Simondon’s thinking of individuation is not directly concerned with any political application. Yet, through notions such as metastability, associated environment, centrality, or even ethics, the philosopher opens up pathways for a fresh examination of the processes of social transformation and the question of living together. Simondon ’s writings, which complement John Dewey s approach to the public, allow us to understand the political positively, as reflexive experimentation with the transindividuality of shared beings.

During the seventeenth century there were different ways of opposing the new mechanical philosophy and the old Aristotelian philosophy. Remarkably enough, one of this way succeeded in becoming stable beyond the moment of its formulation, one according to which Descartes would be the benchmark by which the works of other natural philosophers of the seventeenth century fall either on the side of the old or the new. I consequently examine the French debate where this representation emerges, a debate that took (...) place along with the development of a Cartesian propaganda in the 1660s and the ensuing official condemnations of the philosophy of Descartes, which was said to constitute a danger for the mystery of Eucharist. But these condemnations pronounced in the name of theology, as numerous and radical as they were, were not considered to be sufficient. They were assisted by numerous polemical works, the audience of which were learned companies of courteous honnêtes gens, and the object of which was to defend a certain way of proceeding in natural philosophy. I consequently concentrate on two correlated questions, the question of what kind of ontological entities are necessary for the establishment of a good physics, and the correlated question of what norms should be adopted in natural philosophy. I show quite systematically that the criticisms of Cartesian philosophers by the Oratorian Jean-Baptiste de La Grange, the bishop Pierre-Daniel Huet, and various Jesuits, Ignace Pardies, Antoine Rochon, Louis Le Valois, Gabriel Daniel, René Rapin, and Honoré Fabri respond to the mockeries of Gérauld de Cordemoy, Jacques Rohault, Louis de La Forge, Bernard Lamy, Nicolas Malebranche or Antoine Arnauld concerning the scholastic entities. Not only do I contrast their philosophical arguments concerning ontological entities and the norms to be respected in physics, but also their ways of defining the philosophical enterprise and its public. The only plausible form of philosophical antirealism deals with practical feasibility rather than with effectivity in principle. The very notion of recognizability is ambiguous, audit has to be considered from a stricter perspective than currently done. The intuitionistic assertability conditions are to be reinforced. This change requires a move towards a frame in which the circumstances of the application of a logical rule can be specified. (...) A partire dalla seconda metà del Novecento la questione della mostruosità è stata oggetto – insieme a quella del prodigio, da cui si differenzia soltanto parzialmente – di un crescente interesse accademico. Gli studi riguardanti la funzione antropologica, cosmologica, estetica e naturalistica dei mostri, sono oramai tanto numerosi e tanto vari nell'approccio da renderne ardua anche solo una parziale enumerazione. Difficilmente potremmo esimerci dal menzionare un autore come Jurgis Baltrušaitis, che così acutamente ha posto il tema della funzione estetica del (...) mostruoso e del deforme, e allo stesso modo non potremmo dimenticare gli ormai classici studi storici e interpretativi di Claude-Claire Kappler, Jean Céard, Jacques Le Goff, Leslie Fiedler o David Williams, la cui scelta di prender parte alla nostra rassegna ci ha sinceramente onorati. Così facendo, tuttavia, trascureremmo lavori davvero pregevoli, come (solo per dirne alcuni) il poderoso tomo prodotto da Lorraine J. Daston e Katharine Park, il prezioso volumetto di José Gil, la ricca raccolta a cura di Charles T. Wolfe, la voluminosa storia della teratologia di Olivier Roux e le profonde riflessioni di Richard Kearney. The chronologic age classically used in demography is often unable to give useful information about which exact stage in development or aging processes has reached an organism. Hence, we propose here to explain in some applications for what reason the chronologic age fails in explaining totally the observed state of an organism, which leads to propose a new notion, the biological age. This biological age is essentially determined by the number of divisions before the Hayflick’s limit the tissue or mitochondrion (...) in a critical organ (in the sense where its loss causes the death of the whole organism) has already used for its development and adult phases. We give a precise definition of the biological age of an organ based on the Hayflick’s limit of its cells and we introduce a desynchronization index (the cell entropy) for some critical tissues or membranes, which are mainly skin, intestinal endothelium, alveoli epithelium and mitochondrial inner membrane. In these actively metabolising interface tissues or membranes, there is a rapid turnover of cells, of their cytoplasmic constituents such as proteins, and of membrane lipids. The boundaries corresponding to these tissues, cells or membranes have vital functions of interface with the environment (protection, homeothermy, nutrition and respiration) and have a rapid turnover (the total cell renewal time is in mice equal to 3 weeks for the skin, 1.5 day for the intestine, 4 months for the alveolae and 11 days for mitochondrial inner membrane) conditioning their biological age. The biological age of a tissue is made of two major components: (1) first, its embryonic age based on the distance (in number of divisions) between the birth date of its first differentiated cell and the time until it reaches its final boundary at the end of its development and (2) second, its adult age whose complement until its death is just the lapse of time made of the sum of remaining cell cycle durations authorized by its Hayflick’s limit. From this definition, we calculate the global biological lifespan of an organism and revisit notions like demographic survival curves, duration and synchrony of cell cycles, living boundaries from proto-cells to organs, and embryonic and adult phases duration. Did Freud present a scientific hypothesis about the unconscious, as he always maintained and as many of his disciples keep repeating? This question has long prompted debates concerning the legitimacy and usefulness of psychoanalysis, and it is of utmost importance to Lacanian analysts, whose main project has been to stress Freud's scientific grounding. Here Jacques Bouveresse, a noted authority on Ludwig Wittgenstein, contributes to the debate by turning to this Austrian-born philosopher and contemporary of Freud for a candid assessment (...) of the early issues surrounding psychoanalysis. Wittgenstein, who himself had delivered a devastating critique of traditional philosophy, sympathetically pondered Freud's claim to have produced a scientific theory in proposing a new model of the human psyche. What Wittgenstein recognized--and what Bouveresse so eloquently stresses for today's reader--is that psychoanalysis does not aim to produce a change limited to the intellect but rather seeks to provoke an authentic change of human attitudes. The beauty behind the theory of the unconscious for Wittgenstein is that it breaks away from scientific, causal explanations to offer new forms of thinking and speaking, or rather, a new mythology. Offering a critical view of all the texts in which Wittgenstein mentions Freud, Bouveresse immerses us in the intellectual climate of Vienna in the early part of the twentieth century. Although we come to see why Wittgenstein did not view psychoanalysis as a science proper, we are nonetheless made to feel the philosopher's sense of wonder and respect for the cultural task Freud took on as he found new ways meaningfully to discuss human concerns. Intertwined in this story of Wittgenstein's grappling with the theory of the unconscious is the story of how he came to question the authority of science and of philosophy itself. While aiming primarily at the clarification of Wittgenstein's opinion of Freud, Bouveresse's book can be read as a challenge to the French psychoanalytic school of Lacan and as a provocative commentary on cultural authority. À travers l’analyse de quatre romans contemporains – que Jésus parle lui-même, se révèle dans la contemplation par autrui ou provoque les interrogations fondamentales autour de (...) sa résurrection –, apparaît l’image de Celui qui toujours se révèle de manière indirecte, dans le questionnement des hommes de bonne volonté. In spite of alleged differences in purpose, descriptive and computational linguistics share many problems, due to the fact that any precise study on language needs some form of knowledge representation. This constraint is mostly apparent when interpretation of sentences takes into account elements of the so-called “context”. The parametrization of context, i.e. the explicit listing of features relevant to some intepretation task, is difficult because it requires flexible formal structures for understanding or simulating inferential behaviour, as well as a large (...) amount of information about conventional structures in the given language. This paper aims at illustrating major difficulties in these two fields, in relation with the necessity of a contextual approach. It offers a (clearly partial) enumeration of open problems inthe reperesentation of commonsense knowledge and languages-dependent structures, with some attempt to delineate future solutions. L’article part d’une constatation inattendue : la pensée naît renversée!... Je veux dire que la pensée naît “renversée” dans la mesure où elle doit se soumettre à d’innombrables idées reçues pour pouvoir accéder à sa propre originalité – et y parvient, en effet, entre l’enfance et l’adolescence. Mais pas toujours, hélas! Le conflit est donc immédiat entre la censure imposée par l’Ordre établi d’une génération, et les penseurs suivants – en fait, actuellement, tous les êtres humains – qui, au nom (...) de la démocratie, opposent sans cesse aux élus ou aux experts une remise en question de l’indiscutabilité de leurs Lois ou Vérités prétendues absolues. En art comme en science, en religion comme en philosophie. Inversement, la soif d’Absolu des rébellions, dès l’adolescence, aboutit, à gauche, à la même “justification” de la Terreur et des totalitarismes, à droite, à la dictature fascisante des soi-disant libéralismes les plus dévastateurs et, dans les deux cas, à la guerre et à la répression “justifiée” au nom de l’Unité de tous ; redoutable paradoxe! (c’est celui de la morale de l’ambiguïté héritée de Robespierre, dont les contradictions encombrent les réseaux sociaux). Ainsi, selon qu’on s’interdit ou que l’on justifie rationnellement d’anéantir l’être ou la pensée des autres, penser fait vivre ou penser tue… Mais il existe encore une perspective épistémologique autre : la modification du monde par l’actualisation de nos connaissances comme réalisation de la pensée. Le retour au jugement de vérité qui est proposé ici entend libérer l'esprit de son enchaînement autistique à un consensus aveugle. On ne guérit de cette possession pragmatique qu'en se pliant à la loi de vérité qui règle l'usage du langage. En effet, la raison critique inhérente à cet usage s'accorde toujours déjà à l'amour de la sagesse : elle se révèle ainsi proprement philosophique.

Comment travailler avec un « couple-limite»? La nature d’une demande étant intimement liée à la nature des défenses utilisées, il suffit d’accompagner cette demande sans la redéfinir. Tout recentrage intempestif exacerbe en effet la résistance transférentielle au dispositif prescrit. Il faut ensuite mettre en cohérence la méthode avec l’objectif contractualisé. Si la demande n’est pas une demande de sens, il faut renoncer à une pratique qui véhicule en elle un projet réintrojectif.

Le temps réel nous afflige, inaugurant traumatiquement le tragique de la perte irréversible de la présence. La philosophie, jusqu'à J. Derrida inclus, en a su quelque chose, mais a occulté ce savoir en remettant dans le sujet, comme intentionnalité et auto-affection, ce qui vient du dehors l'arracher à lui-même. Freud en a su quelque chose, mais a relégué ce savoir dans la sphère des pensées privées, se laissant par ailleurs fasciner par la monstrueuse et merveilleuse atemporalité que lui présentait son (...) objet, l'inconscient. Ce que Lacan a confirmé, l'identifiant à la structure du signifiant. Sa pratique clinique lui a pourtant aussi inspiré, à de rares mais précieux moments, une écoute psychanalytique du temps sur laquelle on a ici mis l'accent. Restait alors à marquer la juste place de la préoccupation ontologique dans un champ psychique commandé d'abord par la pulsion et le narcissisme. Pulsion, narcissisme, souci de l'être et du néant : c'est ce nœud qui fait sens, ce que confortent deux études cliniques : celle de la mise en œuvre du temps continu androgynique chez Wagner, et celle de la philosophie du devenir créateur chez Nietzsche.
