  1. The Teaching of Reasonableness in Secondary Schools.Raymond Driehuis & Alan Tapper - 2023 - In Marella Ada Mancenido-Bolaños, Caithlyn Alvarez-Abarejo & Leander Penaso Marquez (eds.), The Cultivation of Reasonableness in Education: Community of Philosophical Inquiry. Springer. pp. 119-136.
A central task of schooling is to cultivate reasonableness in students. In this chapter we show how the teaching of reasonableness can be practiced successfully in secondary schools, using materials from the Western Australian curriculum. The discussion proceeds in four stages. We first defend the claim that the teaching of reasonable is a key aim of schooling. Here we offer an account of reasonableness, which we take to be both a skill and a disposition. Students learn reasonableness through the practice (...)

“Anthropological Poverty” Discourse in Africa: A Contribution to Catholic Social Thought on Poverty, Violence, and Justice.Raymond Olúsèsan Aina - 2023 - Journal of Catholic Social Thought 20 (1):73-97.
A more dynamic approach to Catholic social thought that encourages a prophetic discernment can critically challenge the official narrative presented in the Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church, which is widely popular in Africa. This article develops this argument by revisiting three key problems that CST encounters in the African reality: poverty, violence, and justice. Significantly, the postcolonial discourse of “anthropological poverty” serves as both a justification for and a critique of the Compendium. This article highlights how a (...)

In this study, we propose and test a model of the effects of organizational ethical culture and organizational architecture on the perceived unethical behavior of employees towards customers. This study also examines the relationship between organizational ethical culture and moral acceptability judgment, hypothesizing that moral acceptability judgment is an important stage in the ethical decision-making process. Based on a field study in one of the largest financial institutions in Europe, we found that organizational ethical culture was significantly related to the (...)

The role of interferon in the regulation of virus infections by cytotoxic lymphocytes.Raymond M. Welsh, Hyekyung Yang & Jack F. Bukowski - 1988 - Bioessays 8 (1):10-13.
Interferon (IFN) induced during a virus infection mediates antiviral effects both by direct inhibition of virus replication and by influencing the proliferation, differentiation, and chemotaxis of cyto‐toxic lymphocytes which control the infection. Cells from tissue taken from virus‐infected mice are conditioned by IFN to resist lysis by natural killer (NK) cells, while they become increasingly susceptible to lysis by cytotoxic Tlymphocytes (CTL). This is due to marked IFN‐induced biochemical changes, including an up‐regulation of major histocompatibility antigens, which are targets for (...)

Abuse in the name of injustice: mechanisms of moral disengagement.Raymond Loi, Angela J. Xu & Yan Liu - 2015 - Asian Journal of Business Ethics 4 (1):57-72.
Grounded in Bandura’s social cognitive theory of moral thought and action, we develop a conceptual model linking supervisors’ perceptions of organizational injustice and abusive supervision with moral disengagement mechanisms acting as the underlying process. Specifically, we elaborate why and how supervisors’ experiences of each type of injustice would trigger their adoption of distinctive moral disengagement mechanisms, which in turn lead to their abusive supervisory conduct. The present conceptual model sheds new light on linking organizational injustice to abusive supervision from a (...)

Not Thinking Like a Liberal.Raymond Geuss - 2022 - Cambridge, Massachusetts: Harvard University Press.
Raymond Geuss is a critic of liberalism, a politics so pervasive in the West that it goes unnoticed. His attention sharpened by his own unorthodox intellectual journey, Geuss locates what we fail to see in the status quo: its shallowness and futility. Rejecting both authoritarian horror and liberal complacency, Geuss looks to genuinely new ideas.

Understanding Obstacles in Psychiatric Research: An Analysis of the Structure of Mood via Merleau-Ponty.Raymond Cacciatore - 2020 - Eidos. A Journal for Philosophy of Culture 4 (2):39-51.
It is no secret that the methodology within psychiatric research has been challenged to the point of a possible paradigm shift. After decades of failed attempts to determine biological markers for the mental illnesses classified by the Diagnostic Statistical Manual, we are witnessing a radical transformation of the way we think about mental illness. While research seems to be on the right track by migrating from a discrete categorical approach to a dimensional matrix of the neurobiological conditions responsible for cognition, (...)

La manifestation esthétique: essai.Raymond Court - 2014 - Paris: L'Harmattan. Edited by Michel Cornu.

The core entities of computer science include formal languages, spec-ifications, models, programs, implementations, semantic theories, type inference systems, abstract and physical machines. While there are conceptual questions concerning their nature, and in particular ontological ones (Turner 2018), our main focus here will be on the relationships between them. These relationships have an extensional aspect that articulates the propositional connection between the two entities, and an intentional one that fixes the direction of governance. An analysis of these two aspects will drive (...)
