ABSTRACT We are concerned with borders and their crucial importance in people's lives. Throughout we place emphasis on liberatory critique and knowledge and on the importance of the forces lineages exercise in the ways we live. How might we speak of whatever is bordered and allow that of which we speak its manifest differences? How are we able to engage differences and maintain our own differences? How might we, as philosophers, speak philosophically about what is beyond philosophy? Such speaking would (...) constitute an art, a philosophical art, that is guided by unspeakable differences. After developing the concepts of border, in-between, sensibility, and mutations of lineages, we turn to Gloria Anzaldúa's accounts of border awareness and her experiences of it. Through an engagement with her account of nepantla, we offer reflections on the force that “beyond” can have in the happenings of liberatory philosophies. In doing so, we emphasize her conceptions of border arte and her manner of bringing it to expression. In that process we find parts of Alejandro Vallega's work helpful in elaborating radical exteriority, fluid margins, and “ana-chronic” sensibilities. We are engaging a philosophical understanding that gives us bridges that provide thresholds beyond philosophy. (shrink)

Cur beIiefs are too narrow, thus we see, understand, and control small slices of life.Business ethics should be the study of the structure and impact on us of what we call "business science," e.g., accounting, marketing, economics, law, etc., and the corresponding study of the process of what Carl Jung called individuation: learning to become one's own uniqueself in the face of these bodies of professional knowledge which have structured our lives and charted the direction for our sensibilities for too long. We explore themes in Nobel Prize–winning economist James M. Buchanan’s work and apply hisEthics and Economic Progressto problems facing individuals and firms. We focus on Buchanan’s analysis of the individual work ethic, his exhortations to “pay the preacher” of the “institutions of moral-ethical communication,” and his notion of law as “public capital.” We highlight several ways people with other-regarding preferences can contribute to social flourishing and some of the ways those who have “affected to trade for the public good” might (...) want to redirect their efforts. We show how Buchanan’s work has considerable implications for business ethics. Just as his economic analysis of politics changed how we understand government, we think his economic analysis of ethics can (and should) change how we understand business. (shrink)

As forças operam no sentido de estabelecer embates entre oposições e resistências, de modo que, quanto maiores forem as oposições impetradas, maiores as resistências empregadas. A única meta a alcançar é a de pontos sempre mais culminantes de potência, passando pelo enfrentamento do ar cortante das alturas, das caminhadas invernais, do gelo, dos cumes e de toda espécie de sublime maldade. Cada (...) oposição vivida desencadeia uma resposta, que é a de resistência, gerando no organismo um quantum maior de força, tende em vista a sua superação. Assim, de superação em superação, se resiste aos limites que se apresentam em forma de mega acontecimentos a compor os diversos ciclos do retorno. Neste intercambiamento, marcado pela oposição e pela resistência, somente espécimes dotados de ímpeto e disposição fisiológica afirmativa serão capazes de superar, realizando a sua experiência de plenitude alegre e jovial. Estes espécimes, redentores da doença, concebem a filosofia como arte de cura, de modo que a vivência na solidão, para além de fuga da existência, consiste em antídoto promotor da grande saúde.
