The influence of emotion on episodic and autobiographical memory in schizophrenia was investigated. Using an experiential approach, the states of awareness accompanying recollection of pictures from the IAPS and of associated autobiographical memories was recorded. Results show that schizophrenia impairs episodic and autobiographical memories in their critical feature: autonoetic awareness, i.e., the type of awareness experienced when mentally reliving events from one’s past. Schizophrenia was also associated with a reduction of specific autobiographical memories. The impact of stimulus valence on memory (...) performance was moderated by clinical status. Patients with schizophrenia recognized more positive than negative pictures, and recalled more positive than negative autobiographical memories while controls displayed the opposite pattern. A hypothesis in terms of a fundamental executive deficit underlying these impairments is proposed. (shrink)

Après trente ans de suppression, le rétablissement de la sociologie en Chine au début des années 1980 et son développement jusqu’à aujourd’hui offrent un cas critique d’analyse des conditions politiques, sociales et intellectuelles d’existence de la discipline. Comment cette science supprimée, violemment critiquée puis réhabilitée par le régime communiste se reconstruit-elle ? L’article présente le processus de reconstitution de la discipline, en mettant en lumière les formes d’engagement des différentes générations de chercheurs, les ressources qu’ils mobilisent ainsi que les débats (...) qu’ils soulèvent. Il analyse ensuite les productions sociologiques et leurs évolutions à partir de deux perspectives,les transformations de la société chinoise et la question de la modernisation.After being banned for thirty years, sociology has been allowed again in China in the early 80s, and its development to date provides a critical case for the study of the political, social and intellectual conditions essential for the existence of the discipline. How did this science, which was discarded, violently criticized and then rehabilitated by the communist regime manage to reconstruct ? The article first describes the discipline’s reconstitution process, focusing on the commitment patterns of different generations of sociologists, on the resources they mobilize, as well as on the debates they raise. The sociological productions and their evolutions are eventually analysed through two perspectives, the transformations of the Chinese society and the issue of modernization. (shrink)

L’univers de Kafka présente, selon Hannah Arendt, un conflit entre un monde où les hommes obéissent aveuglément à des règles leur paraissant inéluctables et un héros qui s’engage sur une voie divergente. Dans une société dont les lois semblent s’imposer à tous comme si elles provenaient d’une Puissance divine, l’objectif de K. consiste « simplement » à tenter d’obtenir le minimum requis pour l’existence humaine, sans accepter que la satisfaction de cette ambition ne prenne la forme d’un don ou d’un (...) privilège. Sa requête représente, aux yeux d’Arendt, la « bonne volonté ». Elle dévoile le caractère implacable des engrenages qui absorbent les vies humaines, met en évidence les structures cachées de l’organisation sociale et les impasses de l’assimilation. Arendt analyse le sens de cette « bonne volonté » dans un monde régi par des règles iniques et arbitraires, en examinant la marge de manœuvre d’un homme isolé en quête de droits proprement humains. Research on the meanings of self and others’ perceptions, beliefs, values, and attitudes in intracultural and intercultural relations is of significant social relevance. A micro-analysis of its development as a whole process differentiated by the single substrates from an endophilosophical and ontological viewpoint will allow the implementation of a new definition of the self, being, and other according to the principles of dynamics and interculturality. This new sense of defining being will not only produce a good conception of the impact (...) of culture on identity but also depict how the opposite, or pathogenic identity, should be considered, especially in times of existential crisis and change. Healthy or pathogenic patterns themselves organize situations where the basic needs of interaction with space are constructed and the equilibrium of everyone is maintained. Both Confucius and Xúnzǐ take for granted that contempt, in certain situations, is an appropriate and justified response for a person of virtuous character. But Xúnzǐ departs from his predecessor in his insistence on drawing clear boundaries around contempt so as to diminish its destructive and destabilizing potential. This article argues that Xúnzǐ's efforts to circumscribe contempt reflect a shift in the vision of the ritual community from one based on affective ties to one based on an impersonal, universalist state. En s’intéressant aux rythmes et aux temporalités associés à l’utilisation des espaces de coworking, cet article a vocation à rendre compte de la manière dont les coworkers, en majorité indépendants et télétravailleurs salariés à distance, utilisent l’espace pour concilier vie personnelle et vie professionnelle, contraintes professionnelles et aspirations à un mode de vie. Nous montrons que la présence dans les espaces de coworking est fréquemment associée à des transitions et des bifurcations aussi bien professionnelles que résidentielles, mettant en évidence des (...) rationalités qui relèvent du projet de vie. Confrontées à de nouvelles contraintes temporelles et spatiales générées par le statut de télétravailleur ou d’indépendant, ces personnes trouvent dans le coworking une manière de borner spatialement le travail. En offrant un lieu dédié à l’activité professionnelle, en instaurant des rythmes collectifs et en libérant l’espace domestique du travail, les espaces de coworking peuvent alors servir d’outils de régulation des temporalités. Cependant, alors que la littérature sur le coworking a beaucoup insisté sur sa dimension flexible et agile, notre étude met en évidence la permanence de l’importance des cadres spatiaux et sociaux de l’activité dans l’articulation entre rythmes individuels et sociaux. Considered in ordinary set theory, this compactification also enjoys certain convenient weight limitations.Stone–Čech compactification is obtained as a particular case of this construction in those settings in which the class of [0,1]-valued continuous mappings is a set for all L. This will follow by the proof that–also in the point-free context–a compactification that allows for the extension of [0,1]-valued mappings suffices for deriving the full reflection.A constructive proof that the class is a set whenever L is locally compact and L′ is set-presented and regular is also obtained; together with the described compactification, this makes it possible to characterize the class of locales for which Stone–Čech compactification can be defined constructively. On the collection of points of a formal space.

This paper presents several independence results concerning the topos-valid and the intuitionistic predicative theory of locales. In particular, certain consequences of the consistency of a general form of Troelstra's uniformity principle with constructive set theory and type theory are examined.

In intuitionistic generalized predicative systems as constructive set theory, or constructive type theory, two categories have been proposed to play the role of the category of locales: the category FSp of formal spaces, and its full subcategory FSpi of inductively generated formal spaces. Considered in impredicative systems as the intuitionistic set theory IZF, FSp and FSpi are both equivalent to the category of locales. However, in the mentioned predicative systems, FSp fails to be closed under basic constructions such as that (...) of finite products, while FSpi is complete , but does not contain some naturally occurring classes of formal spaces. Moreover, completeness of FSpi only holds under the assumption of strong principles for the existence of inductively defined sets.In this paper, working in the context of constructive set theory, the category ImLoc of imaginary locales is introduced. ImLoc is complete already over weak formulations of constructive set theory, contains FSp and FSpi as full subcategories, and, as FSp and FSpi, is equivalent to the category of locales in IZF.Applications of the concept of imaginary locale to a proof of a point-free version of Tychonoff embedding theorem, and to set-representation theorems, are then presented.
