Durch die Akademieausgabe von Leibniz' Schriften werden nach und nach viele Dokumente allgemein zugänglich, die bisher in der Leibniz-Forschung wenig Berücksichtigung fanden. Dazu gehören insbesondere auch die naturwissenschaftlichen, medizinischen und technischen Schriften, die in der Reihe VIII der Edition präsentiert werden. Ein erster Teilband, der die Jahre 1668 bis 1676 umfasst, wurde 2009 veröffentlicht. Hierin sind auch die Dokumente enthalten, in denen sich Leibniz mit den 1672 erschienenen Experimenta Nova Magdeburgica Otto von Guerickes auseinandersetzt. Da Guerickes Werk nicht nur (...) die berühmten Vakuumexperimente umfasst, sondern sich ausgehend von den Experimenten als großangelegtes Kompendium zur zeitgenössischen Astronomie versteht, werden in dem hier erstmalig in deutscher Übersetzung präsentierten Exzerpt viele seinerzeit aktuelle physikalische Fragen berührt. Die Übersetzung wird ergänzt durch textkritische und inhaltliche Anmerkungen, eine ausführliche Einleitung und den Briefwechsel zwischen Guericke und Leibniz. (shrink)

Excerpt from Die Metaphysik und Ethik des Pseudo-Dionysius Areopagita: Im Systematischen Zusammenhange DargestelBis auf den heutigen Tag ist die sogenannte areopagitische Frage noch nicht gelost, obwohl die Litteratur uber dieselbe bereits eine betrachtliche ist. Die erste Erwahnung der areopagitischen Schriften fand auf einer Zusammenkunft der monophysitischen Severianer und der Katholiker zu Konstantinopel im Jahre 532 statt. Bei dieser Konferenz beriefen sich die ersteren auf dieselben, wahrend die letzteren ihre Echtheit bestritten. Aber der Protest hielt nicht lange an; vielmehr hielt man (...) bis zum funfzehnten Jahrhundert an der Authentie dieser Schriften fest, und sowohl in der romischen wie in der syrischen und giechischen Kirche galten sie fur "wunderbare und fast gottliche Schriften." In the field of educational administration there have been several years of active debate over how America's school systems are run. Contemporary educational administrators have been forced to reflect not only on educational policy and practice, but on the very nature of their position. How does administration contribute to the type of society we have? In what ways does it impede or enhance our cultural ideals and values? "Paradigms and Promises" offers an unorthodox solution by presenting administration as an arena (...) for critical reflection and humanistic action, rather than a more technically-oriented style of management. Foster's critical analysis is premised on an understanding of the relationship of theory to practice, and as he provides alternative theories, he sheds new light on educational administration. Orthodox administrative theory receives heavy criticism in this text. Foster employs progressive critical theory as well as conventional analyses in critical appraisal, and advocates a dialectical concept, through which administrators, teachers and students are encouraged to challenge and question each other - the eventual result being a more responsive, democratically-run system.
