên cứu đã sử dụng phương pháp phân tích Bayesian Mindsponge Framework (BMF) trên bộ dữ liệu từ 1526 nhà đầu tư Trung Quốc và Việt Nam. Kết quả nghiên cứu chỉ ra rằng các nhà đầu tư tiếp cận các loại thông tin khác nhau khi đưa ra quyết định đầu tư sẽ ảnh hưởng đến tần suất phản ứng sợ hãi khác nhau. Cụ thể, các nhà đầu tư tham khảo thông tin từ chuyên gia hoặc tự phân tích khi đưa ra quyết định đầu tư ít bị đóng băng (biểu hiện của tâm lý sợ hãi) hơn trong thời kỳ thị trường sụt giảm. Ngược lại, những người đưa ra quyết định đầu tư dựa trên thông tin từ người quen hay bạn bè và trực giác sẽ bị đóng băng thường xuyên hơn. Kết quả nghiên cứu này giúp gợi ý nhà đầu tư cá nhân nên trang bị cho mình các kiến thức về tài chính cũng như tham khảo các ý kiến chuyên gia trên thị trường, hoặc những nguồn thông tin đáng tin cậy, khi đưa ra quyết định đầu tư. Bên cạnh đó, cơ quan quản lý thị trường cần có hoạt động phổ cập kiến thức về thị trường chứng khoán, hạn chế ảnh hưởng của các kênh thông tin không chính thống, và khuyến khích nhà đầu tư ít kinh nghiệm mua chứng chỉ quỹ của các quỹ đầu tư. O estado, em sentido amplo, pode ser entendido como um conjunto de teorias, cujo núcleo e relações tem despertado, desde muito tempo, o interesse em desvendar por muitos filósofos. O interesse sobre o estado configura a base para os estudos científicos, com o objetivo de prever a evolução, formas e modelos de estado futuros. Nesse sentido, teorizar sobre as formas de estado constitui uma forma concreta que nos ajuda entender a constituição de estados modernos, como, no caso, o estado do (...) Vietnã. Esta pesquisa se perfaz do método da dialética materialista, através da análise e de sínteses para entendermos algumas ideias políticas de Platão. A pesquisa aborda em que medida as ideias platônicas podem contribuir para o entendimento do atual estado de desenvolvimento do Vietnã, na medida em que ele se propõe ser um estado para o povo e pelo povo. Nesse contexto, destacamos a influência das ideias de Platão na para a formação de um estado que prioriza a excelência conjunta e a governança ética, na medida em que se caracteriza pela atemporalidade e pela universalidade de suas ideias. A pesquisa revela, ainda, que a filosofia política de Platão oferece pontos de vista valiosos para a construção de um estado socialista no Vietnã, tais como a promoção de lideranças eficazes, gestão ética e educação para todos. O artigo tem por objetivo principal oferecer uma análise reflexiva de como as ideias políticas de Platão podem contribuir teórica e praticamente para o desenvolvimento do Vietnã. (shrink)

Folklore has a critical role as a cultural transmitter, all the while being a socially accepted medium for the expressions of culturally contradicting wishes and conducts. In this study of Vietnamese folktales, through the use of Bayesian multilevel modeling and the Markov chain Monte Carlo technique, we offer empirical evidence for how the interplay between religious teachings (Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism) and deviant behaviors (lying and violence) could affect a folktale’s outcome. The findings indicate that characters who lie and/or commit (...) violent acts tend to have bad endings, as intuition would dictate, but when they are associated with any of the above Three Teachings, the final endings may vary. Positive outcomes are seen in cases where characters associated with Confucianism lie and characters associated with Buddhism act violently. The results supplement the worldwide literature on discrepancies between folklore and real-life conduct, as well as on the contradictory human behaviors vis-à-vis religious teachings. Overall, the study highlights the complexity of human decision-making, especially beyond the folklore realm. (shrink)

Pastaruoju metu pasaulyje vis labiau populiarėja laimės kaip atskiros socialinių tyrimų srities studijos, nes vis daugiau dėmesio skiriama gyvenimo kokybės aspektams. Mokslininkai sprendžia klausimus: kas lemia, kad žmonės jaučiasi laimingi; ar esame laimingi vienodai; ką tai atskleidžia apie mus kaip visuomenę; ar skirtingų kartų žmonėms laimė reiškia tuos pačius dalykus; ar laisvoje aukštesnio gerbūvio visuomenėje formuojasi laimingesnių žmonių karta.Šiame straipsnyje, pasitelkiant 1990, 1999, 2008 ir 2017 metų Europos vertybių tyrimo duomenis, analizuojama laimės lygio dinamika Lietuvoje, siekiant išsiaiškinti, kaip skirtingi sociodemografiniai (...) ir kultūriniai veiksniai susirikiuoja į subjektyvios gerovės lygtį ir kaip tai susiję su gyventojų kartų kaita, ypatingą dėmesį skiriant vadinamosios Pirmosios nepriklausomybės kartos specifikai. Atlikta statistinė empirinių duomenų analizė atskleidė reikšmingus laimės jausenos skirtumus skirtingose Lietuvos gyventojų socialinėse kartose, net ir kontroliuojant kitus jai įtaką darančius veiksnius. Straipsnyje nagrinėjama prielaida, kad skaitmeniniame amžiuje vis daugiau laiko praleidžiant elektroninėje erdvėje blanksta riba tarp realaus gyvenimo ir gyvenimo internete bei perskyra tarp fizinės ir virtualios tapatybės. Tai reiškia, kad tapatybė skait­meniniame amžiuje skaidosi ir formuojasi iš naujo. Taigi tapatybės transformacija vyksta ne fiziniame ar virtualiame pasaulyje, bet realizuojama kontinuume tarp šių dviejų pasaulių. Straipsnyje bandoma pagrįsti, kad tapatybė, veikiama medijų skaitmeninėje kultūroje, tampa transmedijuota ir drauge išsklaidyta, epizodiška ir interaktyvi, kitaip tariant, ji virsta transmedijos produktu.

Resumo Ao encerrar a sua explicação concernente à noção de Lei, no capítulo VI do segundo livro do Contrato social, Jean-Jacques Rousseau apresenta algumas inquietações referentes à capacidade de uma população prematura elaborar um sistema de legislação. Tais inquietações conduzem o pensador genebrino a preconizar a necessidade de uma figura polêmica e excepcional, na engrenagem política republicana: o legislador. Considerando a excepcionalidade dessa figura, o presente artigo sustentará a hipótese de que, mais do que alguém hábil em formular um conjunto (...) de leis para um determinado povo, a função republicana primordial de um legislador é a de contribuir para engendrar um espírito público em cada cidadão pertencente à república. A hipótese aventada será defendida a partir de três objetivos: primeiro, examinar-se-ão as razões pelas quais Rousseau julga ser necessário um legislador na ordenação republicana; segundo, analisar-se-á por que a construção de um espírito público pelo legislador pode ser considerada uma função republicana; terceiro, perscrutar-se-ão quais são as condições necessárias para um povo receber uma boa legislação.In closing his explanation concerning the notion of law, in chapter VI of the second book of the Social contract, Jean-Jacques Rousseau has some concerns about the ability of a premature population to develop a legislation system. Such concerns lead the Genevan thinker to advocate the need for a controversial and exceptional personage in the republican political machinery: The legislator. Considering the exceptionality of this personage, this article will support the hypothesis that, more than being one skilled at presenting a set of laws to a particular people, the primary republican function assigned to the legislator is to contribute to engender a public spirit in every citizen belonging to the republic. The hypothesis presented will be defended from three objectives: first, I shall examine the reasons why Rousseau deems it necessary to have a legislator in the republican order; Second, I shall analyze why the construction of a public spirit by the legislator may be considered a republican function; third, I shall look into the conditions necessary for a people to receive a good legislation. Este ensaio defende a hipótese segundo a qual a metafísica platônica não pode ser exclusivamente definida a partir de seu objeto, as Formas ou Ideias, mas também deveria ser tomada a partir de seu método, o qual se realiza lidando com as Formas como instrumentos metodológicos quer para definir as próprias Formas no nível inteligível, quer para definir as Formas instanciadas nos objetos sensíveis. Em um primeiro momento, argumento de modo geral que a metafísica platônica, por sua herança socrática e (...) parmenídica, é um método que tanto opera com quanto visa conhecer as Formas. Em um segundo momento, apresento o pano de fundo a partir do qual essa interpretação se torna possível: a metafísica platônica como investigação das condições que tornam possíveis as relações dos seres humanos consigo mesmos, com os demais indivíduos e com o mundo natural e histórico em que vivem. Também defendo que tais condições são apenas pesquisáveis através do diálogo filosófico, como um “espaço” privilegiado onde essas mesmas relações podem ser explicitadas. Em um terceiro momento, apresento um percurso textual para corroborar esta interpretação. Nesta parte, analiso inicialmente o nascimento do método das Formas a partir do elenchos socrático nos diálogos da primeira fase, mas especialmente tomando em atenção o diálogo Mênon. Depois analiso a introdução da noção platônica de filosofia como método hipotético no Fédon. Em seguida, passo a uma análise da apresentação do método dialético em República VI. Depois disso, analiso o método das Formas no Parmênides. Por fim, abordo como este método se configura nos diálogos Sofista e Político. Dentre as conclusões gerais que se pode retirar desta interpretação, acredito que uma das mais importantes é apontar que há uma necessária circularidade epistêmica (manifestada em diversos sentidos) na metafísica platônica como método das Formas. Para tanto, consideramos o modo (...) como o autor de tais questões relaciona as noções de ‘verdade’ e ‘ser’ em Questões sobre a Metafísica II[α] e VI[E], com especial atenção à atribuição de um ‘ente diminuído’ ao conhecimento verdadeiro. O presente artigo objetiva examinar o pensamento de Severino Boécio acerca da aporia dos termos universais e suas respectivas implicações nos séculos V e VI da era cristã. Tais pensamentos são postos por ele em seu Comentário à Isagoge de Porfírio, fazendo ligações com algumas das principais obras que contribuíram para com o assunto. Boécio acaba por aplicar os termos universais à pluralidade das coisas, demonstrando que podemos pensá-los num sentido singular, quando, por exemplo, os percebemos sensivelmente nas coisas individuais (...) do mundo. Destarte, buscaremos explicar brevemente, nas páginas subseqüentes, as premissas propostas por Severino Boécio àquele que foi um dos problemas mais marcantes da filosofia medieval: o problema dos universais. This article aims to examine the thought of Severinus Boethius about the standoff between the universal terms and their implications in the fifth and sixth centuries of the Cristian era. Such thoughts are put by him in his Commentary on Porphyry Isagoge, making connections with some of the major works that contributed towards it. Boethius eventually applies the universal terms to the plurality of things, demonstrating that we can think of them in a unique way, when, for example, we notice substantially the individual things of the world. Thus, we will try to explain briefly, in the subsequent pages, the assumptions proposed by Severinus Boethius to whom was one of the key problems of medieval philosophy: the problem of universals. Este artigo visa descrever sumariamente a forma e os resultados da participação do Grupo Hegel e o Idealismo Especulativo (GHIE) nos VI e VII Leituras da Lógica de Hegel 2022 e 2023 (VI e VII LLH). A motivação de elaborá-lo foi relatar os resultados positivos alcançados, em especial, devido a continuação do novo formato de estudo e pesquisa adotado pelo GHIE, a partir do IV Leituras da Lógica de Hegel 2020 – Homenagem aos 250 anos de nascimento de Hegel: Stuttgart (...) 1770 – 2020 (IV LLH). Tais resultados foram: (1) os próprios seminários apresentados no GHIE, que foram gravados, bem como as apresentações nos VI e VII LLH; (2) os textos do VI LLH, publicados no livro no livro Ser Para Si: Dialética entre Idealidade e Realidade (organizado por A. Bavaresco, J. Tauchen, J. S. Jung; Porto Alegre, Editora Fundação Fênix, 2022), e os textos do VII LLH, publicados nesta revista, do qual este artigo faz parte; (3) a formação (Bildung) dos participantes, em especial, devido ao novo formato; (4) a continuidade de uma nova forma de proceder com os estudos e as pesquisas no GHIE, estabelecida desde sua participação no IV LLH. Aqui os dois últimos itens são destacados, principalmente devido aos resultados obtidos: (1) um profundo e intenso estudo e pesquisa do texto em questão pelos autores das apresentações; (2) a aquisição de mais autonomia e mais maturidade por esses autores; (3) um aprendizado e formação mais profundos dos participantes das apresentações (autores e comentadores); (4) o exercício de se trabalhar com diversas interpretações e buscar certa unidade; e (5) a continuidade pelo GHIE de uma nova forma de estudo e pesquisa, que foi incorporada e passou a influenciar as seguintes, em especial, quanto à participação nos VI e VII LLH. Portanto, estabeleceu-se e consolidou-se uma nova dinâmica, devido a todos essesresultados positivos elencados. (shrink)

Lê Quý Đôn cũng dựa vào các lý luận về tính và nhân tính của Tống Nho để xây dựng quan điểm của mình về tính, tính người, tâm. Tuy nhiên, có điểm đặc biệt trong các quan niệm đó của Lê Quý Đôn: ông ít khi xem xét trực tiếp, hoặc có những phát biểu mang tính thuần tuý (...) lý luận về các vấn đề tính và nhân tính. Chỉ có thể bóc tách các quan điểm về tính và nhân tính của Lê Quý Đôn từ những luận bàn về chính trị, xã hội, v.v. tức là những vấn đề hiện thực và cụ thể. Điều này cho thấy tính thực tiễn trong lập trường của Lê Quý Đôn. Chính bởi lập trường đó, ông đã tránh được các hạn chế viển vông, hư huyễn và khép kín của Tống Nho, để rộng mở tiếp thu các luồng tri thức từ các lập trường khác, và hướng lý luận của mình vào các hoạt động hiện thực. This paper examines the roles of indexicals in explicating speakers’ intentions and constructing common ground in the context of a continuum with two extreme endpoints, the intracultural at one end, and the intercultural at the other, within the framework of the socio-cognitive approach proposed and developed by Kecskes and Kecskes and Zhang. Thirteen participants from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds were recruited to represent varying degrees on the intra- and intercultural continuum. They were divided into three groups: American English speakers, (...) speakers from Asian countries, and a group of speakers, each of whom represents linguistically and culturally different countries. Eight extracts were drawn from the data of up to three hours of recordings, including discussions on one topic, and retrospective interviews retrieving the speakers’ intentions for using deixis. The results reveal that the closer the interlocutors were towards the intercultural communicative context endpoint on the continuum, the more they employed four types of indexicals as common ground construction strategies. Those strategies included the explicit manifestation of intentions, clarification, and confirmation of referent identification in actual situational context, elicitation of information, disambiguation and explanation of similar salient specifics in their home culture in an effort to sustain cooperative communication. This study enhances our understanding of different functions of indexicals in interactions on the intra- and intercultural continuum, which resulted from different levels of context interpretation and common ground. This study investigates the effect of each component of CEO compensation, including cash-based component (salary and bonus), equity-based component (stock grant and stock option), and other perks on disclosure of corporate social responsibility (CSR) information of global firms. The study uses 2SLS IV estimation method and a sample of 580 US-based firms in a seven-year period. The study finds that equity-based remuneration has a significant and positive impact on a firm's CSR disclosure while CEO salary, bonus, and other perquisites have (...) significant detrimental effects on CSR disclosure. The paper indicates that a CEO's motivation for CSR reporting might arise from stock grant and option; meanwhile, salary, bonus and other perks could demotivate the CEO in this regard. Our findings offer insight into designing CEO compensation packages to meet shareholders' interests and stakeholders' expectations for a sustainable business. (shrink)

With the rapid development of biotechnology, the physician is now more able to keep a patient's life going indefinitely on a life support system. The question of whether we should switch off the machine often arises when, according to the medical prognosis, there is no hope of recovery, or in a no-win situation where you are 'damned if you do and damned if you don't'. In a case which seems without hope, the dilemma of whether to prolong a life or (...) let it go disturbs many people, including health professionals as well as the family of the patient. In this painful situation, an ethics consultant who has received intensive training can help the concerned parties to arrive at what may be the best decision. How do Asians, especially those living in countries influenced by Confucian teachings, reach their answers? Three aspects are usually considered: (1) motivation and situation; (2) reasonableness and propriety; and (3) lawfulness and legality. More specifically, three questions are deliberated, as follows. (1) Where an action has already been taken, what motivated it and in what situation? Or, where a decision has still to be made, what should motivate it, and what are the relevant features of the situation? (2) Was the attempted resolution of the dilemma, or is its prospective resolution, reasonable and in accordance with traditional principles of ethical behaviour? (3) Was the action taken lawful, or would the intended action be lawful? This approach to finding an answer has been practised for centuries in Confucian society. But what is legal may not always be reasonable, what is reasonable may not always be compassionate, and what is compassionate may not always be either legal or reasonable. Principles to guide decision-making are therefore called for. This article, written by Michael Cheng-tek Tai in collaboration with Donald Hill, discusses the Confucian method of solving a problem and examines its principal features and how they are applied in ethics consultations. This paper focuses on learning that takes place outside formal classrooms within groups or teams. Based on the conceptual framework of informal learning, adult learning and lifelong learning, it investigates how two contrasting groups of adult learners in Vietnam, Mekong doctors and Hanoi hairdressers, learn, interact, and collaborate through their informal learning experiences in the workplace. These are two ‘co-present groups’ or two ‘complex systems’. For Vietnamese learners, the challenges of Confucian heritage culture, or the lack of awareness of cultural (...) differences, created obstacles to collaboration and participation. The contribution to this Special Issue argues that co-present group learning applies well to non-Western Confucius-based cultures and other countries with similar values, despite this lack of awareness of cultural differences. In contrast to Western science and religion, a topic which has been studied very much since the twentieth century, less research has been done on science and Confucianism. By way of a comparative viewpoint within the history of science, this article will deal with some aspects of science and Confucianism in retrospect, for instance, the Confucian origin of the idea of tian yuan di fang 天圓地方, the natural philosophy of qi, and the wu xing li tian zhi qi 五行沴天之氣 bringing (...) abnormal astrological phenomena and reflecting a negative Confucian relation between politics, ethics, and nature. In the late Ming, Xiong Mingyu found that abnormal astrological phenomena, as atmospheric events, happened in the sublunar region rather than in the stars, and in the present time we can reinterpret the crisis of air pollution or global climate change as reflecting a negative Confucian relation between politics, ethics, and nature and as a warning of collective misbehavior in our use of modern scientific technologies. This research employs the Bayesian network modeling approach, and the Markov chain Monte Carlo technique, to learn about the role of lies and violence in teachings of major religions, using a unique dataset extracted from long-standing Vietnamese folktales. The results indicate that, although lying and violent acts augur negative consequences for those who commit them, their associations with core religious values diverge in the final outcome for the folktale characters. Lying that serves a religious mission of either Confucianism or Taoism (...) (but not Buddhism) brings a positive outcome to a character (βT_and_Lie_O= 2.23; βC_and_Lie_O= 1.47; βT_and_Lie_O= 2.23). A violent act committed to serving Buddhist missions results in a happy ending for the committer (βB_and_Viol_O= 2.55). What is highlighted here is a glaring double standard in the interpretation and practice of the three teachings: the very virtuous outcomes being preached, whether that be compassion and meditation in Buddhism, societal order in Confucianism, or natural harmony in Taoism, appear to accommodate two universal vices—violence in Buddhism and lying in the latter two. These findings contribute to a host of studies aimed at making sense of contradictory human behaviors, adding the role of religious teachings in addition to cognition in belief maintenance and motivated reasoning in discounting counterargument. Children’s early science interest begins well before middle school, and parents can be important in generating and sustaining such interest. This qualitative study addresses how parental occupations shape physical scientists’ early science interest. Our framework uses Social Cognitive Career Theory, and our research question is, “How do parental occupations create learning opportunities for children and motivate them to pursue physical science?” We examine interviews from 17 physical scientists in Project Crossover, a sequential mixed-methods study that broadly examines factors influencing entry (...) into physics and chemistry doctoral programs. Parental occupations can create learning opportunities through role modeling, encouragement, exposure, familiarity, and bonding. Thus, parents can be valuable in creating learning opportunities for children outside classrooms. Study limitations include a small sample and lack of information about familial structure. Our research contributes to the emergent understanding of the role of parental occupations in science interest, which further influences individual career trajectories. (shrink)

According to a familiar reading of Kant, he denies the possibility alleged by the rationalists of our having non-sensible or intellectual intuition. I argue in this article that he simply holds the possibility to be groundless. To put the contrast in terms of a distinction Kant makes in the A-Paralogisms, he raises a “dogmatic” objection to the rationalists in the former case, and a “critical” one in the latter. By analyzing the two-step argument in the B-Deduction, I defend the “critical” (...) reading, which may, I hope, shed light on how Kant can justify his claim – which may be regarded as a second-order, methodological one pivotal to his Critical project – that possible experience serves as the only guideline for proving that we can cognize objects a priori.
