Resumen: Este artículo propone una reflexión acerca de una colección de ukiyo-e del Archivo Central Andrés Bello de la Universidad de Chile. La anchura del problema es extendida en dos constelaciones exploratorias: por una parte, indagar lo controvertible, aparentemente, de interrogar el objeto japonés desde las lógicas disciplinares occidentales, es decir, por medio de la dicotomía Occidente-Oriente. De otra parte, caracterizar cómo esta tensión inicial fue desatendida o invertida, como un paradigma de lo social en el ukiyo-e y, con ello, (...) el principio de asociatividad de las imágenes en el espacio del museo.: This article proposes a reflection about a collection of ukiyo-e from the Archivo Central Andrés Bello of the Universidad Chile. There has never been a greater need for reliable, truthful news to help citizens navigate and assess the veracity of what they are reading and viewing, especially on social media. Widespread concerns around ‘fake’ news demonstrate an enduring requirement for curated and trustworthy children’s news that addresses children as young citizens with certain rights. Drawing on recent UK events, we discuss the case for children’s news provision by public service broadcasting from a communication rights perspective by analyzing the BBC’s 2019 (...) plans to reduce the broadcast presence and originated hours of its flagship news service, Newsround, in favor of online distribution. A juzgar por esta definición que parece importada, el problema de la justicia podría leerse como uno de poco interés para Spinoza. This article analyzes the evolution of Philosophy of Educationin Spain and its situation at the dawn of the 21st century. Spain'speculiar socio-historical circumstances have largely conditioned thedirection this discipline has taken over the last several decades. So,although during a period there was some approximation towards themethods of analytic philosophy, Philosophy of Education has never fullyrelinquished its normative vocation. To do so would have meant spurningthe hopes and fears that had filled Spanish society by the mid 1970supon the reinstatement of civil (...) liberties and democracy. Indeed,attention to the circumstances and that normative orientation have foundtheir best fit in a practical Aristotelian-based philosophy meant toendow Philosophy of Education with a normative character that do notshun the educator's need for reflection, practical decision-making, andresponsibility. Since the 1990s, new directions have been marked by thechallenge of postmodernism, inasmuch as it affects not only thetechnological positivist model but also the reflective educator's modelof a practical Philosophy of Education. The new directions spread out invarious ways, yet they all fall into a common denominator of narrativetrends. The problem posed by these new languages lies in the extent towhich they are consistent with pedagogic intent. In turn, the answerstake on different profiles depending on whether the stance leans moretowards the philosophical or the pedagogical point of view withinPhilosophy of Education. The complementary nature of both perspectivescharacterizes the current state of the field in Spain. (shrink)

Cet article vise à éclaircir quelques aspects de la théorie maimonienne de l’infiniment petit, exposée dans l’ Essai sur la philosophie transcendantale. Partant de la diversité des sens que Maimon confère à cet infiniment petit, nous analyserons les deux manières dont il envisage les éléments différentiels, sans toujours les expliciter. De fait, la manière de considérer ces éléments change selon qu’on se situe dans l’ordre objectif de la pensée pure ou dans l’ordre subjectif, attaché aux formes de l’intuition (autant a (...) priori qu’ a posteriori ), ordres que Maimon distingue dans son Essai. On reconstruira donc la logique sous-jacente à cette distinction, pour analyser ensuite la portée que Maimon veut donner aux différentiels, eu égard à son programme métaphysique « réductionniste », qui prend ces éléments – en tant qu’objet de purs rapports intellectuels – comme fondement de l’ordre subjectif. On montrera, enfin, les problèmes que pose l’intégration, ainsi que le modèle que Maimon met en place pour établir le passage de l’ordre objectif au subjectif. (shrink)

Este artículo busca analizar el concepto deleuziano de potencia, trazando una genealogía que lo asocia con la filosofía de Schelling –inspirado, a su vez, en Spinoza–, con la finalidad de mostrar el modo en que dicho concepto puede funcionar como el medio para pensar la multiplicidad de diferenciaciones e individuaciones del Ser en el contexto de la filosofía de la inmanencia. Para ello, reconstruiremos la presencia de Schelling en el concepto de potencia tal como Deleuze lo desarrolla en sus obras (...) de 1968: _Diferencia y repetición y Spinoza y el problema de la expresión_. A continuación, exponemos las notas principales de ese concepto tal como Schelling lo presenta en las obras mencionadas por Deleuze. Finalmente, desarrollamos comparativamente la especificidad de la potencia deleuziana en su doble aspecto: como potencia ideal e intensiva, para mostrar el modo en el cual ella articula el proceso de individuación en la inmanencia. El presente artículo rastrea los conceptos de “anacronismo” y “memoria” en una serie de autores. Para dar cuenta de estos, primero hacemos una presentación de dichos conceptos en dos autores cuyas obras en gran medida los han tematizado: Walter Benjamin y Reinhart Koselleck. Esto nos permite situar las coordenadas conceptuales en las que la noción de “anacronismo” debe ser entendida. En segundo lugar, analizamos qué papel juegan el anacronismo y la memoria en Baruch Spinoza. Se procede, pues, a la restitución (...) de la dinámica de la memoria en el autor para poder elucidar cómo aparece el anacronismo, fundamentalmente ateniéndonos a las elucidaciones que Spinoza realiza en el Tratado teológico-político y en la Ética. Finalmente, en tercer lugar, se explica la productividad política que el anacronismo y la memoria comportarían, esto es, la capacidad positiva y virtuosa que estos dos conceptos detentarían en relación con el hacer político. The fifteen “Messenger Leaves” poems Whitman assembled as part of the third (1860) edition of Leaves of Grass exhibit a tension between the prophetic and the sacramental that would become more significant as the United States entered the decade of the Civil War. Comprised of poems that provide warnings and admonitions (the prophetic) and poems that offer consolation and healing (the sacramental), in “Messenger Leaves” Whitman uses biblical models and texts to appeal to the religious sensibilities of the American people. Although “Messenger Leaves” as a cluster was dissembled in the 1867 edition of Leaves of Grass, its religious themes draw attention to Whitman’s envisioning of the third edition as the “new Bible.”. Este trabajo tiene por objetivo explorar las relaciones posibles entre historiografía, testimonio y temporalidad. En este sentido, partimos de la hipótesis en torno a que las decisiones epistémicas involucradas en el “uso” de testimonios orales en la historiografía impactan en la organización temporal de la obra de historia. Particularmente, se sostendrá que estas elecciones tienen consecuencias éticas, epistemológicas y políticas, que llevan a lxs historiadorxs a considerar lo testimoniado como perteneciente al pasado o al presente. De esta forma, se han (...) identificado tres perspectivas o modos en que lxs historiadorxs incorporan los testimonios en sus obras historiográficas: el modo “inferencial”, el “mimético” y el “dialógico”. Cada una de estas formas presupone un orden temporal que relaciona de manera diferente al presente con el pasado: o se establece una “ruptura” entre pasado y presente; o pasado y presente “colapsan” o, finalmente, el pasado es considerado “irrevocable”. Como consecuencia, el resultado de las diferentes formas de articulación entre el testimonio, la historiografía y la temporalidad redundaría en diferentes formas de construir al “otro” como testigo a partir de su cualidad temporal. BackgroundThe COVID-19 pandemic has hit almost all countries around the globe, seriously affecting the welfare of populations. Spain is especially hard-hit. In this context, the purpose of the present study is to analyze social, demographic, and economic correlates of mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic in the population residing in Spain.MethodThe sample of this cross-sectional study was comprised of 801 participants aged 18 or older and residing in Spain. Data collection was carried out during March and April 2020. Data of (...) mental health and well-being indicators, and those of a wide number of social, demographic, and economic variables were recorded. Linear regression models were built to value associations between mental health and social, demographic, and economic indicators.ResultsMental health morbidity was higher in women, younger people, individuals with medium studies, people with fewer children, singles, students, and unemployed individuals. Positive affect was higher among women, people with a high level of studies, those not co-living with dependent seniors, the self-employed, the employed, and those working outside home. Negative affect was negatively associated with age and number of children and was higher among women, people with basic studies, singles, individuals co-living with dependent seniors, homemakers, and students.ConclusionThe most vulnerable populations were found to be women, younger people, people with basic or medium studies, students and individuals with no remunerated activities, single populations, and those co-living with dependent seniors as well as those with a reduced number of children. We reconstruct “the classical transformational theory” of Chomsky, and fit it into the structuralist theory of science. We describe both the formal and the empirical features of this classical account, so that one basic hypothesis of this theory – where central notions are used – can be formulated, and in which Chomsky’s “classical” distinction between surface structure and deep structure is clarified. In the empirical claim of this theory are words, sentences and high-structured entities in an inseparable way intertwined. We (...) claim that the formal structure of a natural language is not approximately the same as that of an empirical theory in general. We clarify two special points which affect the structure of the notion of an empirical theory, namely: the delineation of intended applications and the fit between data and models. We hold that the concept of the empirical claim for a linguistic theory should be generalized in comparison with the “standard” structuralist approach. (shrink)

As a contribution to current debates on the ‘social life of methods’, in this article we present an ethnomethodological study of the role of understanding within statistical practice. After reviewing the empirical turn in the methods literature and the challenges to the qualitative-quantitative divide it has given rise to, we argue such case studies are relevant because they enable us to see different ways in which ‘methods’, here quantitative methods, come to have a social life – by embodying and exhibiting (...) understanding they ‘make the social structures of everyday activities observable’ ( Garfinkel, 1967 : 75), thereby putting society on display. Exhibited understandings rest on distinctive lines of practical social and cultural inquiry – ethnographic ‘forays’ into the worlds of the producers and users of statistics – which are central to good statistical work but are not themselves quantitative. In highlighting these non-statistical forms of social and cultural inquiry at work in statistical practice, our case study is an addition to understandings of statistics and usefully points to ways in which studies of the social life of methods might be further developed from here. In this highly original and thought-provoking work the late Miller Mair puts forward his ideas for a new psychology. First published in 1989, he deals with issues of fundamental importance to the future of a psychology guided by genuine enquiry and concern rather than mere professional self-interest. Focusing on ordinary human experience, and moving towards literary and artistic modes of expression, the author invites you to enter in, follow what _you_ think and feel, as he proposes a radical revision of much that is accepted in psychology and in psychotherapy. O presente artigo é um estudo de escolástica barroca colonial que combina elementos lógicos, raciocínios práticos e probabilismo, para compreender o movimento processual das deliberações jurídico-políticas sobre “guerra e paz” no pensamento de Juan de Solorzano Pereira. Pensador escolástico do período barroco ibero-americano que residiu por mais de duas décadas nas Índias ocidentais, que elaborou e sistematizou o Direito Indiano, De Indiarum iure. Corpo sistemático e erudito no qual se encontram compiladas cédulas reais, leis, disposições ou mandatos régios; os quais (...) eram destinados a guiar os assuntos próprios de governo nas Índias ocidentais, fundamentados na guerra justa e na paz republicana. Na Filosofia do Direito Indiano de Solórzano Pereira, a opinião provável sobre fatos e direitos não se restringe aos atos perfeitos e os absolutos que se acreditam ter em opiniões mais prováveis do passado e do presente, porque a probabilidade nessa filosofia do direito está aberta ao futuro condicional, onde novas opiniões podem produzir dúvidas nos fatos e no direito, podendo se tornar em opiniões mais coerentes, seguras e mais prováveis que as anteriores, pela aceitabilidade racional sobre o direito em questão. Erros abrem brechas e podem ser motivos suficientes para modificar direitos por usucapião, retenção, prescrição, restituição. (shrink)
