Die betriebliche Leistungsprogrammplanung legt die Fallklassen, die Patientenzahl pro Fallklasse sowie die Fachabteilungen eines Krankenhauses fest. Der vorliegende Artikel untersucht die Auswirkung unterschiedlicher Zielsysteme auf das Leistungsprogramm. Hierzu wird ein Modell der Linearen Programmierung entwickelt und für Zielfunktionen (z. B. Gewinnmaximierung, Bedarfsdeckung, Gewinnmaximierung unter Nebenbedingungen, Risikominimierung) berechnet. Es zeigt sich, dass ein gewinnmaximales Leistungsprogramm zu einer Selektion von Fallklassen führt, so dass eine umfassende Versorgung nicht mehr gewährleistet ist. Diese Zielfunktion ist folglich nur zulässig, falls ein Versorgungsverbund unter Aufrechterhaltung des (...) Sicherstellungsauftrages existiert. Ethische Erwägungen, wie z. B. die Aufrechterhaltung besonderer Abteilungen (z. B. Neonatalintensiv) unabhängig von ihrer Ertragslage, führen in der Regel zu einer wirtschaftlichen Schlechterstellung des Krankenhauses. Die Risikominimierung führt zu einer Standardtherapie, während eine Patientenorientierung im Rahmen der Individualisierten Therapie das Verlustrisiko erhöht und damit insbesondere für kleinere Krankenhäuser unannehmbar ist. Die Select Society of Edinburgh gehörte zu den renommiertesten Gelehrteninstitutionen im Schottland der Aufklärung. Neben der Persönlichkeitsbildung und Wissensvermittlung im kritischen Diskurs war es Ziel der Sozietät, Reformen auf den Gebieten der kulturellen Bildung und des bisherigen sozialen und ökonomischen Zustandes zu leisten. Am Beispiel der Select Society untersucht Fleßenkämper aus kulturhistorischer Sicht erstmals die Kommunikationsformen und sozialen Netzwerke der schottischen Aufklärer, die zur Verbreitung ihrer Ideen und damit zur Entstehung des Phänomens der ‚Schottischen Aufklärung’ beigetragen haben. Im Zentrum steht (...) die Frage, unter welchen sozialen und kommunikativen Bedingungen die wissenschaftliche Zusammenarbeit in der Sozietät funktionierte, mit deren Hilfe neues Wissen erworben, legitimiert und verbreitet werden konnte. The paper deals with involutive FLe-monoids, that is, commutative residuated, partially-ordered monoids with an involutive negation. Involutive FLe-monoids over lattices are exactly involutive FLe-algebras, the algebraic counterparts of the substructural logic IUL. A cone representation is given for conic involutive FLe-monoids, along with a new construction method, called twin-rotation. Some classes of finite involutive FLe-chains are classified by using the notion of rank of involutive FLe-chains, and a kind of duality is developed between positive and non-positive rank algebras. Pour les enfants issus de familles itinérantes et de voyageurs, le français est une langue-culture seconde, voire étrangère. Devant l’analphabétisme et l’illettrisme de masse, ainsi que le faible taux de scolarisation des EFIV, l’insertion socioculturelle des communautés désignées sous l’appellation administrative de « gens du voyage » est primordiale. Les langues-cultures des « gens du voyage » étant principalement de transmission orale, l’utilisation de gestes manuels et de comptines à gestes comme supports de l’enseignement/apprentissage du français semble particulièrement pertinent. Un (...) autre argument en faveur de l’utilisation de ces supports auprès d’EFIV est que la communication non-verbale fait partie intégrante du langage et qu’elle favoriserait la compréhension et la production langagière, notamment pour l’apprentissage de la prosodie et de la phonologie. Au vu de ces éléments, des comptines à gestes ont été créées afin de permettre l’enseignement/apprentissage de la perception et de la production des phonèmes du français, ainsi que la correspondance entre phonèmes et graphèmes. Ces supports pédagogiques ont été testés au sein de l’association Ballade auprès d’EFIV, et leur impact a été analysé afin de permettre une réévaluation des propositions didactiques. (shrink)

Ce travail de recherche porte sur des erreurs phonétiques dans l’apprentissage d’une langue étrangère, plus particulièrement la production de deux groupes consonantiques /bR/ et /kR/ du français langue étrangère (FLE) par 6 apprenants iraniens au niveau débutant (A1). L’objectif est d’analyser et d’expliquer les écarts de prononciation engendrés par ces deux groupes consonantiques. Pour cela, les productions de 8 mots français par 6 apprenants de première année de la langue française ont été enregistrées et analysées. Les résultats de cette étude (...) montrent que la prononciation de ces groupes consonantiques est erronée et deux éléments causent cette difficulté : les caractéristiques acoustiques des composants du groupe consonantique et la position du groupe dans le mot. Para ello, hemos seguido un itinerario que parte del análisis teórico del canon literario y de la inclusión de lo cultural en FLE para, a continuación, mostrar cómo este ha sido determinante en la enseñanza civilizacional. Todo ello se sustenta a través del estudio concreto de la literatura en torno a (...) la cultura vitivinícola. Constatant que nos étudiants italiens de FLE ont contracté, au cours des années, de mauvaises habitudes de prononciation, souvent dues à un enseignement lacunaire de la connaissance correcte des sons, et que le temps d’enseignement universitaire est réduit d’année en année, notre propos est de chercher à récupérer le temps perdu en insistant, au début de l’année d’un cours de Langue et Traduction française, sur l’oralité. Partant du poème et du jeu sur les signifiants et jonglant avec les signifiés, nous (...) essayerons de motiver les étudiants, peu enclins à la lecture de la poésie et qui, en outre, négligent de se mettre quotidiennement devant un miroir durant quatre ou sept minutes, temps prescrit par les méthodes phonétiques et phonologiques, et nécessaire pour acquérir de nouvelles habitudes phonatoires. Une partie de cet article sera dédiée aux poètes pour montrer comment la force orale du poème peut devenir un atout majeur pour une bonne prononciation ; une autre, à partir d’un vers, sera une sorte de « cahier de création » phonique, sémantique voire poétique. Cet article a pour objet la conception de matériel pédagogique pour l’apprentissage endolingue de la relation entre le passé composé et l’imparfait dans le récit en FLE. Faut-il privilégier le choix d’une visée sur le procès ou bien montrer que la distribution des temps s’effectue à partir d’indices contextuels qu’il faut repérer? La première position a été représentée, par exemple, dans le manuel Libre Échange, mais délaissée par la suite. Notre propre analyse de 17 manuels publiés entre 2006 et 2016 (...) confirme la tendance. On constate en outre qu’il n’y a aucun exemple d’un même procès sous les deux aspects accompli et inaccompli, comme si cette option avait été bannie. Toutefois, l’approche aspectuelle n’est pas tout-à-fait absente : on considère le cas d’un manuel tendant à intégrer présence d’un sujet opérant des choix de visée et emplois normés des temps. Finalement, on propose un matériel qui exploite la syntaxe distincte des énoncés avec l’imparfait et le passé composé. Dans un cadre énactif, on envisage que l’énonciateur prend deux états différents, où il perçoit un présent imaginé, ou bien où il devient « possesseur » d’un accompli. On détaille la conception théorique, décrit des visuels extraits du matériel, et suggère une gestuelle pédagogique pour montrer comment cette approche peut soutenir l’apprentissage des temps du récit. El artículo analiza el método de estudio del alumnado de FLE con el objetivo de conocer: dónde y cómo estudian, qué planificación del trabajo establecen, qué apoyo reciben al estudio, cómo organizan sus apuntes y cómo preparan sus exámenes. Una vez que hayamos analizado los resultados del diagnóstico, daremos consejos al alumnado para enseñarle a estudiar eficazmente y con mayor autonomía. Pondremos en práctica el Aprendizaje Basado en el Pensamiento (ABP) formado por las destrezas de pensamiento, los hábitos de la (...) mente y la metacognición. Finalmente, evaluaremos en qué medida los estudiantes han conseguido ser conscientes del interés del ABP. (shrink)

Depuis l’Approche Communicative et aujourd’hui avec la méthode actionnelle, la littérature a été réhabilitée. Elle fait partie des supports de cours mais reste néanmoins réservée aux niveaux plus avancés du Cadre européen commun de référence pour les langues. Nous montrerons à travers plusieurs exemples qu’au contraire l’apprenant de FLE doit être sensibilisé dès le niveau débutant à la musicalité de la langue française par des textes où les auteurs se sont attachés à en travailler tout particulièrement le rythme, l’intonation, la (...) syllabation et la sonorité. Nous montrerons aussi qu’il faut aller au-delà de la phonématique pure et de la discrimination auditive par paires minimales et traiter de phénomènes que l’on a eu trop tendance à oublier mais qui ont reçu l’attention de certaines nouvelles phonologies qui se sont développées pour le domaine français : le « e » instable, la quantité vocalique, les enchaînements, la diérèse…. Interaction in French as a Foreign Language: From the Concept Itself to Methodological Challenges. Cet article étudie les moyens d’argumentation dans les lettres familières rédigées par les apprenants sinophones du français langue étrangère de niveau B2. Les lettres sont contrastées à celles des francophones et des sinophones natifs représentant un groupe de contrôle. Les résultats montrent certains contrastes entre les groupes des natifs. Quant aux apprenants, on voit qu’ils utilisent en partie les mêmes stratégies argumentatives que les francophones, mais on atteste également des influences de leur langue maternelle dans le choix des procédés persuasifs.

Pourquoi l'humanité dans son ensemble ne s'améliore-t-elle pas? Pourquoi le progrès moral ne suit-il pas le progrès scientifique et technique? Les prisonsŠseront-elles fermées un jour? Toutes ces questions font écho de la réalité du mal dans sa force, dans son cycle interminable : un mal appelle un autre mal. Si nous avons la conscience du mal moral – du mal relatif au bien ou contraire à un bien défini – la conscience du mal, en dehors de toute définition de bien, (...) manquerait cruellement à l'humanité. The majority of research on how learning a second language (L2) has focused on the personal benefits of being bilingual or multilingual. In this paper, we focus on the potential positive effect of actively thinking in L2. Our approach is inspired by recent experimental research suggesting that actively thinking in an L2 leads to improved reasoning and decision-making, which is known as the foreign-language effect (FLE). We examine the possibility that one could selectively engage in L2 thinking in order to (...) reap these potential benefits. Integrating this research with research in positive psychology, we explain how doing so might be understood as a type of “nudge,” or intervention that one could use to increase their chances of making autonomous decisions reflecting their own best interest. Nudges have been associated with improved outcomes with respect to many aspects of our lives - for instance sticking to goals, saving money, exercising more frequently, maintaining a healthy diet. It may be that bilinguals can assume an active role in increasing their happiness or well-being by making better decisions through strategic implementation of L2 in decision-making contexts. We also discuss the ethics of using the FLE as a nudge when it has beneficial consequences, as there are instances when doing so could be beneficial with respect to public policy as well. For instance, it has been shown that people are less averse to sustainable farming and eating practices (e.g. eating insects) when actively thinking in an L2. After reviewing the current research on the FLE, we suggest that further research needs to be done because actively thinking in L2 seems to function beneficially in some circumstances but may pose cognitive disadvantages in others. The Foreign-Language effect (FLe) on morality describes how late bilinguals make different decisions on moral judgements, when presented in either their native or foreign language. However the relevance of this phenomenon to early bilinguals, where a language's “nativeness” is less distinct, is unknown. This study aims to verify the effect of early bilinguals' languages on their moral decisions and examine how language experience may influence these decisions. Eighty-six early English-Chinese bilinguals were asked to perform a moral dilemmas task consisting of (...) personal and impersonal dilemmas, in either English or Mandarin Chinese. Information on language experience factors were also collected from the participants. Findings suggest that early bilinguals do show evidence of a language effect on their moral decisions, which is dependent on how dominant they are in the language. Particularly, the more dominant participants were in their tested language, the larger the difference between their personal and impersonal dilemma response choice. In light of these findings, the study discusses the need to re-examine how we conceptualize the FLe phenomenon and its implications on bilinguals' moral judgement. It also addresses the importance of treating bilingualism as multidimensional, rather than a unitary variable. (shrink)

Foreign Language Enjoyment (FLE), as the most prevalent positive emotion predicting L2 learners' academic performance and well-being, and a critical factor contributing to the creation of positive micro-institutions (e.g., the classrooms), has received remarkable scholarly attention across the globe in the past eight years. Despite the fact that FLE is the most extensively investigated positive emotion and extant research has yielded rich and invaluable findings, it is far from being adequately studied, leaving vast lacunas to be explored. Therefore, this conceptual (...) review article is written to familiarize language education researchers, practitioners, instructors, and learners with the current status of FLE research and its potential applications in L2 education, and suggest potential avenues for future research. To this aim, by making a diachronical and synchronical delineation of extant literature with regard to the conceptualization and theorization of FLE, and the methodology of FLE research, we argue that it is incumbent on researchers to make a new line of enquiry into the actualization of the ascertained affordances of FLE and its transmission in the microsystem of the classroom. Subsequently, by drawing on the broaden-and-build theory and the control-value theory, we highlight the significance of conducting FLE research with theoretical triangulation and methodological diversity to validate the data and minimum bias. Next, while highlighting the critical role of FLE in L2 education, we suggest some pedagogical implications with the hope of enlightening the practice of key stakeholders such as instructors, teacher educators, and teacher recruiters. In the end, the limitations of existing literature are explicated, and avenues for future studies on FLE in L2 education domain are put forward for interested researchers. (shrink)

Foreign Language Enjoyment (FLE) plays a facilitative role in FL learning and its contributing factors have been the object of scholarly attention in the Positive Psychology approach to second language acquisition (SLA). The present study examined the predictive effects of gender and academic discipline on overall FLE and each of its subcomponents in a specific Chinese EFL context. Statistical analyses based on a sample of 1,718 high school students showed that: (1) female students scored significantly higher in overall FLE,FLE-Private, andFLE-Atmospherethan (...) their male counterparts, but no significant difference was found in theirFLE-Teacher; (2) students of Humanities and Social Sciences scored significantly higher in overall FLE,FLE-TeacherandFLE-Atmospherethan students of Natural Science, though no significant difference was identified forFLE-Private. In this article, we discuss a number of challenges with the empirical study of emotion and its relation to moral judgment. We examine a case study involving the moral foreign-language effect, according to which people show an increased utilitarian response tendency in moral dilemmas when using their non-native language. One important proposed explanation for this effect is that using one’s non-native language reduces emotional arousal, and that reduced emotion is responsible for this tendency. We offer reasons to think that there (...) is insufficient evidence for accepting this explanation at present. We argue that there are three themes that constrain our current ability to draw firm empirical conclusions: 1) the frequent use of proxies or partial measures for emotions, 2) the lack of a predictive and generalizable theory of emotion and specific emotion-types, and 3) the obscurity of a baseline level of neutrality with respect to participant emotion. These lessons apply not only to research on the moral foreign-language effect, but to empirical research in moral psychology more generally. (shrink)

Many have argued that moral judgment is driven by one of two types of processes. Rationalists argue that reasoned processes are the source of moral judgments, whereas sentimentalists argue that emotional processes are. We provide evidence that both positions are mistaken; there are multiple mental processes involved in moral judgment, and it is possible to manipulate which process is engaged when considering moral dilemmas by presenting them in a non-native language. The Foreign-Language Effect is the activation of systematic reasoning processes (...) by thinking in a foreign language. We demonstrate that the FLE extends to moral judgment. This indicates that different types of processes can lead to the formation of differing moral judgments. One implication of the FLE is that it raises the possibility that moral judgments can be made more systematic, and that the type of processing used to form them might be relevant to normative and applied ethics. This study employs the Porter hypothesis framework to test the moderating role of production cost in the relationship between resource-efficiency actions and financial performance for German small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). For this purpose, we employ the 2012, 2018, and 2021 Flash Eurobarometer surveys to analyze how consistently SMEs adopt resource-efficiency actions, and the impact of these actions on their performance and costs. We also conduct a generalized method of moments regression analysis (GMM). Among the seven resource-efficiency actions proposed, saving (...) water had a significant positive (negative) influence on financial performance in 2012, 2021, and (2018). Saving energy and using renewable energy had a positive and significant (insignificant) effect on financial performance in 2018, 2021, and (2012). Finally, selling scrap material to other companies had a positive and significant impact in all years. Furthermore, increased production costs negatively moderate the relationship between eco-efficiency action scores and financial performance. The results indicate that the “strong” version of the Porter hypothesis is not supported: It only holds when the implementation of eco-efficiency actions reduces production costs and increases financial performance. Cet article s’inscrit dans la continuité des études sur l’utilisation des corpus oraux comme ressource didactique en français langue étrangère. Il présente les défis sous-jacents à la construction d’un exercice sous format numérique à partir de l’expression polysémique genre à l’oral. L’exercice a été développé dans le cadre du projet de recherche appliquée DiCoi (Digitalisation – Corpus – Interaction), dont le but est de soutenir le développement de la compétence d’interaction orale de jeunes en formation professionnelle de métiers manuels. L’effet (...) des interventions est mesuré à l’aide de feedback, mais aussi de la collecte d’interactions orales libres enregistrées sous format audio. La réception de l’exercice est généralement positive, mais l’analyse du phénomène dans le corpus d’interaction entre allophones révèle la difficulté d’établir un lien clair entre input et output. Néanmoins, une didactisation soigneuse du matériel authentique semble rendre les phénomènes cibles saillants. (shrink)

Front-line employees (FELs) facing double challenges of handling demanding supervisors and irresponsible customers in organizational settings. Performance of service organizations exceedingly reliant on knowledge sharing within organizational employees. FLEs develop the destructive emotions of revenge attitude from abusive supervision and customers’ mistreatment and diminish knowledge sharing. This work aims to determine the effect of abusive supervision (ABS) and customer mistreatment (CMT) on the development of revenge attitude (RVA) and felt obligation (FTO) reduces the knowledge hiding behaviors. Moreover, the FLEs categorical (...) factors of work experience and gender vary the effect of knowledge hiding. Survey data from 201 FLEs police officers. Structural equation modeling partial least square regression (PLS-SEM) SmartPLS 3.1 was utilized to test the model. Study results confirm that ABS and CMT significantly impact the RVA, and FTO reduces the RVA. Moreover, RVA influences the evasive, playing dumb, and rationalized knowledge hiding behaviors, and FTO significantly streamlined the knowledge hiding behaviors. FLEs personal attributes of experience and gender moderates the knowledge hiding behaviour and analysed with PLS multiple group analysis (MGA). The study contributes to the knowledge hiding in service work settings FLEs facing internal and external pressures. Service firms need to train the FLEs to manage the customer with the established working standards and work with the supervisor exceeding expectations. This study adopted a positive psychology perspective to investigate positive emotion and foreign language enjoyment among Chinese as a second language learners in an emergency remote teaching context amid the COVID-19 pandemic. A set of 90 preparatory Chinese language students was assessed for their level of foreign language enjoyment using the Foreign Language Enjoyment Scale. Participles' scores on self-perceived language achievement and actual test scores were adopted as the measurement of their Chinese language proficiency. The results revealed that: CSL learners (...) experienced high level of FL enjoyment in an online learning context, no significant correlation was found between FLE and leaners' actual language achievement nor between FLE and their self-perceived achievement, female learners showed higher FLE than male learners and gender was found to have a significant effect on FLE-Private, participants' geological location, i.e., whether in China or at home countries, significantly influenced their FLE, participants' regional group was not a significant predictor of FLE, and teacher-related variables and learner self-perceptions of achievement were strong predictors of FLE among CSL learners. The findings highlight the importance of teacher's role in an online learning environment and suggest that FLE may not boost performance in the short term for language beginners but is still conducive in the long run. Implications for both teachers and learners, and suggestions for future researches are provided. (shrink)

The period 'from Petrarch to Descartes' is the locus of a non-Anglophone canon for the history of philosophy. Petrarch's invective On his Own Ignorance spared 'scholastics' while assailing 'Aristotelians' and never mentioning the 'humanists' who now star in textbook accounts of the renaissance. Erasmus updated the name-calling in his Antibarbarians, where he promoted the classics and attacked theologians for bad dogma - but not philosophers for bad arguments. Theology was also his target in the Praise of Folly, which Christianized Plato's (...) pagan program of meditation - a regimen that practiced death by isolating the soul from the body. Ignatius and the early Jesuits made meditation methodical and taught it in their schools and colleges - eventually hundreds of them - like La Flèche, where Descartes spent most of his boyhood.
