Cet article redéfinit la fonction poétique pour un certain nombre d’écrivains francophones et anglophones. Chez Keats, Coleridge ou Baudelaire, la vision se voit rapprocher de l’oralité pour donner lieu à une faculté de « voyance » qui pose la question du dérèglement des sens mais affirme la primauté de l’imagination poétique sur ce dérèglement. Chez Rimbaud et Michaux, la poésie acquiert une fonction nette de connaissance et le dérèglement des sens se voit dépasser au profit d’une définition plus large du (...) poète comme expérimentateur et explorateur. Il en découle que la notion de poète « maudit », associée notamment au dérèglement des sens, peut être envisagée comme une « malédiction » lancée en fait par la communauté parce que les nouveautés de l’écrivain ne peuvent s’exprimer que dans un « mécrire » fondamental. Il s’agit ici d’aborder comparativement Nietzsche et Shakespeare sous le rapport de la « folie ». Après avoir résumé Le Roi Lear, de Shakespeare, l’article s’attache à définir le personnage du Fol (ou bouffon) comme porteur d’une vérité cynique et porteur du thème de l’inversion des valeurs propre au paradigme carnavalesque de la fête (Saturnales antiques), auquel Nietzsche, autant que Shakespeare, a pu puiser. On montre ensuite, dans une perspective foucaldienne, que la folie dans la pièce de Shakespeare garde un (...) caractère d’ambiguïté, la vérité semblant circuler entre les différents types de folie (feinte, oraculaire, poétique) que démontrent les différents personnages de la pièce. On rappelle enfin la cohérence entre le rapport philosophique et le rapport existentiel de Nietzsche à la maladie. La notion d’Amor Fati, qui imprègne également la pièce de Shakespeare, synthétise cette attitude à la fois tragique et dionysienne. (shrink)

Kenneth White, poète et essayiste contemporain, cite beaucoup Deleuze, qui a présidé au jury de sa Thèse d’État en 1979 mais l’a égratigné plus tard dans Mille Plateaux. Cet épisode n’est jamais abordé dans la littérature whitienne. On compare ici le dehors whitien qui est substantialisé, pur monde extérieur, et le dehors deleuzien qui est un dehors auquel s’affronte la pensée. On définit la géo-philosophie deleuzienne (que White a pu trouver inspirée de sa propre géopoétique) comme une philosophie de la (...) terre c’est-à-dire non pas une philosophie de la nature mais une philosophie se passant de toute référence à un transcendantal. On retrace ensuite l’histoire du mot « géopoétique » pour conclure qu’il n’y a que peu de rapports entre les concepts whitiens et deleuziens, sinon une simple proximité de vocabulaire. (shrink)

Comment peut-on interpréter l’effacement du thème de la « démocratisation du sport », progressivement remplacé par celui de l’ « individualisation des choix sportifs », dans les analyses du sport en France, au cours des deux dernières décennies ? L’ambition de cet article est d’apporter des éléments de réponses à cette question. La méthode choisie est la mise en perspective d’études empiriques traitant de ces thèmes. La thèse soutenue est que le sport est tiraillé entre deux processus contradictoires : l’un (...) va dans le sens de la remise en question des inégalités sociales, la démocratisation du sport en étant l’expression la plus explicite ; l’autre réalise et légitime la forme moderne de hiérarchisation sociale, fondée sur le mérite, la compétition sportive et ses mises en scène en étant les réalisations les plus achevées. En mettant l’accent sur l’un ou l’autre, les études sur le sport construisent des représentations différentes, voire opposées, des transformations de la vie sociale. Après avoir esquissé une typologie obtenue en croisant les deux axes précités, l’étude met en perspective les interprétations différenciées du sport contemporain.How has the « democratization of sport » theme been replaced by that of the « individualization of sport choices », in the analysis of sport in France, over the two last decades ? The goal of this article is to throw light on the question by comparing empirical studies on these themes. The author’s thesis is that sport is historically torn between two contradictory processes : one is the calling in question of social inequalities, the democratization of sport being its most abvious expression. The other subtends the modern form of social hierarchization built on merits, sport competition being the embodiment of this. By putting the emphasis on one or the other process, studies on sport create different or opposing representations of the transformations of social life. In this paper, Knetsch's exchange paradigm is analyzed from the perspective of pragmatics and social norms. In this paradigm the participant, at the beginning of the experiment, receives an object from the experimenter and at the end, the same experimenter offers to exchange the received object for an equivalent object. The observed refusal to exchange is called the endowment effect. We argue that this effect comes from an implicature made by the participant about the experimenter's own expectations. The participant perceives (...) the received item as a gift, or as a present, from the experimenter that cannot be exchanged as stipulated by the social norms of western politeness common to both the experimenter and the participant. This implicature, however, should not be produced by participants from Kanak culture for whom the perceived gift of a good will be interpreted as a first act of exchange based on gift and counter-gift. This exchange is a natural, frequent, balanced, and indispensable act for all Kanak social bonds whether private or public. Kanak people also know the French social norms that they apply in their interactions with French people living in New Caledonia. In our experiment, we show that when the exchange paradigm takes place in a French context, with a French experimenter and in French, the Kanak participant is subject to the endowment effect in the same way as a French participant. On the other hand, when the paradigm is carried out in a Kanak context, with a Kanak experimenter and in the vernacular language, or in a Kanak context that approaches the ceremonial of the custom, the endowment effect is no longer observed. The same number of Kanak participants accept or refuse to exchange the endowed item. These results, in addition to providing a new explanation for the endowment effect, highlight the great flexibility of decisions according to social-cultural context. (shrink)

The poor performances of typically developing children younger than 4 in the first-order false-belief task “Maxi and the chocolate” is analyzed from the perspective of conversational pragmatics. An ambiguous question asked by an adult experimenter (perceived as a teacher) can receive different interpretations based on a search for relevance, by which children according to their age attribute different intentions to the questioner, within the limits of their own meta-cognitive knowledge. The adult experimenter tells the child the following story of object-transfer: (...) “Maxi puts his chocolate into the green cupboard before going out to play. In his absence, his mother moves the chocolate from the green cupboard to the blue one.” The child must then predict where Maxi will pick up the chocolate when he returns. To the child, the question from an adult (a knowledgeable person) may seem surprising and can be understood as a question of his own knowledge of the world, rather than on Maxi's mental representations. In our study, without any modification of the initial task, we disambiguate the context of the question by (1) replacing the adult experimenter with a humanoid robot presented as “ignorant” and “slow” but trying to learn and (2) placing the child in the role of a “mentor” (the knowledgeable person). Sixty-two typical children of 3 years-old completed the first-order false belief task “Maxi and the chocolate,” either with a human or with a robot. Results revealed a significantly higher success rate in the robot condition than in the human condition. Thus, young children seem to fail because of the pragmatic difficulty of the first-order task, which causes a difference of interpretation between the young child and the experimenter. (shrink)

A conceptual and mathematical model of a social community behavior in a choice situation under a veil of ignorance, where two alternative policies—Rawlsian maximin and Harsanyian utilitarianism—can be implemented through the aggregation of individual preferences over these two policies, is constructed and investigated. We first incorporate in our conceptual model psychological features such as risk-aversion and prosocial preferences that likely underlie choices of welfare policies. We secondly develop and select the mathematical model presented it by means of an autonomous system (...) of ordinary differential equations. A qualitative analysis of this system global phase-plane behavior shows possible tendencies of community development under social choices over Rawlsian or utilitarian societies depending on psychological parameters such as risk aversion and prosocial preferences. This article defends the conclusion that the soccer World Cup in Qatar should not be boycotted by rich countries from the Global North. This conclusion is underpinned by considerations about the economic background conditions in guest workers’ home countries. Three arguments are considered for the view that the World Cup should be boycotted. It is argued that each of these arguments is unsound. Section 7 contains a discussion of an argument for a boycott that centers on the process through which (...) Qatar was awarded the World Cup. This argument is rejected. The article lists several ways in which guest workers in Qatar are wronged, but this fact about how guest workers are treated does not justify a boycott by rich countries from the Global North. Many European planning schools recently celebrated their 50th anniversary: a sign that planning education became a distinct and established discipline in Europe. Simultaneously, political regimes, paradigms, cultures, and economies continue fueling mixed connotations within the planning sector. Additionally, growing wicked problems in built areas emphasize an even greater need for well-trained planners. These challenges span climate crises, wars, authoritarian regimes, socio-political instability, and constantly changing global geopolitics. The increasingly complex demands on planners are highly pertinent for Young Academics (YA). They (...) require political, regulatory, and technical knowledge to navigate the profession. To support them and represent their voices in planning debates, the YA network (YAN) of AESOP was established in 2003. We, the current Coordination Team, use this paper to voice our take on the question of what planning challenges dominate and what can be done to prepare YAs better for the future. Building on plenty discussions within the YAN, literature, and AESOP’s activities at large, we propose: A challenge compilation for the profession, a list of core capacities, and a framework for future education. This shall aid in enabling YAs and educators today to set the foundation for planning sustainable and people-centered settlements tomorrow. (shrink)
