Homo juridicus: culture as a normative order.Isaak Ismail Dore - 2016 - Durham, North Carolina: Carolina Academic Press.
Homo Juridicus focuses on the normative foundations underlying all socio-cultural formations. The book uses the concept of ''normativity'' in an inclusive sense. It includes law, but it is not limited to it. As such, it explores the various social and cultural forces that persuade, incite, seduce, influence, direct, restrain, repress or control behavior. It is a major interdisciplinary study cutting across several disciplines of social science, such as law, anthropology, sociology, psychology, linguistics and philosophy. Its primary audience is law students, (...)

    (1 other version)Green Logic: Ecopreneurship, Theory, and Ethics.Robert A. Isaak - 1999 - Kumarian Press.
Green Logic seeks to highlight the key questions regarding entrepreneurship and sustainability in terms of motivation, government intervention and ethics. This new book aims to examine how 'Green Logic' works, how it differs from other logics and how green thinking can be targeted in order to create environmentally responsible businesses in an era of rapid change. In short, what does it really take to motivate entrepreneurs to design and start up green businesses? Green Logic is suitable for both business and (...)

A Computational Turn in Policy Process Studies: Coevolving Network Dynamics of Policy Change.Maxime Stauffer, Isaak Mengesha, Konrad Seifert, Igor Krawczuk, Jens Fischer & Giovanna Di Marzo Serugendo - 2022 - Complexity 2022:1-17.
The past three decades of policy process studies have seen the emergence of a clear intellectual lineage with regard to complexity. Implicitly or explicitly, scholars have employed complexity theory to examine the intricate dynamics of collective action in political contexts. However, the methodological counterparts to complexity theory, such as computational methods, are rarely used and, even if they are, they are often detached from established policy process theory. Building on a critical review of the application of complexity theory to policy (...)

Both books published in 1996 explore the role that gender plays in the psychology of art (dealing with both making and viewing), complicating current philosophical distinctions between the aesthetic and the cognitive, and providing new insights into basic topics in the history and psychology of perception, representation, and disinterestedness.

    Precarious maintenance of simple DNA repeats in eukaryotes.Alexander J. Neil, Jane C. Kim & Sergei M. Mirkin - 2017 - Bioessays 39 (9):1700077.
In this review, we discuss how two evolutionarily conserved pathways at the interface of DNA replication and repair, template switching and break-induced replication, lead to the deleterious large-scale expansion of trinucleotide DNA repeats that cause numerous hereditary diseases. We highlight that these pathways, which originated in prokaryotes, may be subsequently hijacked to maintain long DNA microsatellites in eukaryotes. We suggest that the negative mutagenic outcomes of these pathways, exemplified by repeat expansion diseases, are likely outweighed by their positive role in (...)

  35. “The New Acquaintance” by Isaak von Sinclair.Translated by Michael George - 1987 - The Owl of Minerva 19 (1):119-123.
In 1813 Isaak von Sinclair published a poem entitled “The New Acquaintance.” It recounts a meeting between himself, his friend Friedrich Hölderlin, and one other unidentified guest whom Sinclair awaited with keen anticipation. Because of Hölderlin’s well established friendship with Hegel it has been assumed in the past that the unknown acquaintance was in fact Hegel. However, at the time to which the poem refers, Hegel was a relatively obscure and unknown figure with no reputation. If we are therefore (...)

Die Patriotische Gesellschaft in Bern und Isaak Iselins Anteil an der europäischen Geschichtsphilosophie.Margret Genna-Stalder - 2015 - Frankfurt am Main: Peter Lang. Edited by Lars Lambrecht.

The New Ethicist and the Old Bookkeeper: Isaak Dorner, Johann Quenstedt, and Modern Appropriations of Classical Protestantism.Zachary Purvis - 2012 - Journal for the History of Modern Theology/Zeitschrift für Neuere Theologiegeschichte 19 (1):14-33.
This paper examines various nineteenth-century appropriations of classical Protestantism, the age of post-Reformation confessionalization and orthodoxy. I focus on an important source from the 1850s, namely Isaak AugustDorner’s famed essay on the problemof divine immutability. Though Karl Barth and others fixated on Dorner’s constructive arguments for God’s immutability in ethical and not metaphysical or essential terms, the role that Dorner assigned to the seventeenth-century Lutheran scholastic Johann Andreas Quenstedt remains neglected. I contextualize Dorner’s essay and stance toward classical Protestantism (...)

Kabbala und Haskala: Isaak Satanow (1732-1804) zwischen jüdischer Gelehrsamkeit, moderner Physik und Berliner Aufklärung.Elke Morlok - 2021 - Berlin: De Gruyter.

I will first provide a brief outline of Iselin’s main work on the philosophy of history, focusing on these questions: What are the aims of universal history? What function does it have? Subsequently, I will examine the particular concept of humanity that is the subject of Iselin’s history. I argue that the subject of universal history is denoted by a kind of hybrid concept that connects morality qua human nature with humankind understood as the collective of all humans - this (...)

„Verständigung der Protestanten diesseits und jenseits des Oceans“ – Die Korrespondenz zwischen Isaak August Dorner und Charles A. Briggs.Johannes Wischmeyer & Friedrich Wilhelm Graf - 2008 - Journal for the History of Modern Theology/Zeitschrift für Neuere Theologiegeschichte 15 (1):56-118.
This edition of previously unpublished correspondence from the archive of the New York Union Theological Seminary between young Charles Augustus Briggs and his teacher Isaak August Dorner dates from the second half of the 19th century. It offers insight into the transnational idea flow and interconfessional exchange on the understanding of theology. It is supplemented by letters from August Dorner jun. to Charles Briggs and two letters of recommendation that illustrate the density of the enticing web of intellectual relationships.
